Not really much of an improvement. This same electrician did the wiring for our kitchen remodel. When discussing under cabinet lighting we asked for bright white lighting rather than the soft white demos he presented. He stated that they had installed lots of the soft white lighting and seemed somewhat reluctant to use the bright white leds. He finally agreed to show the bright white leds, but he was not sure they had any in stock, which might explain his reluctance. The reason for mentionIng of the under cabinet lighting is this incident. Once the lights were selected I asked that they not be mounted flush to the black splash. To which he responded that not how we do it. To which I said I don't care how they do it, but this is what I want. He offered no rationale for "their way". Needless to say they are mounted flush to the backsplash. During our discussion concerning leaving the outlet/junction box in the floor he answered that this was the only location for the box because he had to keep the other circuits together. There was no other solution. When I stated that same logic resulted in the under cabinet lighting being placed in a location I did not want. He answered by saying this how they install them and besides if he put them where I wanted them he would be exposing the wiring which he could not do. When I responded that the wiring could be covered by a wiring chase or conduit. From the blank and bewildered facial expression I can only conclude that this thought had never crossed his mind. Hence I still have cabinet lighting where I didn't want them and a cover in my floor To remind of a job poorly executed. I will state that they are prompt, competent and courteous. The problem was with the bill, When I called I (at exactly 1:18pm) I was quoted a job price between $200 - $300 based on an hourly rate of $70/hr for labor... + parts. (I would reasonably assume this would include a trip charge for time to the job site). Brian called me back from the job site (at exactly 1:49pm) to let me know that he was onsite and while the fix required replacing 2 parts, they were not the parts we had originally assumed.... He only had 1 part on his truck and had to pick up the 2nd part. The next time I heard from Brian was at exactly 3:00pm telling me the job was finished, that I owed $300, and of that $70 was for parts. I told him to send me a bill in which he included a breakdown as follows: Parts & Labor $265 7% Tax & Credit Card Reader Fee $34.95 TOTAL $300.00 Based on the discussion(s) and quote he provided, I felt I had been overcharged in several ways...... Parts @ $70 (30% higher than other local plumbers, but I am not disputing this) Labor 1.5 Hrs including travel time to the job, as well as travel time to pick up the additional part he did not have on his truck (verified by phone records) @ 70/hr = $122.50 Tax at the above rate = $13.48 2.9% upcharge (standard rate) for paying by Credit Card $5.97 Total should have been $211.95 I spoke with Brian about this discrepancy, and his explanation was that * In addition to installing the 2 thermostats for an electric water heater, he had to install "new hangers" to hold the parts in place...... * The Credit Card Fee was 5% * I was being charged for the additional travel time back to his home after completing the job. * Since the price was within the parameters of the estimate he provided, it was legitimate, even though the estimate was a range based on the length of time required to perform the work. As I stated above, while the work was performed in a timely and (I believe in a proper manner), I was overcharged $90 for this job, and would warn that you should be careful dealing with this company for that reason.
