When someone seeks urgent care, they are often already stressed, unwell, or vulnerable. Being met with hostility or indifference at the front desk is unacceptable and deeply concerning. Front desk staff set the tone for the entire visit, and in this case, it reflected poorly on the professionalism and patient-centered values CareNow claims to uphold. I truly hope management addresses this issue, as no patient should feel pushed away or treated with passive aggression when simply trying to receive medical care.

The one who has the weirdest accidents. I called Encompass, who are in my network. Surprisingly, I got right in the very next day. I went there, and I hardly had time to sit down in the waiting room before they had me in the exam room. The doctor, an older doctor, female, saw me, referred me to ortho for my shoulder at Centerpoint hospital, ordered the labs I wanted, ordered a pappy and a mammy (ladies will get it). I went around the hall, got my labs done (a bunch of them, including full thyroid panel). I went out to the desk, scheduled the pappy, came home. She faxed a scrip for nasal steroids (my nose had practically closed after the car door incident, and needed to be patent). Everything I expected. The doctor, fair, weak bedside manner. They called within the hour to schedule the mammy, which they do there. They have a cool online system, where you can go online and see your labs.I like to know all my numbers, as I'm a nurse, and read hundreds of charts a week. Update: I made an appointment to see the podiatrist, and the appointment desk employee tried to argue with the fact that I can't make appointments, due to my job, before 3. She said, "Yes you can," I said, "No I can't take off before 3, I'll get in trouble." "Well, the doctor only accepts patients in a row. You can't come in at 3, even though the time is open." I said, "I'm coming at 3. That's my appointment time." "Please call if you can come in earlier." "I can't come in any earlier, my job won't let me take off." How odd. Now for the negative: Do not expect to get a definitive answer or solution for a specific issue. I've gone in 2 or 3 times, now, for specific issues. I leave with a prescription and basically what amounts to guess-work and an attitude of "try this". My last appt. involved lab work and Dr. Edwards assistant calling me with the results. She gave me info on other issues, but absolutely nothing regarding the issue I came into the office for. I asked her what about that issue and she said she'd have to talk to Dr. Edwards and call me back. It has been over a week and no call back! I do not trust this office to actually dig into and find a solution for medical issues. She seems to be very ready to prescribe medications and not seriously look into what may be causing the issue. My goal in sharing this is to ensure accountability and prevent any other family from suffering such a traumatic experience. My mother arrived at the hospital via ambulance exhibiting clear symptoms of a neurological emergency: she was unable to walk, had numbness on both sides of her body, and was struggling to speak. Despite this, the emergency room staff failed to conduct a stroke assessment entirely. Instead, they misdiagnosed her with "dehydration." The staff intended to discharge her in this state, and it was only due to our persistent advocacy and insistence that she be admitted that further testing was performed. These subsequent tests confirmed that she was, in fact, suffering from multiple mini-strokes on both sides of her lower brain stem. It is deeply alarming that the hospital staff was prepared to send a stroke patient home, and I am now deeply concerned that we are being billed thousands of dollars for the incorrect diagnosis and inadequate care provided during that initial assessment. Furthermore, during her stay, the nurse assigned to her care was physically and verbally abusive. This nurse refused to assist my mother in getting to the bathroom, forcing her to attempt to move while physically unable to do so. The nurse was verbally abusive, repeatedly accusing my mother of being a "drunk" or "on drugs" and claiming she was "faking" her pain while forcibly removing her clothing. When my sister and I attempted to advocate for our mother, the nurse was hostile, rude, and continued to glare at us from outside the room. We requested to speak with hospital management multiple times regarding this behavior. While we were repeatedly promised that someone would discuss the situation with us, no one ever appeared to address our concerns. The fact that my mother was treated with such cruelty and professional incompetence during a life-threatening medical emergency is completely unacceptable. We are demanding: 1. An immediate investigation into the conduct of the nursing staff and the emergency department's failure to follow standard stroke protocols. 2. An official amendment to my mother's medical records to accurately reflect her condition and the failure to diagnose. 3. A full review and adjustment of all billing charges related to the misdiagnosis and the negligent care provided. We expect a prompt and formal response regarding how you intend to address these serious failures.

After 3 years apparently you're discarded and considered a new patient, and every PCP office I called within the Lees Summit and surrounding areas either aren't accepting new patients or they're not scheduling new patient appointments for a minimum of 5-8 months, leaving me without help after severely injuring my back, I was in so much pain, and I needed immediate care, so I made a same day appointment (on a Sunday) at NextCare Urgent Care is Lees Summit (off of McBaine Drive), and they exceeded my expectations in every way. First, you can make an appointment online, and they honor those appointments (no matter how many walk-ins are there before you.) In addition I have received exceptional care. I've been twice in the last 2 weeks, and have had to call in multiple times. They are always quick to respond and incredibly helpful. From the front desk (who is also the R.T./x-ray tech), to the nurse who was so kind, caring and helpful, to the Dr/FNP Thomas Sims, I have received excellent care. The nurses were amazing and I always felt like they took the time to listen. I have been in healthcare for 13 years and have never met a better group. Little things and details do make a difference, and I want to recognize them for it. Debbie made us feel so comfortable and cared for, even came back after her shift ended to see our baby daughter and congratulate us. Lauren was so thoughtful and efficient, thinking of things we might need that we had not even asked for during our stay like extra blankets, taking our trash and restocking items, discharge planning and so much more, THANK YOU. Lisa was the nurse who took our daughters measurements. Her gentle touch, calm and loving demeanor created such a warm atmosphere. Emily took exceptional care of us the day after birth, was on top of every concern and even made the blood draw for my wife (she hates needles) a breeze. I realize that every day is different, but you can't fake a team that knows what they are doing, that works hard and really cares. I would also like to recognize all of the food staff for amazing meals, EVERYTIME. We liked it all and were shocked by the number of choices and the high-quality dishes that were prepared.
