The public bus arrives every (2) minutes and are often full. It is approximately .50 US to go 30 miles downtown. Just looking at the creative ideas a child could write a book . "This ain't Tijuana". The malls and beaches are protected by federal soldiers and the streets have checkpoints every mile. They obtain your information and destination. If something is off a militia is on alert. In NOLA people go missing all the time. They get discovered weeks later. Would never happen in Mexico . A drunk guy might get out the box, but it is very controlled. These citizens are: smart, efficient, implemented, hard working, drive excellent, fast, diligent, and gracious. It's like walking through a museum. Being from a popular tourist town known for food, this place is VERY advanced. Instead of lounging and hiding these citizens WORK to pass the time. If you need anything just ask a bartender. We visited there one evening and have the best time and service! This isn't the same restaurant where you go to breakfast but at night is a Spanish tapas restaurant. Everything was fantastic but all the food on the property is really great! We especially loved to order lunch by the pool. All the cocktails are fantastic, even poolside! Rooms are standard JW with some of them recently updated with the others on their way to being updated. Yes, there is a sort of a musty smell in the air, but that's in most hotels. It's a very hard to keep those highly humid rooms from smelling a little musty. You just have to get over it and enjoy the time outside the room. Pools are super cute and the beach area is nice. There is an adult pool that is open during the day but wish it was open later! Lots of places in walking distance if you decide to venture out of the property but why would you need to! Easy drive from the airport and to the downtown or for departure to Isla Mujeres. The Fun Team was absolutely AMAZING! Oscar was our FlowRider instructor and was fantastic! We had so much fun that we went back multiple times. He was encouraging, patient, and made the experience so much fun. Guillermo was awesome with the pool exercises and brought such great energy to the activities. Claudia and Anna Banana were also incredible and helped make the activities so much fun. They brought personality, energy, and so many laughs to our days. Let's go with the bedding linens and towels. The bed was super hard, it actually worked for me because I had slept wrong and the hard bed put me back in shape by our first night there. So for me, I didn't mind the rock hard bed. For my big baby, it did. We also got a double bed room because it was the room that was ready when we got there, we were sleeping together anyway so we took it. The beds were not two queens they were full beds. Luckily I like to lay super close to my partner so this worked for us too but patrons should know it's a super small bed if you're a bigger couple wait for the king room. We are both smaller so we didn't mind. The sheets were also super stiff. It gave hospital bed vibes. Definitely not a high thread count. My big baby made a joke that the beach towels were softer than the restroom towels and that was true. Not sure what kind of towels we got but they were not soft. The restroom was also average size but the shower was small! I couldn't even get in the shower with my partner that is how small it was. So if you're a couple who showers with your partner, like us, not happening here! The Westin had some really amazing nice workers who were awesome! The issue wasn't them at all, it was the property. It's older, run down, and in need of an upgrade. The other reviews are true, this is far from the action but I like to travel during Sept-Dec because it's less people, so for me this worked; it was an easy uber ride to the main area by the mall. Overall, this place is okay, not 5 star by any means. I don't complain so I had a wonderful time on my first getaway with my big baby and enjoyed his company. It did feel like we had a private beach and also felt like we had the entire resort to ourselves. So that was a plus traveling during this time, October. Would I come back? We love the atmosphere there and always have a great time. The food presentation and quality has increased. There seems to be a lot of new staff working there including Captains at the buffet restaurants and Cafe. The cafe has added Bloody Mary's and Mimosas to their menu which is amazing, plus they have added a variety of fresh fruit on bar. I love fresh fruit so that made my day. The new Asian Restaurant was delicous. The opening of the Deli/Coffee shop was a great addition. We would go there every morning an sit at the Vista lounge where it is a quiet atmosphere with a beautiful view. The opening of the MVP/Speakeasy bar was great as well. The late night DJ and dancing was definitely a hit. Adding lounge chairs in the pool was a much needed. You get to cool off, get sun and relax. The addition of Yzrael, the Coach was the best idea. He is so personable and energetic with the activities that he does with us. He is a great motivator for those of us who would like to burn some of thee calories that we take in while on vacation. (water exercises, yoga, Pilates and gym time) The Color Parties were fun! Sulieca, pool activities person was the sweetest person ever. She always remembered our names, would interact with the guests even when she wasnt doing an activity with us. She always has a smile on her face. She was able to transform from activities to dancing at the color parties, special occasions like Deli party, and act in the videos that bring more people to the resort. What an asset she is to your Team. Mayra, our pool bar waitress was very attentive to the guests. She busted her butt daily making sure guests never went thirsty. She also remembered our names and what drink we wanted. Our last day, she was in the Deli/Coffee shop. Her talents and pesronality, in my opinion, would be better utilized if she is at the pool serving a lot of people where she can interact. We had several new Bartenders this trip. David was brand new and he was amazing. Alexander was at the Vista Bar the night we met him. He was very accommodating to us. He experimented with drinks that a guest requested. He even made us a Mexican coffee as he was closing the bar at 11pm. The Nightly entertainment in the theatre was magnificent. They are very talented group of people. The Gala was spectacular with amazing food. We would like to see the Asian restaurant open more days a week. We would like to have gone to it 2x during our stay but it was not open daily. We would like to see the coffee shop/Deli and Vista Lounge utilized a little more. Some guest didnt even know they existed. As for the Deli/coffee bar, it was open 6am-3am. Any way in the evenings, they can do the Flaming Coffee there. We go to GR Solaris at 5 to get the flaming coffee but would rather have it as a dessert/nightcap than something before dinner. The Vista Bar is ther as well as the speak easy. This would be a HIT!!! Also, there was lack of communication when activities were scheduled and canceled or not known about at all was a lil disappointing. We never knew when The Vista Lounge/bar was open. The app says one thing, the paperwork from check in said another. The App also said the was a activity at sunset on several days but it was not there when we went to it. After returning home, I saw a video of a party at sunset at the lounge. I hate that we missed that. It would be great if the Vista lounge bar area would become the Premier bar opened nightly until the MVP bar opens up. This will allow people to stay at the Caribe and not go to Royal. In turn, people may utilize the deli more. Dont feel like the administration is communicating well with line staff at times. POOL When we got to the pool, there were a lot of loungers w rolled up towels on them that had been "saved" for guests. Several days, those seats remained empty until after lunch or beyond. Can there be a policy in place to minimize the time allowed to save a seat? The Color Parties are a nice addition but the only complaint that heard was that the music was TOO LOUD! Some people that go to adults only want the Quieter atmosphere but also enjoyed the entertainment to break that up. The water level of the pool was great for water exercises for most of our trip. When water was added to pool, people of shorter stature were unable to be in the water. They had to exercise on the stairs which was not safe for them. I understood during our stay that the Solaris is under new management. It would benefit those of us who don't know the hotel industry, if there were pictures of people and their titles. Because of my friend's membership level, I stayed in the Club Solaris members area, but honestly, the great service is consistent throughout the resort. The staff remembers guests by name, and I saw many returning members warmly hugging the employees they've known from past visits. You can feel the genuine care and connection. The rooms are a great size, each with a coffee maker and refrigerator. I had a room to myself, and it was perfect. As a member, they personally walk you through daily activities, help make dinner reservations, and even arrange excursions for you. If you're not a member, the concierge and guest services office are always available to assist. A special mention goes to Omar in the members' office -- he's wonderful. Breakfast I started each morning with breakfast in the members' area, which offered a fantastic assortment of food. My personal favorites were the made-to-order omelets and the fresh, sushi-style salmon and ahi tuna. Coffee and mimosas flowed freely, and smoothies were available upon request. The cabanas on the beach are my FAVORITE, but they also have them by the immaculately kept pool. The distance to the northern hotel zone (with all of the partying, flea market, etc.) is only about a 20 minute taxi or uber ride. And the BEST part about it: they are very into the turtle conservation movement. Security is trained to handle and protect the baby turtles during the conservation season. I am so thankful for all of the turtles that they catch and release. It greatly helps the turtle population. Now for the sole reason I will never be back: Overzealous security guards Rather than feeling safe, I felt targeted. I took all of the proper precautions with my Airbnb host (confirming QR codes and check in times, etc.) and still, security treated us like criminals when we arrived. They actually boxed my husband into his vehicle and wouldn't let him out because the information about our trip had not been properly communicated by the Airbnb manager. Many of these units are rentals, so there must be a better process for this. The gaps in communication make me feel less safe and instead, more targeted. I was here for nine days total, spending more than $1K USD, and still got treated this way. This is in addition to money I spent at the restaurant each day. For breakfast, Siete offers a decent buffet, and our waiter, Helvert, was incredibly kind and always took the time to chat with us. For dinner, DB was our top choice for elegant continental dining, complete with a live pianist. The manager, Susana, provided excellent service, the food was delicious, and the chef even came out to greet us. We also loved Hidden Gardens, a relaxed Asian-fusion spot with tasty food, impeccable service, and another welcome visit from the chef. During the sweltering day, the pool is the main draw. Lalo was always helpful in securing our requested cabana. They cost an extra $115 each time, but they are completely worth it to escape the intense sun. Our pool waitress, Marysol, befriended us and knew exactly what non-alcoholic drinks to bring us. We also had a problem with one of my other daughters, not getting picked up at the airport for over an hour. Also family members wanted to play pickle ball and because they weren't 18 or older, half of our group were not able to play.
