The reason for my review at this time comes after falling prey, this week, to a scam that could have turned bad. Two days ago a blue screen pulled up on my computer stating a code that said there was a virus detected. A phone number to call was given and a statement saying not to shut down the computer or data would be lost. I called the number and spoke to a person who sounded very professional and "nice". I allowed him to remote into my computer (thinking this was someone with Microsoft) and after a while he began to tell me spyware had just recently begun to infest my computer and it was growing day by day. I have had a wonderful company protecting my computer for years...so was surprised. After telling me it would take about an hour or so to fix the problems he told me there would be a fee of $200 to take care of this and that it needed to be taken care of right then. Red flags started popping. When told I did not have that, he reduced it to $125....more red flags. I told him that I would feel more comfortable taking my computer in to Computer Zone where I could speak one on one with them directly. This person never got ugly with me, but said not to shut the computer down until he had backed out of the remote. Once I got off the phone I did shut it down. I immediately called Computer Zone and spoke to Wayne. He immediately told me that it was a scam and that they were seeing more and more of this. He told me a tech would contact me shortly and told me upfront what the estimate could be. I was called back in about 5 min. Wonderful tech, Matt, remoted in and talked me through all of what he was doing. He showed me what the blue window from Windows would look like and told me they would never have a phone number for me to call. They never made me feel stupid....but I sure felt stupid. Matt ended by telling me my computer was just fine and the the scammer had not done anything to my computer. He fixed a couple of things that he thought would help with security issues. I purchased dual monitors for my refurbished Dell computer. I thought it would be easy enough for me to connect & have immediate access. I was so wrong. I tried several scenarios, did the research on what connectors would work for this older refurbished computer, then went to a local office supply store to be told they would have to order the connector for me and of course shipping would be in a week or two. I told them no thanks. On one occasion last year, this same office supply store referred me to Computer Zone for a part they did not stock. I had a good experience then, so I went back to them with this problem. I explained what I was needing to Wayne and he promptly had the part for me at a reasonable price. I went home and after not being successful with the attempt, I took the part back and asked Wayne for a different connector that may possibly work. He then suggested I bring the unit in for him to see what I was actually needing. I left the unit with him and in less than two hours he called to tell me I could pick the unit up. I'm sold! It's hard to find such caring, prompt & A+ professionalism as I have found with Wayne and Computer Zone. I chose Computer Zone based on reviews and I was not disappointed. They went above and beyond trying to find a non-available part for my HP All in one. Ended up buying a new computer. They told me to bring the new one to them still in the box when I got it. They then performed a "mirror" transfer of my C drive and physically moved my D drive from the old to the new. This saved me days of time configuring and uploading/downloading software and other programs. Everything on the new computer was exactly as it was on the old one when I powered it up, including wallpaper, email contacts, settings, everything! It's funny, but the minute I walked in, I knew I was at a special place. Wayne was behind the counter, saw me, and immediately asked me how he could help me. I had 2 laptops, 1 had a Trojan virus, the other one would not turn on, or take a charge. He told me that he would call me the next day. To my surprise, he did call the next day and informed they were ready to go. They are now operating like they did when they were new. The charges were more than fair, even less than I expected. First, when panic sets in -- call Wayne first!!! My sister has been a raving fan for 10 years and now I'm in the club. When Windows 10 said NO to my ancient MS Money program that had 1998-2016 personal records (old Vista computer crashed), I was told by many on-line chat rooms and Quicken tech support that my "data file" couldn't be converted. Also, internet said there was no MS Money that would work with Win 10 . . . then comes Wayne to the rescue!!! Not only did he recover data, install a program that I couldn't find anywhere . . . he did this in one day!!! My experience with Computer Zone was exceptional! They contacted me every step of the way and clearly explained the issue and possible resolutions to repair my computer. They saved me a lot of money by coming up with a logical fix versus charging me a lot of money to make an unnecessary, expensive repair. I really appreciated their honesty and consideration for the customer! Their service was also prompt, even over a holiday weekend and during the pandemic. I am a student in college and needed a screen replacement on my laptop. Companies like Best Buy had a waiting line and I did not know what other places could fix it really quick. When I talked with Wayne from Computer Zone, he told me that he would be able to fix it quickly if he had the parts.
