Highly recommend Composure Freediving for freediving classes. I am a 20+ year SCUBA diver and trying to transform those habits into freediving habits is no easy feat. Jonathon was both patient and supportive, giving helpful hints on how to change my SCUBA ways. Given these are not bad ways for a SCUBA diver, but freediving requires separate skills, especially when it comes to equalization and head position. Although I struggled, he continued to support and provide positive feedback, resulting in my passing the course. I can not thank him enough for his professionalism. Jon was such a great teacher, he was very patient and made sure everyone had a good, and safe, experience. He is an expert at diving and gave really good feedback on ways each person could improve, and tailored the learning to the individual. I was at different points during the course, but Jon was great at making me feel more relaxed and helping out when I needed extra support, like going in the water with me at times and giving me so a lot of guidance. I started practicing freediving a few months ago, and wasn't sure if I needed to take a course or could just practice on my own, but I'm SO glad I took this course, because Jon teaches you how to dive way safer and better and you learn rescue techniques. Composure Review I had a great time taking the FII Free Diver Level 1 Course. During the course, we covered the basics of safe and efficient free diving which included diver rescue, breathing/diving techniques, equipment usage, and lots of safety. I would highly recommend Composure and Jon for Freediving and learning in Maui! My girlfriend and i have been heading to maui for the past three years. Our friends there too Fii L1 from Jon over a year ago and have been recommending us to take the course as we progressed from snorkeling to free diving. The course was over two days, while this was holiday time in Maui, it ended up being we'll worth the time and energy. Class time was just that, class time. It flowed well and was just that time in a class, once we got in the confined space water the pace began to move and became more physically challenging. The static breathe hold was intimidating when you think about holding your breathe for 120+ seconds. Jon coached myself and girlfriend through with ease both on the hold and how to coach each other and watch the physical signals. Slam dunked in the end 2'30" for me and 3' for girlfriend Second day started early with a lovely kayak to St Anthony's, due to visibility we moved out further into the open. Jon walked us through each phase of the testing and review, what was expected and then how we did. Learning and teaching throughout the time spent with Jon. Afterwards, we took our written test and Jon walked through each phase, how we did, what to watch and what to improve upon. Freediving! If you're reading this then you're most likely already interested in learning how to freedive. The next step is to find the right instructor. Look no further because Composure Freediving in Maui is the best! I did my research too before selecting Jon (the instructor) and what people say in their reviews is true. I arrived bright and early for the academic portion of the class. It kind of reminded me of being in a college lecture since that's the last time I was in a classroom, but my instructor was cooler. Jon's full time job is actually an elementary Technology teacher, which makes him a natural teacher. Whenever I had questions he was patient with me and explained it so I understood it clearly. Obviously, I paid to be there but what you also appreciate is that everyone is there for the same reason. Jon is very passionate about freediving and it's obvious when he talks about the subject. When we did the pool practice I had difficulties at first but he was patient with me broke down each drill and always gave me helpful feedback. We never rushed through anything. Safety first! All the recommendations and helpful tips really made the experience better such as purchasing my own wet suit. Overall, I learned a lot and loved the fact that it was in Maui. Jon was an outstanding instructor, who I highly recommend if you are interested in taking a Level 1 FII class. I have been fantasizing about freediving the last few years, and I was finally able to take the class while on vacation in Maui. Jon was amazing in his communication during the months leading up, and he worked with me to schedule the class during the time I would be in town. I got more out of the FII Level 1 Class than anticipated. I came in with extensive snorkeling and some breath hold experience, but very little experience at depth. My anxiety regarding the dangers of freediving were completely relieved after learning all about the buddy system, and how to recognize and rescue your buddy if they experience an LMC or BO. I feel very comfortable being the buddy, and how much to push myself with a buddy watching. The first day in the classroom was useful, but a little repetitive if you have previous scuba certification and/or lifeguarding experience. Jon was a great teacher who made sure all divers were on the same page. After the classroom, we went to a pool to practice our surface entry, kicks, and rescues. Once we demonstrated confined water saves, we all practiced our static apnea breath holds, using proper buddy technique. For the open water dives the next morning, Jon provided kayaks that we took a few hundred yards off the beach to a great spot. We started with Free Immersion at 5, 10, 15, and 20 meters. Then we transitioned to our CWF dives at the same depth progression. Jon was diving with each of us in addition to our buddy watching at the surface. I felt very safe and comfortable the entire time. What a great experience! The day ended with demonstration of our rescues, and a nice kayak trip back to an amazing lunch at a beach front restaurant where we took our test. The value of the program is terrific if you want to feel comfortable freediving. While I wish I had more opportunities to make dives at depth during the open water session, what I learned during the entire program will set me up to be a lifelong freediver. This was an amazing experience. In two days we were taught all of the basics of the Level 1 Freediving, and I managed to get to a three-minute breath-hold with some basic breathing technique and encouragement. Nice small group setting. Jon was very hands-on and his video feedback work was immensely helpful. Although I didn't pass the final deep dive test because of a sinus issue, Jon has offered to retest that section of the course for free when I go back to Maui. read more

Awesome class and Jon is a great teacher. I gave this as a gift for my boyfriend and he really enjoyed the class. He was able to excel at all of the skills and I'm less worried about him free diving now. I took the class also to keep him company. I thoroughly enjoyed the composure freediving course. I was able to increase my static along with beating my previous dive depth.
