We've covered a variety of projects including: Alterations to clothing I already own so that they're comfortable and I actually wear them Making the most comfy pants with huge pockets Setting up a dress form that looks just like me Making a princess cut dress adjusted to my body Analyzing patterns my mother brought back from India She goes above and beyond to make sure I am engaged and motivated to learn and meets me where I am at every step of the process. She has guided me as I set up my sewing space so I can make progress between classes. She has gone fabric and pattern shopping with me so I can learn by doing as we shop in store. She has answered every question with the utmost patience. I have become more confident taking measurements, choosing patterns, installing zippers and buttons, understanding what the bias of a fabric is, and adjusting clothing for MY body (and not some generalized size projected to fit the maximum number of people usually poorly). She even taught me what quality clothing looks like and what kind of techniques are used by manufacturers to cut costs in a way that impacts quality. Jeni is amazing at her craft and also just a genuine person and amazing teacher (like literally one of the dresses she made was for a dance performance and the dress held BLOWN GLASSS as the person DANCED). If you want a quality sewing education, I recommend reaching out to her. It's not easy to find a sewing teacher in Seattle and it is rare to find one who is so invested in your learning or goes to such lengths to keep you on track and accommodates for your learning style. I cannot be more pleased with the progress we've made together and what she has taught me has been invaluable.

I have to give her a huge thank you for thinking about what my needs might be and how she could accommodate them. Her studio is also beautiful and she is a calming and comfortable presence. Gaby (wife): Mary-Jo…read morewas a crucial part of our birth team. From my prenatals, labor and delivery (most especially), and postpartum, she's brought such peace throughout the whole process. Mary-Jo really understood my husband and I and helped guide us towards the priorities for the kind of birth we really wanted to have. During labor and delivery, wow oh wow, I could NOT have done that without her by my side. All of her encouragement, guidance, empowering and calming words, and comforting actions helped me all throughout early and active labor, and especially the transition phase when I was birthing my baby. She was monumental in this whole process and we wouldn't have had the comforting, safe, secure, and peaceful delivery we had if it wasn't for her. My husband and I are immensely glad we chose her as our doula. It's a decision we will always treasure. Thank God you were our doula, Mary-Jo! Mark (husband): Husbands, get Mary-Jo as your doula for your wife, period. If you want to support your wife 100% emotionally, physically, spiritually, get a doula and make sure to get Mary-Jo. Yes, be there for your wife and serve her with all that you can throughout the pregnancy, labor and delivery, and postpartum. But honestly though, us dudes can only support our wives so much. In my experience, there's a certain point where you've done all that you can, but your wife just needs another woman's support that you just can't provide as a man. That's where Mary-Jo steps in; she'll provide that holistic support for your wife that only a doula can bring. My wife and I had a traumatic experience in our first pregnancy when we tried to do it all on our own without a doula. Now with our second child, we had Mary-Jo and she made a world of a difference bringing such peaceful guidance and security for my wife and I. Bottom line, get Mary-Jo, you and your wife will be so grateful you did. Trust me.

Not only was Mary-Jo so supportive of our choice, she was well educated on free birth and provided us with support and encouragement throughout the end of my pregnancy and offered us so many great resources of information! Mary-Jo was such a light in the stressful last weeks of my pregnancy and offered me so much encouragement. We had a dream free birth at home and couldn't have done it without her support!

We had an incredible experience with Wellspring Midwifery. I had recently had a missed miscarriage…read morewhen I came into their care with my second pregnancy. The midwifery clinic I was previously with for the first pregnancy , told me I could no longer work with them and did not give a reason. Valley medical midwives said they would not work with me because I am overweight and of advanced maternal age. The other midwives clinics in the area said they were full for my due date. Swedish midwives did not take my insurance. When I went to the obgyn, she made me feel like I was wasting her time and I felt rushed during a very tender time. I felt discouraged and decided to widen how far I was willing to travel for care. I reached out to Wellspring Midwifery, and they promptly set up a zoom call where I asked tons of questions, we discussed our experience and they shared info about their practice. I felt so relieved to find them during such a hard time, filled with fear and anxiety. Our first appointment was over an hour and Lizz made me feel so comfortable and heard. It was amazing, they even did Saturday appointments so we didn't have to miss work and the traffic was much better. I met Elliot a few appointments later and she was equally awesome to Lizz! Throughout the process, I had monthly appointments and additionally was able to call for questions or write them in the online portal and they would promptly respond. Later in my pregnancy, we made the informed decision that we would prefer to transfer my care to a hospital so that I could access an epidural during labor and knowing which hospital we were going to. Lizz and Elliot were supportive of this decision and helped with the transition of paperwork. They allowed me to stay on for postpartum care. I even called them during my labor when I was trying to make a decision. It was awesome to have the support of their postpartum care because my obgyn only scheduled me for 1 appointment at 8 weeks postpartum. Lizz and La-Kiesha (their midwifery student who joined many of my appointments) came into my home 2 days after my baby was born and did a visit where we talked about the baby, my husband and myself and did some checks on the baby and me. They also gave me breastfeeding support. I had multiple follow ups in office during the first 6 weeks postpartum. It was so helpful to get regular support throughout that period of time. I am forever grateful for my experience with Wellspring Midwifery and I highly recommend them for your prenatal and postpartum care.

You're not just "another patient" - this is a safe space to build a relationship with people that will be present for one of the most vulnerable and sacred experiences of your life. They were professional, yet personable. Kind, patient, and just incredible humans. I really admire them and the crucial work they do to help empower women with knowledge and confidence in their ability to birth. I worked closely with one of the student midwives, and she was wonderful too. No doubt you will be in good hands in their care. Can't recommend Wellspring Midwifery highly enough!!
