A condor, AND a dinosaur?! Mural Magic

New favorite place! I'm a huge fan of Little Doms in Carpinteria, so I was excited to hear that the chef was involved here. First of all, this hotel restoration back to its original glory is perfection!! I can't say enough. It gave me Mary Jane Colter vibes, or New Cuyama Buckhorn vibes. I love the updated Americana. As for the food, we started with shrimp cocktail that was an elevated version of what you get at the border crossing. The veggies were fresh, the sauce pungent, and the shrimp succulent. Secondly, we had the melon and tomato salad with chicatana ants. I was bummed that the ants didn't impart any lemon flavor like the culinary ants I've cooked with in the past. You can leave them off if you're not into bugs, and you wouldn't notice the difference. The delicious melon and the farm-fresh tomatoes are the stars here. Lastly, we had crispy sea bass with esquites, and OMG! The sweet corn was so sweet. Everything was cooked to perfection. Creamy, delicious with a hint of crab. I can't wait to come back and try more. The margarita is solid, and we finished the night with an old fashioned in the lobby bar. That's a must-visit as well. 10 out of 10 we'll be back.

Fish taco. I put the fork next to it so you can see how small it is.

Typical hotel restaurant with inflated prices for mediocre food. The guac was fine nothing special. I got the fish taco for $13 (only one taco and doesn't come with any sides) and was super disappointed. The fish was so small and crunchy...not the word to describe a fish taco. Also tasted fishy and I almost think it gave me food poisoning bc I had the runs all the next morning! My friend got the sweet potato taco and said it was their attempt to put something vegan on the menu but wasn't very good. She did say the beef cheeks were good. You can come for the ambiance and drinks but don't really recommend the food.

This was our first visit to the Condor Bar restaurant. (We made our reservation on Resy.). The dining room and bar decor and ambience are great; lots of interesting details. The service is excellent as well. The hostess made us feel quite welcome and was able to seat us at a booth by the bar (we simply prefer a booth). Now on to the food and drinks, the house margarita was very good; made with fruit juices not a sour mix. The house made guacamole was delicious! It came with 3 tostadas, but when our server saw that we had finished those and still had some guacamole left, he brought us 2 more (that was really nice). I really like duck so I could not resist ordering the duck legs confit carnitas. They were cooked to perfection and served with some warm corn tortillas; delicious! Although it would have been nice if they were served with a side of black beans. My wife ordered the oyster mushrooms with the mole verde sauce. The oyster mushrooms were good, but the green sauce was not what either of us expected; not really a flavor profile that we enjoyed (live and learn). It would be great if they offered a few more house craft cocktails and a few more entrees such as upscale tacos and enchiladas made with lobster, shrimp, king crab, wild salmon, swordfish, etc. So, as Ojai locals, we will definitely be back! If the menu is the same, we will order the guacamole (and ask for 4 tostadas) and the tempura fried fish tacos. FYI, the duck legs confit meat would make great tacos! I commend the owners to bringing a new dining experience to Ojai!

Frankly, I thought it was probably just another taco place and wasn't expecting much... but BOY was I wrong! One pork and one chicken soft taco and they both knocked my socks off. I'm not even a chicken taco fan, but that one was mind blowing good! The owner whose name I won't even attempt to spell because I would just butcher it, was very kind. He only takes cash, but I didn't notice the sign. I was a dollar short and he took care of me anyway. Trust me though, his tacos are worth more than he charges and worth every penny! Definitely give him a try! You won't be sorry! TWO HUMBS UP!

The tacos were packed with protein, honestly a much better meat-to-filling ratio compared to the quesadilla. We didn't try the burritos this time, but maybe we'll give one a try on our next visit...maybe. It's mainly a lunch stop and takeout only, so plan to grab your food and head to a nearby park or shady corner to enjoy it. It is cash only, though there's an ATM inside, and you'll find assorted drinks, juices, and refreshing aguas frescas to go with your meal. The line can get long, so arrive early and bring your patience. They can sell out too, so plan accordingly. Overall, it's a low-key spot with authentic flavors and reasonable prices. If you don't mind waiting a bit, it's worth trying for an early lunch since there are plenty of other great restaurants in the area.

It was a bit warm to sit outside (80°F) and the wait for outdoor was 30 min so we opt to sit inside. We still had a nice view of the golf course and the rolling hills behind the golf course. Our total bill with tip was $50. I got the buffalo chicken sandwich that was delicious, juicy but also really messy. And my friend got the Bistro Burger. We spit out sandwich/burger in half with one another to try both. Although I liked my Buffalo chicken, I think I preferred the burger. We also both upgraded to truffle fries.

We kept our orders simple, and surprisingly, the food came out extremely fast... before the coffee even arrived. Overall though, the food was good. I had the avocado toast, which was really tasty, and everyone in the group seemed to enjoy what they ordered. The real standout here is the setting, the golf course and surrounding grounds are absolutely beautiful and make for a really nice atmosphere. Overall, a solid spot for smaller groups or a casual outing, but larger parties might be a bit of a challenge for them.

I am definitely surprised by the lower reviews as our experience on a Sunday evening was pretty stellar and hopefully the reviews continue to be more positive if the restaurant and staff are making adjustments to the feedback. We stumbled in on a Sunday evening after wine tasting. We truthfully wanted round two of drinks and a clean bathroom lol. I had heard about this spot in the past and their curb appeal drew us in. Love their signage, the name/logo on the front wall, and once we walked in the bar seemed very cute and inviting. Probably what would have been an initial red flag was that it was dead inside but we just wanted to sit and enjoy a cocktail. The outdoor patio seemed cute and did have like three tables full. We looked over the menu and were actually very impressed. They have an extensive cocktail menu with fun looking drinks and ingredients. The food menu looked pretty appetizing to me if I'm being honest. Based off of the menu alone I'd come back. Happy hour during her weekdays seems legit too. My group only ordered cocktails but the drinks were pretty and a generous pour! Three of us ordered the prickly pear margaritas and we loved the tall glass they came in. We really loved how the female bartender whipped our drinks up super quickly. My other friend got a Smokey cocktail and we all agreed we really liked our drinks. Had we not already been drinking all afternoon I would have definitely ordered another cocktail. The staff were actually very nice and sweet (going against other reviews). The bartender again was really quick with the drinks and made them very tasty. The waitress who checked up on us was darling. Me and my girlfriends were deep in conversation and I appreciated how she would check in on us but also was mindful to not seem interruptive. She also gave us recommendations on what food is popular and to order next time. While I only experienced the bar area I was very pleased with our visit. Drinks were good, the decor cute, and nice staff. Hoping more people will give them a try as we really liked this spot. Clean single bathroom too in the back which was helpful as we all needed a pit stop and refresh. Definitely keeping this spot in mind next time I'm in Ojai and needing a margarita.

We were with a party of four; however, the two of us had the Pesto Chicken Pizza, which was yummy; however, quite a bit of the bottom/crust was a bit overly burnt -- otherwise, quite yummy. We also had the Fried Chicken Sammy with a Vegan Cesar salad. The chicken sammy was great with some bacon jam and onion. I was given a salad on the side; however, it was not at all a Cesar salad -- so I'm not sure what it was (I couldn't replicate it on the menu) Overall, a good experience; however, it just seemed that the order may have been rushed a bit creating a few too many mistakes. I would still return though.
