Make, age, condition and servicing was borne in mind when I made enquiry for a used car. On contacting by phone I mentioned I would be purchasing without any part exchange. In respect of the asking price, was unable to achieve any discount but due to the description, condition (as described online and said on my enquiry phone call), low mileage and the fact the company selling the car were not hundreds of miles away agreed to leave a holding deposit.
With this company's agreement, I arranged for a car inspection. The inspection found two tyres needed changing (car inspection found most probably down to the car being stood, not driven enough). The 4 alloy wheel caps, though purely cosmetic, quite corroded, an oil leak from a hose and several faults found on the diagnostic area of the inspection.
On phoning the company after being told of the inspection findings, spoke to George (one of the owners (Rob) Sons. It appeared that the cost for the two tyres were to be charged to me.
Needless to say, I wasn't too pleased with this situation and expressed the fact to George that when I make initial enquiry the car was (as described on the advertisement on their website) in excellent condition throughout. I was informed the tyres were very good, no leaks, no accident issues (which I also enquired over), the car had been inspected by themselves and no faults, issues whatsoever.
In my conversation to George, I mentioned that there was no lee way on the purchase price and felt it shouldn't be at my cost or down to me to pay for 2 new tyres when told all the tyres were very good in the first place. After all....as George stated on our phone call ...'He or his family wouldn't buy or drive a car that they wouldn't want to sell to anyone else."
George then went on to say "If you're not happy, I am more than happy to give you your money back. I have lots of interest in the car and dealing with many enquiries about the car. The car will easily sell."
I mentioned that I had placed a deposit on the car and felt he trying to 'fob' me off. I began to feel not valued or respected as a customer. I later contacted the company and spoke to Rob who assured the car faults would be sorted and the two tyres replaced (no further charge/cost).
A few days later, Goerge phoned me to ask if I was still interested in the car. I apologised mentioning that as I work and not always home to contact between 9am - 6pm, I hadnt been in touch earlier. My mobile contact number being the best to get hold of me, and not the landline. He then went on to ask if I would pay for the car.
I said I would make a further payment but would prefer to pay once the car was seen (not before). I mentioned I would pay by Mastercard, for a further amount, (a charge was made by the company for accepting Mastercard).
Arrangements were then made to visit the company for collection (and final payment) of the car.
My Husband went to collect/pay for the car as over the last few days I had fallen ill. My Husband found the company to be fine and quite helpful.
I feel the company should endeavour to provide good customer repiore and service. To describe their vehicles more accurately. Had the car inspection not been carried out, I would have been left to put several faults brought up on the diagnostics right, put right a hose oil leak and pay out for 2 tyres.
I placed the required deposit and as the purchaser. it was of no relevance in being informed by George that others were interested in the car, that it would easily sell and going on to say he would be more than happy to give me my money back when I queried the fact that I was looking to be charged for two new tyres.
In my line of work, the customer is valued and respected and all queries or issues discussed and resolved. Its nothing more than anyone would expect or wish for. I have dealt with buying new and used cars with various outlets and private sellers over the years and happy to give feedback according to my findings. I have been delighted with many in the past and therefore returned always to be welcomed, valued and respected.
On this occasion, it has been marred. A shame because the company looks the part online ( and found by my Husband on collecting the car) on seeing the company site and building. read more
