I come here for gifts maybe twice a year, and I wish I could be here more often. Mulberry and Lime (M-L) is a great store in an historic family home on Limestone Street in downtown Lexington. What I like about the store is both the display and the quality of the goods. No mass-produced, made in China disposable crap here. The emphas is on quality linens, writing paper, gifts, and china, and artwork M-L has a wedding registry, carries antiques, and there is a great selection of local art. This is a great place to get a gift for a female friend, a wife, a mother, a daughter, but there is cool stuff for men here, too. The owner is preservation-minded which makes me like her all the more, and the gift wrap is unique. You'll have no problem finding the store next to the Sayre School. There are always textiles hanging from the line in front to signal that M-L is open. This is the kind of store Lexington deserves. If only M-L had a small place to eat or have a drink, I think more people would come to this Lexington gem. I like the Moe's bowtie selections, and now there is some great art from Lexington artist Tuska. The giftwarap is always great. Hats off to this locally owned business.

Wakefield-Scearce Gallery is the perfect way to kick off the holiday season! We were able to find…read moreparking along the street right out front. My mom and I visited a couple of weeks ago, and we were absolutely enchanted. The historic building itself is stunning, but the real magic is in the beautifully and artistically decorated Christmas trees throughout the gallery. Each room has its own unique theme, and every tree is thoughtfully designed to match. We especially loved the woodsy room with its charming cardinal accents - it felt like stepping into a winter forest. Another favorite was the 70s vintage room, a complete with retro decor and nostalgic ornaments that brought so much character and fun. Upstairs we found several items we wanted to purchase upstairs. A staff member who was stationed upstairs gave us a basket and said she could send the basket downstairs to the checkout counter and it would be there for us when we were all done shopping. Every space was creative, festive, and filled with holiday spirit. It was such a lovely experience to explore together, and it's a tradition we are excited to continue (dating back to my great Aunt). There were so many Kentucky Proud products--candles, chocolates, coffees, and more. I loved that there were so many gift options (and things I wanted to take home for myself!) In the back of the store was a section of books by Kentucky authors/about Kentucky/take place in Kentucky that I could have spent so much time browsing.
