I've been a member for about 12 years because it came through a job I had. The no-ATM-fees…read more(anywhere, ever) is the best thing about this place. I can't speak to loans as I never took one from here. But the online/app/distant ATM experience has been increasingly frustrating for the last year or two. "Upgrade" should always be used in quotation marks no matter the business, but the bugs are ridiculous and this time around there's been no response to two requests to fix things. I no longer live in MA, but for the first year or so in my new neighborhood (and all over the country and the world), ATMs worked fine. Then in summer 2019, they (literally) overnight started rejecting transactions. The explanation was that the machines (not supported by Metro) didn't have the right security features, but they had the day before, so...? And this latest upgrade is so far not horrible, but at least two regular monthly transactions have changed or been dropped and I'm guessing my emails are waiting in a queue somewhere. Not worth it anymore.

I had a small mortgage with them. $30,000. My interest rate was only 2.75%. During the term of the…read moremortgage FEMA determined (in error) my home was in a flood zone. Metro contacted me and told me I needed flood insurance. I purchased $70,000 in flood insurance. I got a letter from them that they accepted my insurance at the amount I purchased. Banking rules and FEMA rules both state that financial institutions cannot make you purchase more insurance than you could owe them. A year later Metro contacted me and told me I needed to purchase $500,000 in flood insurance. I sent them copies of the banking rules. They didn't care. I asked to speak to the underwriters that made this change. They refused to let me speak to anyone with authority over this unfair business practice. While I was trying to work with them they purchased the $500,000 policy at my expense. I had no choice but to refinance with another credit union who confirmed there was no need to purchase more than I owed them. I believe Metro intentionally forced me out because mortgage rates had risen to 7% and they weren't making enough profit on me. Unfair business practices against banking rules. I was with them for over 10 years. Beware of this institution, they are crooks. I'd rate them -10 if I could.

Worst bank ever. I closed my account with the pay off car loan amount they gave me over the phone,…read morebut they kept on billing me. I called them many times and stayed on hold many times and decided just to pay the small amount they wanted. It wasn't worth my time and effort. Then, I get another bill! This time, I called and stayed on the phone until it was settled (for two hours for $5.00!?). They finally fixed it. I then wait to receive the car title FOR OVER A YEAR. I finally, call about that, and it never went out to me - computer glitch, they say. OMG.

Can you say that you LOVE your bank? I can…read more A long time ago I used to do my banking with a big bank. Well I got so tired of being fee'd to death that I moved to a small local bank (Not Metro). I told myself that if this small local bank was bought out, I'd leave. So low and behold, last year this local bank was bought out. Considering that I opened the account with that local bank when I lived in the South End, so going to that local bank was easy. So it makes sense now, since I live in Chelsea, to open an account with another small bank. I looked at the handful of local banks that were in Chelsea, but I kept coming back to Metro because they met and exceeded my requirements for services I require. (I'm a heavy EFT and online banking user, so if a bank's online banking blows, I probably won't take that bank into consideration. Online Banking is everything to me.) So I chose Metro Credit Union as my next bank. On a Saturday morning I walked into this location to open my account. I was directed to the customer service desk where a young lady (who's name I don't remember) helped me setup my account. She took my license, and proof of address and income and copied them all. Then she sat at the computer and entered in all my information to the new account. We hit a few snags in setting up the account, but no show stoppers (their computer system wouldn't take my email because it's too short!). She goes over everything with me... fee schedule, interest rates, how to use online banking.. a very complete intro about Metro. At the end she hands me my starter checks and said the ATM card will arrive in the mail in a few days. Fine. A week goes by and I still don't have my debit card yet. So I call the bank and someone (a guy) answered and looked up to see where it was. He said, it should be there any day now. (This was on Friday) The following Monday I get a call from that girl at Metro who helped me setup my account, stating she needed a copy of my drivers licence. And because my account setup is not complete, a debit card will not be made and sent. Well I asked her what happened to the one she made when I was there a week ago? She claims 'no idea, it's probably lost'. So I fax her over my drivers license. And that was that. A few days later, I got my ATM Card. So I thought everything was fine. However, I still hadn't received my checks yet. (and yes I need them, I'm probably the last person on earth who still writes checks). BUT those can take 2-3 weeks. SO I had some time left. So I let 2 weeks go by, and still no checks. So I called again, and now the guy (who answered the last time) said that I'm still missing some information from my account. I kinda got mad because I know she copied it when I initially opened the account and then called to have me fax it over again a week later! So here we go again. I told the guy on the phone that I would just come by tomorrow with everything and we can do it in person. On Saturday morning I went over to the bank with all my information they needed (again!). And it was just the guy (who answered the phone the day before) working the customer service desk. He takes all my information and copies it. I said "don't lose this...". He laughed. While he's doing all of this, he kept profusely apologizing to me, as this should have never happened in the first place because it's just sloppy work. (and yes, that girl was let go because of her mistakes!) Now everything is done properly. I should get my checks within a week. I told the guy I don't hold him at fault for that girl's mistakes because it 'does happen'. BUT to do it twice.. and then still lose it? That's what I was angry about. He re-assured me that everything was setup correctly now and I should be OK from here on out. 10 days later my checks came in the mail! Outside of the initial snafu, I've been a very happy customer and have had no problems since. The web banking is awesome. The phone app is awesome. I get paid to have an account (interest bearing checking), plus a free savings account. I get refunded up to certain dollar amount for ATM fees. It's a 4 minute walk from my front door to the bank, so deposits and ATM-usage are easy. And they are always sending me information for some new service they are offering, so they are always doing something. Overall I'm happy I made the switch. Only time will tell what happens next (if anything)
