I have zero complaints on her tax service. I would never recommend her for any services except taxes.

Not only is Summar Morris an excellent CPA, but she also provides other services such health coaching, yoga, and nutrition. I have seen numerous nutritionists in Sonoma County, and I think that she is the best because she offers a simple and sustainable approach to maintaining a healthy and balanced diet. I have lost 20 pounds this year, that I would attribute my weight loss to the nutrition guidelines that she has taught. Also, she helps with time management living a relaxed and balanced lifestyle juggling work and personal interests, that is essential to having a well-rounded lifestyle. I appreciate that she helped me implement a plan to set up an online piano teaching business in Sonoma County, and she had various ideas to marketing my services virtually, that will be a dramatic and exciting change instead of teaching in person like I used to in the past. read more

In November of 2020 I hired Summer Morris CPA based on other reviews I saw here on Yelp. I am a new small business owner and needed some help with bookeeping and taxes and based on previous reviews and our initial intake conversation it seemed like she was a good fit. Apparently neither of us listened to each other- I needed help with bookeeping and taxes and she offeres an 11 session $2000 flat fee financial and lifestyle coaching. Summer is transitioning from being a bookeeeper/CPA to sort of a financial life coach. I did not feel like that was clear when I forked over the $2k. Summer is a lovely person and it sounds like her business is shifting to this coaching to more yoga/lifestyle stuff (see her other yelp page). I believe her target market is folks much wealthier than I - not really new entrepreneurs who need help actually crunching numbers as much as the touchy feely of our relationships with money. Based on previous yelp reviews I kept waiting for us to get to the quickbooks training, the help with my confusing 2020 taxes. These services were offered after the $2,000, 11 session life coaching. I WISH IT HAD BEEN CLEAR ON YELP THAT SUMMER IS NO LONGER TAKING TAX PREP AND BOOKEEEPING CLIENTS I WOULD HAVE MOVED ALONG. During our 11 weeks I also went through some personal trauma and suggested we put a pause on our time together - but Summer insisted there was some method she was following that meant we MUST persevere. So, having paid for her time I continued these sessions (while unemployed, living on debt, and solo parenting a toddler during the pandemic, etc etc etc. It was a rough time for me). I have previously worked with both life coaches and business coaches and usually get a lot out of it- but I finished my course with Summer wondering what I had just wasted my money on. I wish she had a little more intuition to thing maybe we should have stopped. And I REALLY wish it was clear, written in stone, instead of implied that the $2,000 was for 'coaching' instead of actual bookkeeping and tax prep. I have hired another small business CPA with a bookkeeeping team to do what I had hoped Summer would do. I just wish I had saved my money for the actual work I'm currently having done. Summer is a kind person, I can tell she cares as deeply about her new business as I do mine, but clarity on what she was offered felt really lacking and our communication seemed really off read more

Ok, here's the deal. I own my own business and had been using Quickbooks Desktop for years and, as a designer, it irritated me to have to even open a pc laptop to do my recordkeeping. I was convinced to move to Quickbooks Online (QBO) after much research (and the fact that QB was making the desktop version much more expensive). I spent a lot of time researching/trying to find a QBO expert who could handle my bookkeeping, tax needs - as well as potentially help me with financial planning. I found Summer Morris. I am not sure I have ever been so relieved to find the right person in my life and I have been married : ) Summer is - first and foremost - a breath of fresh, positive air. She is patient, smart, organized, and even with my frightened face staring at her on our Zoom calls, undaunted. The hour zips by too fast, but I always leave feeling that much was accomplished, and a little less afraid that my financial empire : ) is crumbling faster than I can rebuild it. Our 2013 tax situation was complicated, to say the least; and after what seemed like the inevitable of owing thousands of dollars in taxes, we decided to contact a CPA. After scrolling through some local search results on Yelp, I called Summer. She picked up immediately, and even pulled over to the side of the road to focus on my questions. She was patient and very knowledgeable, as well as personable. Subsequently, after a couple emails and providing her with some information, she laid it all out very clearly for us; what to expect and how to exchange personal documents (which included her willingness to pick up locally, her secure online file exchange system, and/or simply dropping off papers at her Mendocino Ave. office in Santa Rosa) etc. When she did send documents over email that contained personal data, they were all password protected, which was easy, and made us feel very comfortable. Whether it was via email, by phone, or dropping by her office in person, she always made time for us and it was easy to see that she actually cared; unfortunately, that's far too rare these days. This was especially impressive because I would guess that we were a bit more 'needy' than the average client, but she never made us feel that way. In the end, instead of owing thousands, we were able to get hundreds in returns, which by far, exceeded our expectations. Also, if you're wondering about her experience level based on her new presence on Yelp... She used to work as a CPA for many years for a different company and just recently, decided to go into business for herself, unable to take her past clients (and their reviews) with her, since they technically belong to her past company. So rest assured, she has plenty of experience, and as you can see, is quickly building a good reputation for her new business. My wife and I would highly recommend Summer Morris. She may be one of the kindest professionals we've ever met. She does a fantastic job, and her pricing is very fair. Run, don't walk, to this woman's office. Before I tell you my story you should know this: she thinks taxes are easy, and seems almost surprised that people are willing to pay her for her knowledge. She is completely competent and trustworthy. Especially trustworthy. I showed up with a multi-year tax mess that I had created myself, and I was upfront about that. I simply placed this pile of papers on her desk and said, "How much?" She didn't answer that question. Ever. She very calmly went through the pile -- which to me by that point looked demonic -- and sorted it out. Then she printed out the tax forms I needed, including one I'd never heard of before, and explained how to fill them out. She told me what to do, how long to give the IRS to figure out my file, when to call them back, and what to say. And she wouldn't take my money. I wanted to pay her for at least the appointment, but she wouldn't accept. She thought the task was so simple that she felt there was no reason for me to pay her to do it for me. I was dumbfounded. My wife and I recently relocated back to Northern CA after 18 years in Los Angeles, and we brought with us a difficult tax situation. We tried for 2 months to find a CPA that would do something really important: put us at ease and instill confidence that our tax return would be in good hands. We were just about to give up and file for an extension when a coworker recommended Summer Morris. I called her immediately, and upon talking to her I instantly knew that we had found that CPA. She was extremely professional, and her wealth of knowledge and experience was obvious. We set up a time on the spot and she gave us access to a secure portal where we could upload all of our documents in advance of our meeting. I really prefer that method, and it made our meeting go quickly and efficiently. In person, she is extremely pleasant to work with. She addressed any questions we had and did some rough calculations on the spot to estimate our tax liability...which put my wife and I very much at ease. On our short drive home, she had already emailed us some additional thoughts about our taxes; a rare level of service to get during tax season. Any time that I contacted her she immediately responded, regardless of whether or not it was outside of business hours. When we got our final return back from her, everything was absolutely perfect. I looked at every detail and could not find any errors whatsoever. There were many different forms and additional work done to lower our tax liability that I would never thought of or known about. Her knowledge and experience saved us a significant amount of money. We used a CPA team back in Los Angeles for many years, whom we were happy with at the time. After having just worked with Summer Morris, I realize now that our old CPA was not so great after all. It was a real pleasure to work with her, and the whole process was so easy, affordable and worry free. I don't normally write reviews but we had the opposite experience then all the other yelp reviews and I'd like to let people know what they are getting them selves into. I wish someone would have warned me. In 2015, we were looking for a new CPA that could help us with the success of our business. We interviewed Summer and personally really liked her and what she could offer us. She said everything we wanted to hear: she was organized, on top of book keeping, would use our current systems, and was going to help us save tons of money with her tax planning. In the end, this was not what we received. Summer likes to over promise and under deliver; that is what we learned. We used her for taxes, book-keeping and payroll services. She turned out to be a great book keeper, but didn't know what she was doing when it came to taxes. Summer made a mess out of our taxes and we had to pay to have them fixed by another CPA. We ended up over-paying our taxes by tens of thousands of dollars due to her lack of competence! She completely dropped the ball during tax season and then when I asked any questions about our tax return, she was like trying to talk to a dramatic teenager. I've never been 'yelled at' for asking questions! On top of her attitude she was really OCD about random things. It really made our life so much more difficult then it was worth. It is difficult after trusting and working with a singular CPA for over ten years to move and to have to find another. Summer put me at ease after our first phone conversation. I have just started working with her. I can say that she is highly responsive, knowledgeable, thorough, helpful, and personable. Fast and Efficient. My accountant retired and Summer was able to understand my past taxes and move forward from there. We seldom write reviews, but Summer Morris has turned out to be such an exceptional CPA she deserves this recognition. For 41 years we worked with one CPA who was a talented partner in a small firm that grew through multiple mergers. Our tax return fees grew as well.. When he retired we struggled to find a similar talent, until we discovered Summer. Our returns involve two States with two Sub S Corp returns and personal returns, five total. Summer's fixed fee business approach solves the frustration of feeling you are being overcharged by a CPA with a run-away clock. We just reviewed the two Sub S Corp. returns. They are perfect with easy to understand workbook detail and the included convenience of electronic signatures in a secure site. We will be recommending Summer to other members of our family.
