Braised tofu and vegetables (broccoli)

Located in London, Ontario this place comes up with some very positive reviews and with a name like Congee Chan you think it must be an offshoot of the Congee Wongs or Queens. Unfortunately the experience was less than....the quality of the food was a little worse than 'meh'. What was ordered: Sliced fish and beef congee Chicken and pineapple fried rice Braised tofu and vegetables The pineapple bits in the fried rice were almost non existent and when you did find a piece it tasted 'off'. It was also an odd color with the rice slightly undercooked. The congee was way too thick with some less than tender slices of beef and only a few pieces of fish. Only the vegetable dish (tofu and vegetables) was okay. There are alot of options on the menu so maybe some items are better than others? Service was okay. Not sure we would rush back when in the area.

Authentic chinese food. Taste good. Thumb up! What else I need to say? Clean Bathroom, Handsome waiter, Nice Decoration. Stupid yelp needs at least 85 characters.

Shows how many were waiting despite COVID. Same amount as in front are behind the photographer.

Long wait despite calling ahead. Did not feel attended to by staff despite the wait. Felt like they didn't care much about enforcing a head count inside, as there were many people waiting. The food itself was good... adjacent. It was not overly greasy like at some places which was great! However they made mistakes with our order, sending us home with a completely incorrect dish. They even told us they could not remake what we actually ordered, so we just had to deal with it. The flavour was good, though not super flavourful. I found it bland, though my partner really liked it as she finds many locations "over do it". So might be a taste thing. See photos for how busy the inside was despite social distancing "guidelines". Shows how many people in front of me. All waiting on orders. Some sitting. About the same amount of people are in line behind the photographer as well. When folks left the tables they waited at they did not appear to be sanitized.

Standard, well priced Chinese food with large quantities and a good variety. Tonight we tried the crab fried rice, seafood chow mein, eggplant in fish sauce, fried turnips, and seafood tofu. All were just as expected and a generous portion, as we filled up several take out containers after we finished eating. Service was quite slow tonight, but they mentioned being understaffed for the Monday night. I'm a visitor to London but heard that this is one of the better options in the area for Chinese food. It reminds me a lot of the "Congee Queens", "Congee Kings", etc in Toronto.

Congee Chan was an unexpected surprise when I came to Western to visit a friend. Let's just say I was prepared (although unwilling) to be eating a burger for dinner that day. Congee Chan was thankfully referred and I had a [spoiler] great dinner. The restaurant was relatively empty at 5PM in Tuesday but gradually filled up as we ate. My boyfriend got the Singapore noodles with chicken instead of pork. The portions were MASSIVE. I loved how much protein the lot into the dish. Definitely a must try if you're into fried noodles. I got the beef brisket lo mein. I didn't see it on the menu but they said it was do-able. Great portions again with noodles and brisket. They even gave me a big container of hoisin sauce ((when places in Toronto skimp you and charge you more )). Overall this is the go to restaurant for all future Waterloo visits!

Heavy snow today so opted for some warm minced pork congee plus BBQ Duck and Spicy soft shelled crab fried rice. Very nice flavors, awesome portions and very very fast service!

Great food, reasonable prices. Generous portions. What else can we ask for from a food establishment. They hit all the points.

On the way back to the US. We took a stop at the London for overnight and looks for a warm dinner…read moreas it is starting to get cold in the area at the end of September. After reading other reviews online we decided to try this. The concept is simple, they seat you on a table then you scan the QR code to order, then the food will come and you pay the bill online simple. The restaurant is super clean and nice. It has a modern coffee shop vibe. You don't expect to eat authentic Chinese food here. But the food is great. I got beef and chicken skin on a stick, they both are flavorful and got great spicy on it. Then the noodles soup was great with Sour and Spicy base, wish it has more meat. Then the fried bun was crispy on the outside and soft inside. The intestines were little on the blend side. But overall the food was great. London is a great stopping point between Detroit and Toronto, so if you happen to stop by try this place out.

Because it is a hot pot buffet, we chose the Yuanyang pot. When I checked out, I found that the spicy butter soup base costs 10 dollar and the tomato soup base costs 5 dollar, which he didn't say it will cost before. He put the two of us at a table without lights, and the experience was very bad. There are few dishes to choose from. In the end, the price was very expensive, 40 dollar per person. After we reacted with him, the average person was only 2 dollar less. And the waiter told us they doesnt get tip! The tips all belong to the house! unbelievable! its totally illegall their boss did that! I think that why the waiter seems upset and no any good attitude! dont give any tips for them!

London Hakka & Momo House - Appetizer platter: spring rolls, chicken pakora, lollipop chicken, chicken wings

Despite us unable to get a seat, we ordered takeout. The lady helping us was so sweet and considerate, probably apologetic to the fact that both times I have tried coming to dine-in have failed haha. The food took around 40 minutes to finish making and I was absolutely wow'd. First off, the portions are amazing and especially at their price - phenomenal. First thing we ordered were the chicken jhol momos and needless to say that these are the best momos I've had. They were so flavourful and such a good balance between umami, salty, spicy, and a bit of sour. The Hakka house chow mein had all the classic flavours that we know and love. One thing I'll say about this, to be nit picky, is that I wish there were slightly more protein - but no complaints otherwise. The app platter was a great way to try all the popular non veg apps and the lollipop chicken by far was the fan favourite. Juicy, flavourful, tender - it was honestly so good we could eat just that. The Manchurian chicken was also amazing, slightly spicy and super flavourful. Last but not least, the mango lassi was your standard one: sweet and slightly tart. Overall, this place has become one of my new favourite places to get takeout from (and I have leftovers for days!). I definitely would like to sit in and dine one day.

This is a very mom and pop shop, where the owners work in the restaurant and live upstairs. Since there are only two to three people working, the service is VERY slow - so you have been warned! We ordered a fu qi fei pian, mapo tofu, and a beef shank pancake/wrap. The fu qi fei pian was utterly delicious!!! It wasn't overly oily nor spicy, but the perfect balance of spicy, sour, and sweet. The peanuts were delightfully crunchy, and the tripe and beef shank were very well done as well. Definitely our favourite dish. The beef wrap came in a lovely flaky crust... but the entire execution was spoiled by the fact that the wrap came overloaded with excessive hoisin sauce. The beef taste was therefore completely masked, and all I could taste was the sickening sweetness and saltiness of the sauce. What a shame! Finally, the mapo tofu. At first taste, it was very good and tasty. However, you will notice immediately that it is quite salty! Okay to have with rice, but could definitely use some more tofu to balance out the extreme saltiness. The dishes are well done, but a bit too overpowering in flavour. The service is friendly, albeit slow. Still a good find in London!
