My best advice about Compass Self Storage is just stay away. When I signed up, there were red flags, but I ignored them because I was in the middle of moving and in a hurry. Don't make the same mistake.
The employee who signed me up is named "Lisa." On that day, she offered to sell me a padlock for my unit. I agreed to buy one but then neither she nor I could get it to work. I eventually suggested to her that this padlock was defective and I would like a different one. Her reply? "OK, but you'll still have to pay for the first one." Red flag!!! I actually had to explain to her why that was unreasonable.
In the sign-up process, Lisa also gave me the wrong code to use at the security gate. Furthermore, she entered my email address incorrectly in the system, meaning that I never received any of the bills or emails I was supposed to get.
The first two months I received text messages that included a link where I could pay my bill. That worked fine. The third month, I did not receive this. I tried for days to pay and/or create an account on the Compass website. It took days of texts, phone calls and emails to figure out that Lisa had entered my email wrong into the system. By the time she finally fixed her error so I could pay my bill, I had been charged a late fee of $20.
Instead of removing the late fee caused by her own error or taking any action to help me, Lisa proceeded to call me every single day for the next ten days, leaving messages that my account was "urgently overdue." She now refuses to remove the late fee and even more late fees have been assessed.
At one point, I spoke to a different employee, Joe, who was very nice and said he'd make sure they stopped harassing me. However, he didn't do anything to help and I never heard from him again. The very next day, a Sunday, Lisa called me again from her personal cell phone acting as if she didn't know anything about my conversation with Joe.
I have left three messages with a regional manager named Mike Marcott. He finally called ten days later. Unfortunately he was even less helpful than Lisa. He would not listen to what I was saying, and interrupted me constantly. He was rude, sarcastic and disrespectful. For example, I mentioned at one point that I am an attorney. He replied: "Well, if you're an attorney then maybe you should read your contract."
This is not the kind of people you want to entrust with your belongings.
I asked Mr. Marcott for a phone number for his supervisor, and he claimed in a very sarcastic tone of voice that he did not have a supervisor. I asked several times, and all he would say was there was no one higher in the company besides him. Imagine that. Luckily, I have found a different way to contact the supervisor he supposedly doesn't have.....
In summary, just stay away from Compass Self Storage. Their business practices are unacceptable and no one there actually helps you. read more
