MD Electrical Contracting

I asked a contractor for a recommendation for an electrician and he gave me the name of this…read morecompany. I've used these guys twice, both times I had a checklist of things that needed to get done and they just went down the list and GOT IT DONE! They hung chandeliers, put in new outlets, updated old wiring, replaced old switches and plugs. Each time, there were two guys who worked together - Hugo was there both times. Professional, efficient, and reasonably priced. What more can you want? I'm really excited to have found some great electricians.

Typically I would not take the time to bad mouth another business online because I'm aware that it…read morecan have a detrimental effect, but we feel that the public needs to know about their business practices. Back in 2012 after super storm Sandy, I hired MD Electric to help rebuild a basement that was devastated by the storm. MD Electric was hired on a time and materials basis, rather than getting an estimate, because of the urgency of the repair. The basement had been under water and there was no power. MD Electric, blatantly and shamelessly, attempted to take advantage of the situation. We were told after the fact that he had no man power. Mike eventually told us he had hired an electrician who was new to the trade, who was then left on the job without any supervision. He wound up being on the job for 2 weeks to rewire 2 subpanels, something that should normally have taken a day or two at the most. Not only was the individual inexperienced, but the home owner had expressed many complaints about the electrician constantly being in his truck, smoking cigarettes and talking on the phone, sometimes for hours at a time. During the course of the 2 weeks MD Electric was on the job, we confronted Mike multiple times about how long the job was taking. Of course we cannot be sure, but it certainly seemed like an attempt to prolong the job so that he could charge for more time. This was a clear attempt to price gouge during an emergency situation. Of the outrageous bills you sent, the homeowner disputed $4,025 of it (not $5,000). Any honest electrical contractor would have been thrilled to have been paid what you received for the work completed. For example, Mike charged $1,400 to put in a new 20A dedicated circuit for a sump pump, 15' from the electrical panel, in an open unfinished basement. Normally that is a $200-$300 job, and he was paid in full for it. This is just one example of many of how MD Electric tried to take advantage of one of the worst catastrophes that's occurred in the last century.
