Unless of course he is on the spectrum, in which case I forgive his lack of social skills. He seemed less than thrilled to have two middle-aged American women in the pub tonight. No worries, we struck up a conversation with a local, Luiga(sp?). It's a cool place. And I suppose if it were a weekend, it would be great. But tonight, well it was unfriendly and not very welcoming. Too bad because most of the rest of Ireland has been pretty nice.

Fortunately, an old friend has settled there and he suggested we meet up for a reunion at Scannells Pub. And what a great suggestion it was. In addition to a hearty old school drinking establishment out front, in the back is a pleasant beer garden, quiet and away from the street. It looks like live music plays there in the summer time, but alas nothing on a weekday afternoon. In addition to local and national beers, the menu is an excellent combination of old and new school pub food. Fish and chips of course are there of course (which my son devoured), as well as steak fillet sandwiches. I opted for the West Cork burger, and my wife the Mediterranean plate. The menu does change periodically, but I am assuming that whatever they serve will have the same high quality. If you happen to be in West Cork, Scanners is definitely worth a stop.

She literally looked at us with a sour face and turned away. So, we did too! We walked right back outside and across the street to Casey's. We get it. You're Irish and we aren't. (although according to Ancestry.com, we are 68%). You are local and we are tourists. But you know what? We are all humans and there's no reason not to be kind! And guess what? You will find that many of Ireland's musicians will pop in here to have a listen or even jam with the band. But those nights are special - don't come here depending on them.
