Without the help from Sujata at Mother Nurture WNY, I would not have had the birthing experience I had, and would have given up and asked for meds a lot sooner than I did. Having no time to prepare fully for the birth with house renovations and a full time job before the baby came, Sujata's help was invaluable. She helped me through the worst of labor- walking with me, breathing with me, talking me down from the ledge so to speak. She was incredibly compassionate, reassuring, and understanding- which I thought was rather difficult since my labor had me projectile vomiting with each major contraction (yikes!) - she stuck with me and didn't seem to mind! I knew I wanted pain medicine at some point, and had discussed that with her in advance, but was trying to hold off for as long as I could. I did not feel like I was being judged when I demanded (screamed) at my husband to get me the epidural when I could no longer take it. She definitely lets you decide what you want and is supportive through it (wether you want pain medicine or not, she will listen to you and help you). She kept telling me how hard I was working and how proud she was of me and how great I was- it was just what I needed to hear. She was also an advocate for me when I couldn't find my voice. The hospital wanted to put me on pitocin and pain meds IMMEDIATELY when I got there, and she reminded me it was MY choice- and kept asking questions, like 'is this necessary now, can we wait to decide', etc. I really loved that- I was too timid to speak to the nurses and doctors frankly. After the birth, she was the first to visit me at home, bringing me food and emotional support in the days after when I needed it most, and helped me with tips on breastfeeding and how to manage my new baby. She is incredibly passionate about birthing, and was hands down the reason I was able to get through childbirth, prolong pain medicine, and made me feel like a warrior when I felt like I was falling apart. She was my right hand and my north star through one of the most painful, difficult, and magical experiences of my life. read more
