We called and fortunately for us they were available and took us in within minutes of calling! Now I do not hunt so I used this place more as a bed and breakfast rather than for the hunting aspect. Upon driving up to the ranch, we were greeted with nothing but the utmost respect. All of the ranch hands and staff are truly kind gentlemen and welcomed us with hospitality. We went on a day where it had snowed something terrible the day before and our car could not make it up the driveway. They gave us a ride in one of their pickup trucks up to the lodge and while we settled in, they plowed for us and even drove our car up for us so we didn't have to go back in the cold! They let us have our pick of the rooms available and even carried all of our luggage to it! Breakfast was served the next morning at our desired time and the cook was very sweet and catered to everybody's individual preferences with professionalism. The lodge itself is absolutely stunning and very clean and also quite large! It had a grand living room, a bar room complete with fireplace and stocked wood, a sauna, a massage room, and an open kitchen with an extra large dining area that opened up to the back porch that had the most beautiful view of the land below! We had the whole place to ourselves. It was literally like having our own extra large "cabin in the woods" to ourselves the entire night! The lodge was extremely clean and decorated tastefully. I'm not at all into hunting or taxidermy but could still appreciate how beautiful the lodge was decorated and built otherwise. Modern with a cozy feel! Would definitely be back. Would make for one awesome getaway with a group of family or friends! A++ and definitely worth checking out if you love that feeling of being lost in nature. :) calm and beautiful. Thank you for the awesome stay, gentlemen!

This place, if you choose to hunt here, will teach you how to clean, dress, and cook your venison! Even those who don't hunt will find a great place in the off season to hike the trails. The meals were delicious, every one of them! The room was comfortable and spacious, and there are only 6 of them, so you will never feel crowded with too many guests. 24 hour access to ice, fridge, and soft drinks is a nice touch! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope to come again.

The loft was beautiful and contemporary while still maintaining the genre of the era. The attentional to details by the innkeepers was phenomenal. The Cartier Mansion itself was exquisite, and the woodwork in the mansion was beautiful. Finally, the breakfast that we were served was simply divine, meeting the standards of this Foodie. Highly recommend this property for a B&B stay!

We were shocked and delighted to discover that the best Historical Bed and Breakfast in the nation was right here in Michigan!! So we read up on the Cartier Mansion and decided to make that our place to celebrate. Let me tell you, the narrative on the Cartier Mansion website paled in comparison to the actual facility and experience. There is no possible way to describe in words how breathtaking the Mansion is in real life. Not only that, but the cuisine ( which we later learned was created and prepared by the head chiefs who spent 6 weeks in Europe learning the best international dishes to serve in order to start your day feeling pampered with amazing endorphins from the meal !!). Jenna and Chris ( the owners) greeted us personally and gave us a thorough tour with the historical perspective. Every amenity that we could've imagined was thoughtfully provided plus many that we couldn't even have thought we needed, but completely enjoyed. Not only was the facility something that FAR exceeded our expectations, the recommendations for meals, shopping and activities were spot on. If there was a way to rate Cartier Mansion and it's owners anything above the top level, I'd double it. Thank you Jenna and Chris for the best experience..... it was far above our dreams and expectations :) Wendy and Gail

Pros- there was plenty of space for our group of 20+ people to spread out on the property.  We had plenty of room for parking and were only a mile from a grocery store when we needed supplies. There were plenty of bath towels for our use and the AC on the second floor worked well.  There were board games, books and yard games for our group to use. Cons- the property felt rundown and neglected.  The lawn was too high when we arrived and was never mowed during the week we were there. Since we planned to spend a lot of time outside this was disappointing.  The deck on the Lake House is in need of serious repair.  There were pots full of dirt and weeds scattered around and the landscaping was so overgrown we could barely see the lake when sitting on the furniture.  There are some very soft spots in the decking that I was worried someone might actually go through.  The kitchen has an apartment size stove/oven which we were not expecting. The oven wouldn't even fit a standard baking sheet. Our kitchen seemed to be missing a lot of items: can opener, spatulas, a large bowl for mixing, sauce pans, etc.  We also didn't have a single clothes hanger in any of our closets or any floor fans, even though we were told there was at least one for us to use. We were told things get moved around from house to house when groups stay there, which is understandable. I think they need a list of basic items that should be in the house when the cleaning is done so it's ready for the next guests though. Luckily we knew the people in the other rentals and could borrow things from them. The AC on the main floor did not work well. The showers/bathtubs need to be updated.  The grout was stained/dirty and the shower head on the main floor bath was the smallest one I've ever seen.  The living room was a good size but so full of furniture it was hard to move around.  There are also electrical cords running along the walls on both sides of the TV.  You can tell they had to run those for the TV hook ups which is fine, but could be a problem if you have little kids in your group.  None of the outdoor spaces on the property were very well kept up or inviting places to hang out. Overall I feel like it was a good home base if you are going to spend the majority of your time offsite. This property has tremendous potential and would make an awesome small event venue if repairs were made and the grounds were properly cared for. If I was looking for a property for a group of 20-25 people I would stay here again because it is hard to find a place to accommodate that many people. But if I were looking for a place for just my family I would stay elsewhere.

For starters Ernie and Vivian were incredible host, honestly made us feel right at home the second we walked in. The Inn itself, is the perfect combination of old and new, well preserved antiques with modern amenities. We stayed in the spinning wheel room and it was very nice. Of course seeing threw the tub, into the bathroom, from the bedroom, wasn't a typical accommodation we understood that it was a temporary fix. They are planning on remolding the bathroom throughout the house soon. On the other hand, the bed was pretty rough. I hate to mention anything negative about this place but I had to at least prepare you for your sleep. Saying it's hard, would be an understatement. If they were to update the mattresses around the time they are planning on the bathrooms this would be in my top 3 B&B's we have stayed at. It's still in my top 5, but the bed is holding it back. However once you wake up crack your back and stretch out a bit you quickly forget there could've been anything wrong. The breakfast was a decadent feast with homemade jam, whipped cream, and even maple syrup. Then to burn it all off, there beautiful home is located on 127 acres of even more beautiful woods equipped with trails for easier walking. We will definitely be staying here again if we are even remotely close to this area again. Thank you Ernie and Vivian!

Badger chugged us across the the Mishigami in a puff of glory and airborne soot, leaving us feeling like industrial-age aristocrats -- if aristocrats wore raincoats from Target and clutched their luggage like damp raccoons. As we disembarked, the skies opened with the enthusiasm of a Shakespearean tragedy. Ludington greeted us with what meteorologists refer to as "a gentle mist" and what the rest of us call "a relentless downpour." Naturally, we had to walk. Uphill. In the rain. To The Lamplighter Bed and Breakfast, which at that point may as well have been the mythical city of El Dorado. Upon arrival -- soggy, windblown, and questioning all life choices -- we were met by Dan and Jen, the B&B hosts who are either actual angels or have taken an advanced course in hospitality sorcery. They didn't flinch at our drowned-rat appearance. Instead, they welcomed us like old friends returning from sea. We half expected a butler to emerge. Our room? A cozy, clean, charming haven complete with a fireplace. We stared at it for twenty minutes like cavemen discovering fire for the first time. It was warm. It crackled. It whispered, "Go get cocoa downstairs." In the morning came breakfast. Let me just say: if Dan and Jen ever start a brunch religion, we're converting. The food was spectacular -- fresh, flavorful, and clearly prepared by someone who has stared into the soul of an egg and understood its purpose. One bite of their homemade goodness and I briefly blacked out from joy. Dan and Jen do not merely run a bed and breakfast. They curate a full journey. You arrive wet and cold. You leave warm, dry, nourished and wondering how much property goes for in Ludington.
