I am a former spa owner who has worked in the Wellness Industry for over 20 years and can say that…read moremy experience here, specifically with the "teacher" Leasanne, was not only astoundingly unprofessional, but downright traumatic. I was new to Hot Yoga and the Palm Springs area, so I purchased a 30 day pass with the intention of trying all the classes and finding community. The first two classes I took were amazing and did wonders for my body, which was totally locked up from a lifetime of trauma and autoimmune issues stemming from Autism and ADHD. While my disabilities are "invisible" I am used to people picking up on them and treating me differently as a result, but I never anticipated being bullied and harassed by a yoga instructor and classmates in what is supposed to be a healing and supportive environment. When I was unable to keep up with the pace of the class, which is described as "all levels welcome" Leasanne became very aggressive in singling me out with impatient corrections. Half way through the class, she came stomping over to me while I was on my back, put her beet-red sweaty face within inches of mine, sweat dripping down on me, and yelled at me for "defying" her. When I informed her that I was listening to my body and that I would continue to move at the pace my body allowed, she became even more angry and said it wasn't a Yin Yoga class and I needed to respect her authority. Last I checked, I am the authority over my own body, but either way, I've never been in a yoga class where the instructor took issue with someone doing child's pose or something similar if they needed a break, especially in a 110 degree room where over-exertion could lead to serious medical emergencies. Leasanne spent the entire 90 minute class chastising and attempting to humiliate me for my disabilities: 1. ADHD - Auditory processing and motor skill delays compromise my ability to follow verbal instruction means I need to rely on mirroring others. Isn't that why the room is full of mirrors? 2. Autism - Pathological Demand Aboidance and a connective tissue disorder called Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, makes it difficult for me to transition quickly, especially when someone is micro-managing me. After the class, several other out-of-towners comforted me in the locker room. They were also appalled by Leasanne's behavior and commented that they had never witnessed anything like it and would never be coming back. When I went to leave, Leasanne and about 6 regular class members were waiting for me in the lobby. Leasanne said, "I hear you struggle with Autism" to which I replied "I'm not struggling with my Autism, but you clearly are". When I refused to shake her hand or give her a hug after she just spent 90 minutes traumatizing and harassing me in front of 30 strangers, that's when the regular class attendees surrounded me and one got up in my face to tell me that I was the problem because she has Bipolar Disorder and it didn't affect her ability to be in the class or get along with people. What!?! BPD is not AuDHD and if you're doing so great with it, why are you literally attacking me for not being able to keep up with the pace of a yoga class? That's insane. Needless to say, the whole ordeal put me into an Autistic collapse, so I didn't ever go back to be in "community" with a bunch of psychopaths. The money I spent on the 30 day pass was a loss, since I didn't have the energy or emotional regulation to advocate for myself, at that time. The experience was so traumatic I haven't been able to go to ANY group yoga classes since, and it is only now, 20 months later, that I'm even able to talk about it. I'm pretty sure I should be talking to a lawyer, but you gotta start somewhere.

Love YogaSix Palm Desert. I stopped in one day to inquire about their classes and take a look at…read morethe studio and merchandise. I spoke to Jacqueline who was VERY helpful, knowledgeable and kind. The studio is beautiful offering one room that is heated, wired for sound and has soft floors. There are two restrooms, cubbies for storage of personal items during class, and a fantastic selection of top quality merchandise that includes Manduka gear and Spiritual Gangster clothing! I purchased the introductory 3-classes for $26 to be used in the span of one week. I downloaded the YogaSix app... booked my classes... attended and LOVED it! The first class I attended was a Slow Flow and the second was a Restorative Flow... both had great instructors, beautiful music, and left me feeling centered and grounded. I split my time between Long Beach and Palm Desert and have been practicing Yoga in Long Beach for almost 10 years now. Until recently, there wasn't a studio in the desert that offered the beautiful and clean spaces that are commonplace in most beach communities. YogaSix is a beautiful, new, and modern space and definitely the answer to my yoga prayers. It was lovely to practice amongst a group that included people of all ages... young and young at heart. I've always felt that Yoga is for everyone of all shapes, sizes, and ages... and that's exactly who this YogaSix crowd is. If you've every wanted to give yoga a try... please allow yourself the opportunity to experience it. You don't need fancy clothes or gear... just show up with an open mind and heart and be prepared to receive. Namaste.

They create such a welcoming environment and offer modifications. They also encourage you to meet your body where it's at in that given moment, and I greatly appreciate that after having a sour experience at different studio (not YogaSix). YogaSix doesn't have the spiritual feel that I would tend to gravitate towards, but it's a very nice studio. I started coming here when I was facing some big life changes, and it's been really great to grow my practice here. Felt like a really good starting point for someone completely new to yoga! The front desk staff are always warm and welcoming and I love the convenience of their app to book classes. Thank you YogaSix!
