This place is truly amazing. Saving so many dogs from Mexico and giving them a new life full love and compassion. They make sure each dog goes to best best family possible. The staff is amazing as well. They offer clinics with low prices for vaccines as well as neutering/spaying services. They actually care more about taking care of the dogs than making a buck like the human society. That place used to be affordable but now it's all about making a profit. I hope to volunteer at these place one day and be a part of such a great establishment. read more

We started the journey to adopting a dog as our last one passed a year ago. We wanted a smaller dog and have heard very good things about Compassion Without Borders. We went to an adoption event with quite a few dogs available. After walking around and talking to the volunteers, who were all fantastic, we were drawn to a small white and beige dog. We wanted an adult dog, and we found out, the young pup was 6 years old. She was initially shy, but could tell she was very sweet. We picked her and she picked us. We adopted her, and Miss Rita is the sweetest dog we have ever had living with us. The entire adoption process and care they give the dogs were fantastic. You can tell they have compassion and love with all the dogs. I would highly recommend you take a look at them for adoption of these wonderful furry friends. read more

I adopted my wonderful dog there and then decided to volunteer there and have found this an incredible organization. Their love for Animals is first and foremost. They're well taken care of and brought here from Mexico after being found on the street. I love volunteering there and it is a great organization. read more

Dedication to rescuing dogs in need from just south of the Mexican border and overcrowded CA shelters is commendable. However, management's readiness to euthanize dogs with significant behavioral issues despite volunteer handlers' objections, then forcing out those who disagreed with the death warrants, reflects an inability to accept criticism from equally dedicated and knowledgeable people. read more

We adopted a sweet rescue through this organization. Pamela, the volunteer who met us was such a special soul - really embodied the spirit of compassion and set us at ease immediately. The little pup we brought home is a delight and we are so grateful for the care he was given at the shelter before he came to us. read more

Okay so I will preface by saying we haven't actually adopted a dog through them yet BUT I felt compelled to leave a review already because they are SOO pleasant to work with. Seriously, the best! We've been looking at so many different rescues throughout and around the Bay Area and they all send the same cold email "If you don't hear with us within 48 hours just assume you weren't chosen." I get it...you're super busy but it's really discouraging to a potential adopted to not know why they weren't chosen and to feel ghosted after filling out a long application. Back to CWOB I received an email from Heather within 2 days just to let me know the dog we were interested in has potential adopters and she'd let me know if she gets adopted or if we can meet her. Our search for other rescues stopped right then. We were so appreciative about CWOB's responsiveness. We emailed in again about another potential dog and she replied back within a day to give us an update! It's amazing how on top of things they are with all they have going on!Not to mention the absolutely amazing work they're doing rescuing dogs from Mexico! read more

I recently adopted a dog from CWOB. Before my appointment to meet one of their dogs I was clear with the adoption team that I wasn't ready yet to adopt a dog. I told them I didn't want to waste their time but I did want to meet a dog. I was given an appointment time to do just that and I purposely left my leash at home when I went to meet the dog. I told the adoption counselor when I got there, that I would not be bringing a dog home that day. As it turned out, the dog I went to see wasn't a good match but the counselor suggested I look at another dog she was sure I would like. This other dog was a better match for me but again told her I wasn't ready. But she told me they couldn't hold the dog. I was hesitant but it was late in the afternoon so I ended up going home with the dog. My house wasn't set up for it--my dog bed and leashes were in storage and the only leash I had was the grooming leash CWOB sent me home with. The next morning I was walking the dog on the grooming leash, which isn't even a real leash. The dog sprinted after something--a feral cat, I believe, and then kept on going, right into a car. The driver didn't stop and the dog, Sara, died in my arms. I'd had her for a total of 14 hours. She was a sweet dog and clearly it was my fault-- I should have found a real leash or better yet, I should have stood my ground, not taken the dog home and gone back the next day when I was ready, with a dog bed and a real leash to welcome Sara to her new forever home. The counselor was a nice person but I felt like I just wasn't being heard. I am 72 years old and still traumatized, probably for life. It also cost me several hundred dollars, for the adoption fee and the cremation fee. Very bad experience and while I hold myself accountable, I wish I had been told to "sleep on it" and come back the next day if I was still interested. Knowingly sending a dog home with someone who wasn't ready wasn't a good decision on their part--or mine, obviously. I'm sure this is a good organization--I have previously used and donated to them before. But this experience has left me shaken and sad and after two weeks I am still in shock--can barely function. I hope that COWB takes a look at changing their policies. If someone tells them they're not ready, please listen and consider holding the dog for even just one day. I have to believe that if that had happened, Sara would still be with me today and I would have a wonderful companion instead of feeling so devastated. read more

Compassion Without Borders deserves all of the stars in the galaxy. We are so fortunate to have such a wonderful rescue organization here in Sonoma County. I can not say enough wonderful things about CWOB. Christi, Mancho and their wonderful volunteers are beyond dedicated for all they do for the animals. Traveling to Mexico and saving dogs from the streets of Juarez, CWOB gives these homeless hounds the medical care and the second chance at life that they deserve. Compassion Without Borders also provides free monthly wellness clinics to the latino community providing vaccinations, microchips, ID tags, deworming and flea control. Low cost spay and neuter is also available to the community. These guys truly rock and we are so fortunate to have them as part of our community. www.cwob.org read more

Wow, just started volunteering with this fabulous organization whose only goal is to SAVE lives that would be lost otherwise. Getting dogs from high risk shelters, street dogs from Mexico and the list goes on is a mission of the heart and these people do it without a second thought. I happened to be there one day walking a lovely dog named Una and then the in-take vehicle came in with forty plus lovely dogs from a high risk shelter up Fresno way. I ended up walking Little Man Juan. There were some dogs in need of medical attention. So much love pouring out everywhere it would make you tear up. I can't say enough good things about this organization and the volunteer coordinator Sarah and how welcome she makes you feel. Anything you can do is much appreciated by them! Go by and see what I mean. You won't regret it. You get as much out of it as the dogs! read more

Incredible organization. I know from firsthand experience, Dr. Christi Camblor & Moncho (along with an awesome team of volunteers) are saving dogs from misery, suffering and death. They work to save our canine friends from dire circumstances in both Mexico and the United States. Simply put, I LOVE CWOB and do everything I can to support their efforts (I've even adopted a three-legged sweetheart Poodle named Bonita from a CWOB rescue in Juarez, Mexico.) BTW, I have a call into Pope Benedict XVI to offer CWOB for sainthood - no shit. PLEASE, if you can spare something to help these folks do their amazing and vital work, do so here: www.cwob.org Thank you, Patrick read more

These guys are amazing. They go down into Mexico and run all-volunteer spay and neuter clinics for animals there. As well, they bring back some dogs for adoption in the US and educate adults and children about humane treatment. Here's their mission statement: "Compassion Without Borders is dedicated to alleviating and preventing animal suffering wherever it is found. We work to reduce the number of unwanted animals in developing countries such as Mexico through international rescue efforts and by establishing free, locally run spay/neuter programs. In addition, we teach children in these areas about humane education and reach out to the communities wherever we work with donations of food, clothing, blankets, and school supplies." They are small, homegrown operation and could really use your props! And support! I LOVE these guys! read more

I know as a frequent Yelper I would know what to say about this organization but I don't know how to gush appropriately. Beyond words for the mission and the doing of improving and saving the lives of countless dogs wherever they may be. read more

Our dog died suddenly at only age two, and we were bereft, so seeking a new dog while grieving made all the disappointments, inefficiencies, and rudeness that much worse. People leave postings up on adoptapet and then don't respond (for months), people say they'll reach out within X days, and don't. Dogs that are shown on adoptapet or petfinder are already taken (and stay up there for weeks). I'd get attached to a prospect and then hear nothing back. Dogs that are listed as being in San Francisco are actually in Acapulco or Taiwan or wherever (we wanted our dog to meet any prospective dog). Some dogs are not neutered; their shots aren't up to date or complete, and on and on. Some dogs are $900 or whatever. (One rescue wouldn't answer my question about the cost, and wanted to talk to me on the phone about it, as if it were a secret!) I strongly recommend that you check Yelp reviews. I found some are doing really dirty business. This group not only is humane to the dogs in its care (and even others that are not), but they also are humane to searchers. We got our initial response quickly, and a more detailed one within the time we were told. We made an appt. THE DOG WAS HELD FOR US UNTIL WE MET HER, so no further heartbreak was involved. Someone met us and we had a meet and greet with our dog and the prospective family member, in a fenced area. Our dog, now named Worry, was spayed and fully vaccinated, and all her records were printed up and ready for us. We got a bag with some of her dog food, so we could transition her from theirs to ours. IN short, this group has thought of everything! As it turns out, I remembered that our other dog came through this rescue and the Sonoma County shelter, so in a weird way, they're siblings! We're happy with him, and we have every hope of being happy with this new girl. Great people! Organized and kind! What a combination! Thank you, CWOB! read more

I think Compassion Without Borders is a fantastic organization. They are so committed and dedicated to saving as many dogs possible. I have the privilege of volunteering there every week, walking the dogs and give them cuddles and love to help them transition into trusting the people around them. I got to adopt one of the fabulous dogs myself. it's been a joy in a pleasure and I will continue to help as much as I can. read more

Totally agree! This organization teams up with the only Animal Protection group in Juarez, Mexico. APRODEA- and CWOB are wonderful news for all animals rescued by them. I personally have been helping the Juarez animal group (APRODEA) with anything I can (pet supplies or financially) and it is so well used. Words cannot describe all of their work; but it is a blessing to have them around. Muah! read more

CWOB is great. It was the my best experience by far when dealing with an adoption organization. They responded quickly, and in the end gave me my new best friend, Pepper. CWOB goes down to mexico to help save dogs and give clinics for pups in need. Their facebook page is always updated with their latest events, it's very inspirational. If you love dogs, you should love CWOB. They do great things. read more

Our experience with CWOB was great. Heather communicated with us through email (which works best for our busy family) and set up a time for us to meet our forever dog, Charlie (Dandy was his name). Heather was sweet and open to answering all our questions. After spending some time getting cuddles and love nibbles from Charlie we decided we were the perfect fit for each other.
