Summary: Tim, owner and operator of Complete Lock and Door Service, failed to do the work as agreed to, and repeatedly failed to refund the deposit of X that we paid him, after his own offer of refund. DETAILS (scroll down to "BOTTOMLINE" if you want to skip details): We contacted Tim in Apr 2018 to discuss the purchase+install of a Baldwin lock into our custom wood door, which at that time hadn't yet been completed or delivered. Tim replied quickly and visited our house shortly thereafter, which was under construction at the time. We gave a deposit of X to secure his services; the Baldwin unit would be purchased by Tim and installed at a later date, after installation of the door was complete. Issues with the actual door (no fault of Tim) delayed installation. We texted regular updates in Oct, Nov, and Dec 2018. He would sign off with, "No problem, let me know when it's in so I can come do the install." Missed Calls: We texted on Jan 7 2019 that the door had been installed. It's this that started a journey-to-nowhere. In that first month alone, Tim failed to make phone calls to which he had promised: - Jan 8, 9, 10, Feb 11, 12 Cancellations: For install dates, he cancelled twice: 1) Mar 21, with 1h20m notice (WE texted him to confirm), citing both death of relative on Mar 1 AND cold weather (which one, man?) 2) Apr 4; cancelled on Apr 3, saying "to [sic] cold and windy", asking to reschedule for following Thurs, Apr 11. In subsequent phone call, he mentioned, "in case there's a blizzard or vicious cold tomorrow." We reminded him that this was the purpose of the weather forecast, and the forecast for Apr 4 called for partly sunny and high of +9C. Offer: Mar 21 set the stage for the interesting part. His text that day included the key line: If you find that [rescheduling to Apr 4] unacceptable I will return your deposit with interest." My wife wanted to give him one more chance, so we okayed Apr 4. He offered to waive the remaining balance as he had wasted an entire day for us (Mar 21). We had a phone call following his cancellation, Apr 3. I demanded the refund that he offered on Mar 21. He told me that he couldn't do it, citing a "2 week reconsideration period," explaining that he gives customers 2 weeks to reconsider a demand of refund, with most of them coming back. I told him, "You offered this refund 2 weeks ago. I've already had my reconsideration period." By the way, Tim (I know you're reading this!) - this "2 week" horsesh*t makes you look real bad: either you were untruthful to us or you were giving away that many of your customers are unhappy with you. Next time, don't be stupid: try coming up with some BS that doesn't put you in a lose-lose situation! Refund: At the end of that call, Tim relented. He was unreachable after this call. We called+texted. No answers. Finally heard from him May 6: he promised the refund+interest. See the following list of SEVEN broken promised dates for refund: -May 6: promises May 24 -May 22: Can't do May 24. -May 27: Can't do it. Promises daily updates. -MIA until June 4. Promises Jun 14. -Jun 13: says Jun 14 not possible; X had a stroke. I reply unhappily. Tim calls, yelling that he is "pissed off" at my "lecturing" him, that I'll have money "next week." Doesn't happen. Subsequent texts on Jul 3 & 9 unanswered. -Jul 15: promises Jul 23. -Jul 23: Can't do. Promises Jul 25. Today, Jul. 30 - nothing. BOTTOMLINE: 'Was fast to reply to get the initial meeting and to nail down the deposit. After that, very hard to get a hold of. I have given a log of missed calls (see above); this doesn't include the many UNANSWERED calls and text messages. When I did manage to get Tim on a call, I have been hung-up on, yelled at (oh, June 13 was pure gold!!), cussed at with F-bombs, being called an a**hole (followed, ironically, by being told to "relax") and told that he "won't accept negativity" when I asked him why I should believe he will deliver the money as he had promised to six previous times, all to no avail. Tim failed to do the job. Excuse after excuse: health issues; just about every relative- wife, mom-in-law, bro, sis, 4 kids, grandkids; customers for late payments (Hey Tim, how about the cheque you got from Alex K who wrote you a nice review on Jul 18 for a job that you actually showed up for?). He blames the cold in Apr, even though we were trying to secure from Jan-Mar. He will butter you up with sweet nothings about "you're good people," "karma will return the favor." F*ck yes we are good people, Tim. We've tolerated your [read all of the above] for half a year!  Tim took our money. He has FAILED TO RETURN that money after SEVEN promised dates of refund. Message to Tim: I've also had relatives die, health issues and people not pay me on time (looking at YOU, Tim). Through that all, Sir, I have never, EVER, failed to pay my bills. Based on other posts (Yelp/Homestars), Tim's disturbing pattern of behavior with customer's money CANNOT be ignored. read more

Tim, the owner operator of this company, has been the most unprofessional tradesperson I've worked with. When he arrived to change the locks on 3 doors at my business, things seemed fine, and he even complemented me on how easy I was to work with. He cited he was missing some parts, and would have to return to finish the job another day. In the weeks that followed, Tim failed to show up for 4 scheduled appointments to finish the job. When I commented via text that he had missed 4 appointments, he showed up at my business and berated me infront of my customers. It ended up taking 4 visits (he was late on all four visits) to change 3 locks and 3 door closures. + the four visits he scheduled and didn't show up. After one month, one of the door closures ended up pulling my door frame apart. Since he said his work was guaranteed, I called to schedule a repair. He did not show up for the appointment. Instead he sent a lengthy text full of excuses the next day. Then he showed up unannounced and asked my husband for his phone number because "guys talk straight". In the end, I never received a proper invoice and my door is still broken. He no-showed a total of 5 times, arrived late the 4 times he did show up, was sexist, and spewed so many excuses. I would rather hire and pay a new locksmith to fix Tims poor job than to deal with Tim again. What a frustrating experience. read more

Tim helped us out with an unusual smart lock installation. Basically we needed a smart lock installed on our condo in Toronto, but were a few thousand miles away and needed to ship the lock to Tim pre-paired. He handled this smoothly, and was happy for us to Fedex him the lock, and meet with a friend of ours to do the actual install. When I called Complete Locks to provide us with a quote for a security upgrade Tim, the owner, came within the hour. However, the installation on Dec 13 was improperly done and he has missed 4 appointments over the last month to complete the installation (the week after, then 3 jan, 9th Jan, 13th jan). The excuses are many and varied: bad weather, another job, a supplier delay, car problems etc. etc. The last broken promise was to call or text on 19 Jan, more than 5 weeks after the original quote had said ""Complete in full on Dec 13." Specifically, I was charged $3,600 to install 3 security lights, change the locks, install bars on the basement windows, and install grills on the back door. Only the basement bars were correctly installed. On the day of the installation Tim arrived late, at 12, and then immediately left to meet a supplier. He left a colleague to start the work. However, I was charged nearly $2000 in labor including taxes (16 hours at $80/hr). As he left just after 6, he said he lived close by and promised to return the following week but he hasn't dropped by once to address any of the problems inside or outside the house. Here are the problems: -- the lights do not work. Even when the company tested them they activated whenever someone walked or drove past the house. They knew this problem at the time, and by leaving in a hurry--the police urgently needed their assistance they told me--avoided addressing it before they were paid in full. They then shut the lights down to recharge. In fact, the lights I was charged $160+tax for are actually very cheap ones, if my google search is correct. Crucially, they don't have a sensitivity indicator nor a way to direct the sensor and for that reason are not recommended when facing a road because the batteries drain very quickly. -- The back bars do not cover the whole window. The company promised to replace them, but has not. -- The front lock combines a stainless steel door mechanism and a bronze inset in the door. It doesn't match. I was promised that this would be rectified, but it has not. I could go on and on about broken promises, but I have already wasted a lot of time phoning, texting, and rejigging my schedule only to find that the company lets me down. The bottom line is that once the firm took my money it has not returned once to address the ongoing problems. read more

On Sept 12 2018, after I have taken possession of a house, I wanted to get the keys to the front and back door re-keyed. So I called Tim and he picked up right away and I mentioned that I will be at the home by 8pm so I would need to him come by that time. Tim came to the house at 8pm and gave a very thorough analysis of the locks for the back and front door. He was very diligent in getting his requirements, he asked me if I would be moving in with a family, when I expect to move in, and/or if I plan to rent the place out. For Tim, safety is everything and once I told him what my plans were for the house - he explained what my options were. He also mentioned what my options would be 4-5 years down the line, once I have a large family. The previous owner of the house, did every single fix manually by himself and did a horrible job of it so this work ended up taking more time (e.g. locks on the door were crooked, door can't close completely without giving it a push, etc). Due to this, the work took longer than we planned out over the phone, but Tim fixed all of these previous issues and he didn't charge me anything extra for the extra time/work. I even got an free upgrade for the locks that I was originally quoted from Tim because he didn't have the locks on him at that moment and he didn't want to leave my house unprotected. Tim also mentioned that I could buy a grill for the backdoor of the house and he mentioned a few department stores (e.g. Lowes) that would carry it. The next weekend, once I got the grill for the backdoor, I called over Tim and he installed it for me for free. Overall - I recommend Complete Lock and Door based on my experience that I had and they would be my go-to locksmith for any issues in the future. read more

He has a very affable nature and was able to explain what my options were and what he was doing in a straight forward way. So I'm new to the Toronto area and my wife tasked me with getting a locksmith to change the locks on her parents' Beaches area high-rise condo. Not knowing the marketplace, or having any connections in the home services industry, I was concerned about choosing a company/individual who would do a high-quality job without ripping us off. So naturally I checked Yelp to see who the players were, and to find the highest-rated ones. Am I glad that I did! Tim came over to the condo the very next day, and quickly replaced the lock, and gave us 6 new keys at no extra charge. He also took the time to explain the quality levels in the different locks that I had to choose from, and actually discouraged me from choosing a more expensive lock than was really needed (since the building itself was so secure). After the lock was changed, my property manager visited us, and informed me that the lock would have to be re-done because all apartments needed to be keyed in such a way that the "master key" that management had could access all of the units. Yes I was upset that I had just spent good money on a job that would have to be redone! I called Tim right away, and told him of the situation, expecting to have to pay for a whole new lock installation. To my shock, he said that he would come right back and do the lock again, and that he would not charge me for the re-installation. Suffice to say that I "lucked out" and called the right man for the job with my first phone call.
