Where do I even begin..
So the first time you do this, you're hooked.. You can read that all day long and think, this would never happen to me.. BUT HOLD ON TIGHT!!!
I, a long time fan of an active powerlifter, decided that "Crossfitters" were the bain of our existence.. Showing off with their moves, that secretly I knew I could never do because I was a fatty! :) I still can't do a lot of things but its not because I haven't tried.. I was truly at a crossroads with my health and life in general. I am here in a new state, I don't know anyone and I want more than anything to get my health and fitness back in check. I had a friend needing another non-member for their New Years Competition. I figured, what could 4 weeks hurt.. I would at the very least be getting back in to the swing of things and getting these rolls moving..
Little did I know, 4 weeks would FLYYYY by... I was amazed with what I had achieved in this short time. What my body could actually do when my mind wasn't being tricked. How saying, "Yes I can!!" Really does work. So at the end I had a choice to make, join the Compound or walk away... But there was no decision to be made.. I was already apart of this incredible family that loved be for who I was and helped me weekly to be a better person.. So I join because HELLO, I LOVE IT!! But more than that, I have people who, know my name... MY NAME! The smallest thing ever made the world to me. I was never judged, never gawked at.. They lead by example, not on a pedestal. So in class one day, everyone is talking about this, "Crossfit Open".. I am like, there is no way I am doing this.. I don't know all the moves, if I have to jump, I'll fall.. What if I have to do burpees.. OMG NOOOO!!! Then someone explains things to me, some friends there encourage me to do it and I said, WHAT THE HECK RIGHT??? What could this hurt.. Another 4 weeks if intense and committed training.
Here I am, 2 weeks down and I am already amazed, AGAIN!! I thought, this would never happen to me.. Here I am, not the best or the fastest, but I am in The Crossfit Games.. :O All because a simple hello and someone remembered my name. Remembered my weaknesses. Followed through with being a great leader and mentor ( There are actually many of you).. Took the time to show me that I could scale things to fit my needs but to always challenge myself to do more and get better..
This isn't just a place to work out.. It is a place to learn, grow, become a better person not only physically but mentally.. If you don't just want a gym, but a whole community, this is where you begin. Take my word for it.. I have failed many times, but I will always win each and every day I take another step forward. read more
