I had been looking for a sofa for over a year, mostly online, and had a precise idea of what I wanted. I stopped in here after checking out the clearance place next door. The store is labyrinthine, and I admit getting lost at one point. The salesman who helped me, Brian, was not pushy at all, but attending and accommodating (he went to look up a price and an availability for me). I looked at a few sets, but didn't feel pressed for time, and knew what I wanted in terms of features, just needed to find it. I found the one I liked best, received a 10% discount on the price (which was swallowed by the 5 year $99 warranty), and went to the back to pay. The lady who processes payments was helpful and not at all stern or visibly perturbed when my debit was declined (no doubt an anti-fraud precaution of my bank), offering to split the purchase price (paying half then and the rest upon delivery), which worked fine. My mom also got a discounted piece of wall art from a selection of clearance mirrors and art prints in their office. When I got home, I actually pulled up this page and read the reviews, panicked a bit that I had made a terrible mistake in buying from them, but alas this fear was unfounded. Delivery was within five days (including weekend) of purchase, and the delivery men arrived at the beginning of the window they told me, and were not at all flustered by having to re-route around roadwork in my neighborhood. They thanked me for clearing the space for them, showed me how the power recliners operate (the battery pack and motors). All in all, the delivery took maybe 5 minutes and one guy was able to do most of the work. They removed and disposed of all packaging (we have a dumpster at our building, which helped). A few days later, I received an additional receipt in the mail (for the second payment) and a hand-written card thanking me for my purchase, a gesture I find endearing in commerce. I especially wanted to write this review because I had a fantastic experience from shop to delivery. I don't mean to discount the authenticity of other people's experiences, I just want to share my great one. read more

Still the same. Why do I even go in here? The warranties are still useless. You can't even buy a floor model half the time, but you can ALWAYS find a salesman under the stairs watching TV. I very rarely give a rating this low and it hurts my heart to give one to a local business that supposedly prides itself on service. I had a couch delivered but it was damaged during the process of getting it into my place. A few tears and stains bc of wet stairway paint and trying to get it into my apt doorway. Delivery men were friendly and apologetic. They set up an appt for someone to come and assess the damage. Someone came out a few days later..he was able to get the paint out but couldnt repair a long black stain or a whole on one arm. Would need to order replacement fabric. I went to speak with the manager..a Mr Ernest...who was VERY nonchalant, rude and not helpful in the least. He told me he would give me a little money off or i could look for something else. He let me know i COULD NOT get a new replacement bc it was too big for my apt. Not so..i let him know tht it does fit and that getting it in would just require them to be lil more careful. He refused so i asked for a refund. He waived me to the back of the store to get one...not once did he show any concern..never evwn got off the stool he was perched on. Shame on you compass for allowing him to treat customers this way and FYI...I found the same couch at another local vendor. Such a weird experience here. I went in to buy the conversion kit for my daughter's crib. The gentleman on the phone said they had it in stock. Upon arrival, they did not, in fact, have it in stock. So they special ordered it for me. Three weeks later, it arrived. I was finally able to give my baby girl her big girl bed! When I got home and unpacked the box, the rails were not compatible. I called back and talked to the manager who said to return them. The customer service wasn't great to this point, but at least my ordeal was almost over. I dropped off the conversion kit and got my refund. While driving home, the manager calls my cell and rudely asks me what he is supposed to do with the returned item. I politely told him that was not my problem. He informed me that since it was a special order, he'd have to eat the cost himself. Again, not my problem. I'm still wondering if he expected me to feel sorry for him and come back out and take the wrong furniture home with me? Very unprofessional and just plain weird. Saleswoman was very helpful, but not pushy. Compass is the only distributor of custom Kincaid couches in the area, which I came specifically to order. Most of the furniture in the showroom isn't my style and I can't speak to the quality. But my couch is just lovely, well-made solid-wood construction from North Carolina. It took much longer to be delivered than initially estimated, but that is no fault of the seller. Anyone can do a quick Google search to confirm that supply chain issues have universally affected the custom furniture market post-COVID. Imo, it was worth the wait to get quality solid-wood construction built to order. The delivery guys were very nice and on time. read more

I figured I would be the first one to write a review, but I guess Hanh beat me to it by a couple of days. Similar situation. We purchased the Groupon and set in search of new bedroom furniture for our house. I wanted to keep it under $1,000 total, so we started out downstairs and then went upstairs to look at the lower-priced options. There, we picked out the perfect set of furniture. We then went to the cashier, who informed us that some of the pieces were on order, but they would call when they arrived. I inquired on how long it would take, and probably should have pursued it further when the answer was "we get trucks in twice a week." Obviously that didn't answer the question... I just (incorrectly) assumed it would probably take a week or two. Maybe this was my fault, but it's a little misleading. Anyhow, 2 weeks passed and I decided to call and check on the status. I had to leave a voicemail, and then got a call back telling me that the furniture should arrive the following week, and that they woudl call to schedule delivery. I was irritated at this point, but oh well, I waited some more. The following week, we got the phone call saying it was in. Yay! Now the fun part of scheduling a delivery. They had openings during the week, but couldn't guarantee a delivery time, so seeing as I live on the Westbank but work on the Eastbank, I wasn't about to take a whole day off to wait on furniture. I scheduled it about a week after the furniture arrived, on a Saturday. They said they would call on Friday with a window of delivery time. Great. Fast forward to delivery day. I had received a phone call Friday stating that they would deliver it between 12-4. That's a rather large estimated delivery timeframe, but whatever. My niece's birthday party was at 3, but I figured I would at least make it there a little late (worst case scenario). I just wanted the furniture to be delivered and get this over with after over a month of waiting. I waited, and waited, and waited. Finally, at about 3:45, I received a phone call from the delivery driver saying they were on their way. They showed up at 4:04. Seriously, with a 4 hour window of delivery, how are you 4 minutes late??? Argh. At the very least, the delivery and set up was fairly quick and efficient once they finally arrived. I gave the guys a tip. However, for the rest of the furniture buying process, Compass gets 1 star. I was going to go to Compass for Kids and purchase some furniture for our daughter's room, but I think we'll go elsewhere for that. read more

Can I please give ZERO stars! We purchased a $700 bench to our dining set from Compass. The bench was made with bad wood and had begun to split. Compass sent a repair man to our home who could not repair the bench and stated a replacement would need to be ordered...that was all fine and seemed great, as a matter of fact! Then the horribleness began....the replacement bench arrived and it was at that point that we found out we actually had to pay extra fees out of pocket for the exchange to occur! What?!?! How does being sold a faulty product equate to the customer having to pay more money? I like previous reviewers receive terrible customer service. The store manager was derogatory and disrespectful so I asked for the owner; well the owner was even worse, refused to even let me get words out of my mouth without yelling, so it's no surprise that his employees behave in this manner. So after that terrible experience, I contacted the Better Business Bureau for mediation. Compass was still unwilling to work with us, so we finally gave up realizing that if we even wanted to have anything close to what we originally paid for we would just have to suck it up and pay more money. So my husband goes to pick up the bench only to find out when he arrives that the owner cancelled our exchange because we filed a complaint with the BBB! Luckily the previously rude store manager did intercede to rescind the cancelled exchange. Only problem was that when my husband had called to find out about pickup they told him they were open until 9pm, but in truth you cannot pick up furniture after 5pm; of course he had arrived at 5:30pm. So my husband returned the next day, again inconveniencing a friend to help him with the furniture and loan us a truck, to get the bench, only to be given a box with an unassembled piece of furniture in it. He was so fed up at this point, he just brought it home where when opened we found an even more defective bench that is not level.....so the saga will continue but will likely end with us continuing to be mistreated and with nothing near the piece of furniture we originally believed we were purchasing. DO NOT purchase anything from this place! We purchased furniture for our new house at several different furniture stores around town and this is the only place where we have had trouble. read more

I went here with my fiance to purchase furniture for our first house (we were on a budget), but didn't see anything I liked because the quality really seemed to be lacking. The salesman followed us around and argued with me when I stated something was obviously being held together with glue. Avoid this place. We gathered our pennies and bought a very nice assortment of cool, estate sale furniture including a solid wood French Provincial bed in excellent condition and a very elaborate art-deco wood veneer dresser with attached mirror at Pelican Thrift, altogether spending about half our "new furniture" budget and ending up with more than we hoped for. read more

Purchased a living room set from this Compass furniture and the furniture that was delivered was not what quality. There was bare wood showing on the armrest (this was a Basset sofa) and the love seat that we purchased was not what we ordered. The width of the love seat was correct, but the depth and height were not correct. It was like ordering children's furniture. The love seat was about eight inches off the ground and about twenty inches deep. When I complained to the manager (Mr. Ernest), he was rude and not helpful at all. He told me that it was a special order and too bad. I asked to speak to the owner (Billy Rippner) and he wasn't any better. He said it was a special order and there was nothing he would do. When I told him that I may have to take him to small claims court, he said "go ahead, I'm also a lawyer". If he's a lawyer, what is he doing selling cheap furniture. High quality furniture and they even paid to have a small scuff on the couch repaired. I have bought furniture from many places and this was an above average experience. It blows my mind how much a business can fall in two years. My wife and I bought our first furniture together from the Elmwood from a wonderful saleswoman who helped us get an entertainment center. Delivery was prompt and trouble free. ...fast forward two years... We ordered a dining table, chairs, two couches, and bookshelves due to our prior experience and desire to support a more local business. Our sales lady, again, was good. We set up delivery with Compass to coincide with our move to Metairie and were given about a week window, which was fine. We do not expect a busy furniture company to make a specific time/date obligations. Note that we bought this furniture about two months before we even moved in to give them time to move things into the warehouse. We did find out our first option for the dining table was no longer in production. Thankfully, we had a close second. Fast forward to two days before the move. I called Compass and after some serious maneuvering and accusation of needing to call earlier found out that they did NOT have the couches or dining table. We then found out the second dining table we ordered was unavailable and had to switch to a lesser cost option. Compass made no attempt to adjust our bill, though. I guess the difference was their "service tip." We had to crunch the numbers ourselves to get the bill corrected. I inquired to delivery and was promised that they would arrive within two weeks. Fast forward another week, with the in laws arriving in few days to help unpack. I called to check on our furniture, was again given the run around, forcing me to go into the store and raise hell with the manager who seemed more interested in conversation with his sales associate than a customer. After multiple calls and inquiries into their (I kid you not) accordion folder and DOS-based filing system, they told me to expect the couches and dining table that week. The couches and bookshelf were delivered the next day, mysteriously appearing after I threatened to cancel the order and go to Ashley, two hours later than what the manager promised was the LATEST delivery (5 PM). We still had no dining table, though it was promised within the week. Still no dining table. I returned to Compass with my wife with rather negative fanfare, and a spectacular eye roll from their manager. He half offered to show us what they had on the floor while he, again, sat and schmoozed with the sales people, ignoring his customers. We saw nothing, and having enough of their pitiful customer service, asked for our money back. He shrugged and gave us a "whatever." Fast forward several months. We ended up purchasing a dining table hassle free from Ashley that arrived early. Compass continued to frustrate us, having made an accounting error with what we owed them and a third party loan company. Again, we were forced to do their math for them and solve the issue on our own. Compass' furniture store always appeared empty of shoppers and we can plainly see why. I have never in my life dealt with more poor customer service and uncaring management. I feel terrible for the delivery guys who did do their job well and efficiently and the sales people who actually tried to help. Their efforts are regularly undermined by a terrible, untrained, and incompetent accounting team and a manager who has absolutely no business doing the job he currently has. I needed a daybed and could not go into store due to an accident. Found one online. Called store, they did not have the one I wanted Sales person, Kevin, sent me photos of the ones in stock. I chose one. He helped me choose the mattress and contacted me with prices, delivery information. Even though it was late in the day, he worked to get the daybed delivered the next day. Delivery went smoothly. Delivery men were prompt, polite and helpful. The warehouse had sent the wrong spring, they called -went back to the warehouse -got the right spring, came back within a couple of hours and set up the bed. From the lady who answered the phone to the delivery, it was a good experience. I would like to express a special thank you to Kevin for all of the help he gave me so I could sleep in a bed instead of a recliner. I will definitely shop there again, and ask for him!!! read more

The salesman was very nice and helpful (Kevin) I went in to purchase a bed as I already have the dresser and etc. I shop very quickly and found 4 beds within 15 minutes that I liked, the first 2 I was told he could not sell me because they were a set as per his manager, now this would have been an automatic sale as I was willing to buy on the spot, but no could not buy. The 3 was not his fault as they had none in stock (which read below I would have waited to get if it weren't for my experience with the 4th bed). The 4th bed however.... was found at 2 other stores by me for $120.00 cheaper than they had in their store, he told me they price match so I was set to buy however he had to check with manager. After waiting a short period he came back and told me his manager made him call the store I found cheaper to see if it was in stock, it was not in stock so he could not price match. Sooooo long story short they lost out on my sale, I do not mind waiting a couple of weeks for a bed for a $120 difference. I would have gone with the 3rd bed after all of this if it was not for whoever is manager was because they were cheaper by $40.00 but I would gladly spend that $40 at the Ashley Store instead. I will not be shopping here again EVER you have lost a customer and I have bought from you in the past including living room furniture, bedroom set and mattress. So I suggest you look into your management because people are walking out the door willing to buy and are getting let down!! We ordered a sectional sofa from Compass in November 2020. They said that it would take 16-18 weeks max to get it delivered since it was a custom order, and as long as we chose materials that were in stock, there shouldn't be any delays. At week 16 we called for an update, and they basically told us they couldn't give us one until it shipped from the warehouse. We called again at 18 weeks - same story. We then called again every 2 weeks ... it has now been 38 weeks. They told us we cannot get a refund since it is a custom order. Everything is blamed on COVID... which I understand. What I cannot understand is the absence of any sort of customer service. They never called to update us one time, and are unapologetic for their lack of customer service OR the fact that we were told 18 weeks max and it has now been more than DOUBLED. The owner called us finally (after many complaints) and was the rudest person I have ever come into contact with! He said "We don't want to call and aggravate our customers with updates." HAH!!!! He also said many others things that I am choosing not to repeat. How this company is still in business with an owner like that is a true mystery!? I work with customers all day in a service industry, and I would and have never treat ANY customer the way he treated us. All I can say is that this terrible customer service will catch up to them eventually. I will never do business here ever again, and will tell everyone I know to steer clear! We were told originally (by many people) to go to Comeaux furniture, and we should have listened. We learned a hard lesson, but will make sure no one else does. *The only POSITIVE thing I can say is that when they finally delivered it at 38 weeks, the 2 delivery guys were extremely friendly and professional. Was a huge fan of compass prior to Katrina, my ex husband and I furnished our entire home just about with their used to be quality furniture. Well, if you have an issue or your product is damaged don't expect Lou to be true. His sales guy is a liar and and the bed I purchased $1500+ was damaged upon arrival and Lou himself called not to make things right but, to side with the liar. He was very arrogant and unprofessional ..... So, everyone that I sent as customers, and it was a huge list have decided to remove their business elsewhere. I would rather purchase from a rent a center than to set foot here, or spend another dime with his shady company. ........ The delivery guys were great! Stay away from this place if you have taste or a shred of integrity . I'm only giving one star to acknowledge my sales persons efforts and the pleasant lady at the front desk who answers the phone . I ordered what I thought was the perfect affordable sofa for my family and was very pleased when it arrived . I bought this sofa bc the color and texture was perfect and that is it . I looked at several other retailers and chose compass bc it offered the upholstery I wanted . To make a long story short, 3 weeks later I noticed a seam ripped open and called to voice my complaint . Less than s week after that I noticed a throw pillow seam torn and then inspected the whole sofa for more torn seams and boy did I find more . So many that I knew I had a majorly defected product . The manager asked me to pick new fabric and I told him there was no other I was interested in . I then waited to speak to Mr Lou Ripner himself and was horrified by his arrogance and unprofessionalism . He refused to give me my money back and then retracted the original offer to replace the sofa with different upholstery to allowing me only one option of REPLACING THE SAME DEFECTIVE FABRIC TO THE CUSHIONS ONLY ! What a DOUCHE !!! My lawyer is now handling this for me . Run from this place . The owner is not a fair man nor is he practicing good business . I feel sorry for his hardworking employees and past , current and future victims . Do yourself a favor and just go anywhere but here . review White B. Metairie, LA 7/20/2010 I recently moved to New Orleans from the west coast and a relative suggested Compass Furniture in Metairie to purchase new furniture. The recommendation came as a result of years of shopping at Compass and purchasing thousands $$$ of dollars of goods. Unfortunately this was the worst shopping experience I've EVER had in my life. What made matters worse is the fact that I'm a 30 year veteran in the retail industry and found their service deplorable. I purchased well over $2000.00 (CASH) worth of furniture, only to arrive the next day to pick up the rest of my purchase and be met by the owner who for no reason at all called me a thief and took my receipt. The owner not only refused to return my receipt but refused to give me the merchandise I purchased. I HAVE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS IN MY LIFE! I was shocked, my relative was in awe, the employees were parolized witnessing the fiasco and I was hyperventilating. Being an experience retail manager of a well known global big box retailer, I knew to calm down and let the authorities handle the situation. I asked the employees to call the police and the owner (Billy) instructed them aggressively not too. I didn't have my phone with me so I used my relative's cell to call 911. The police arrived and I explained the entire situation to them. They met with the owner privately and returned with my receipt. They instructed me to leave the premises after the owner refunded my purchase. I am soooooooooo disappointed and utterly appauled that this matter will not go unresolved. NO business should ever treat a customer this way and this one WILL learn a huge lesson when I'm done. MY ADIVCE = NEVER SHOP HERE AND TELL ALL YOUR FRIENDS, FAMILY AND COLLEAGUES NOT TOO AS WELL. 2 years ago I purchased a mattress which was defective. After one month of sleeping on the Serta it began to sink. I went back n forth for months until Compass agreed to exchange it minus the value. Well, I decided to purchase another Serta from this store. Low & behold, after sleeping on the mattress for two weeks, it began to sink. I called Compass they sent a man out to examine the mattress who clearly saw the mattress dipping on both sides. A day later I received a call from a manager saying Compass wasn't honoring my warranty saying there was stains on it. I stated to him that I had a double layered mattress cover. I told him he needs to point out the stains & of course he said he wouldn't. Today I'm writing because my newborn almost rolled off this mattress twice. I'm feed up with the quality of Compass/Serta product & I believe I should warn other parents. New Orleans is extremely hot & if Compass is storing Mattresses in a hot warehouse it could damage the Mattress coils to the point they becomes defective. If you are ever in need of furnitures, dont go here. I waited to long for NOTHING! Groupon recently had a great deal, you pay $50 & get to spend $100 at compass furniture. My boyfriend and I was in need of a new dresser so we decided to go there. The sales rep was extremely helpful and kind. He told us that our dressers will be in apporoximately 2-3 weeks and that they will call us immediately as it was in. 2 weeks had passed, so we decided to call and check up on our dressers. IT STILL WASNT IN. A week or two later we got a call and say one of the dressers were in, when we purchased two on that day! I also received a postcard saying its in and call to let them know when we were coming to pick it up. As my boyfriend took off of work ( i was desperate for a dresser) to pick one of the dressers up it was no where to be found! The man comp us and said that they were going to ship our dresses with free shipping. 3 days later the OWNER himself, called and said they will not ship the furniture for free,ETC... If I could rate this store lower, I certainly would. I purchased for my father a reclining lift chair and an extended warranty for my father and approximately 6 weeks later the chair stopped working. The store sent someone out to take a look at the chair and determined the motor was burnt up. I called the next day since I had not heard from anyone and they informed they had ordered another motor. I explained that this was unacceptable after 2 months and that I wanted them to deliver a new chair. I spoke to Ernest/Thomas and he stated the chair was a floor model and that I signed the invoice stating it was a floor model which negated the store warranty. I spoke to Billy the owner and explained that I did not recall being told the chair was a floor model however I did know the loveseat I purchased on the same night was a floor sample. I told him I would need to look at the invoice to determine if I did in fact purchase a floor sample. He explained to me that he wanted to look at the receipt to determine if I was lying.....lying about what????? I point blank said I didn't recall that but I would look at the receipt. I feel in all HONESTY that I was taken advantage of by the store. I explained the sense or urgency to get the furniture since my father had lost his home and all furnishings in the flood. THEY knew I was in a hurry and trying to make quick decisions. IT WAS NEVER clearly indicated to me that by purchasing the floor model that it would NOT be warranted. I have argued with the store until I am blue in the face with nothing but an INVITATION from the OWNER to not step foot in his store again. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. I am filing a claim with the Better Business Bureau and Mr. Rippner I will see you in Small Claims court. The manager and staff were not helpful at all. They tried to deliver my bedroom set to the wrong address (I have no clue why).The manager had the nerve to have a nasty attitude because I wanted my delivery fee back because my furniture was not delivered to my home. The lady who in charge of inputting information obviously does not know what she is doing and needs to find a new job! NO, this place needs to clean house and start over! read more

I was worried because of the other bad reviews.but after looking for months all over town they had what I wanted.. so I thought its not a special order all they gotta do is get the simmons loveseat and couch with manual recliners to my house undamaged..so I payed half at the store and half on delivery cash.no damage.it came at noon when I asked for early delivery.the delivery men were very nice and and helped me with my old heavy couches that were being replaced. I guess the best part of this was the delivery men goin the extra mile and being helpful when it wasn't there job to mess with my old heavy stuff.my couches were even $40 cheaper than on the tag. read more

This has been a terrible experience. Bought a $1800 sofa and although I love the look, the fabric continues to ball up and go bald on the arm. They have replaced the arm 2xs and it keep happening. Not to mention they were extremely late in delivery and then the order was wrong!!! The manager is rude and the owner although attentive does not take responsibility for the quality of their products. I requested they allow me to order another with better fabric because this fabric is clearly flawed. The owner denied that there could be an issue with it but has now replaced the arm several times in only a few month span. If nothing is wrong, why does it keep happening! read more

I spent 2000.00 on Young American furniture by Stanley. 2 yr later the drawer doesn't close properly and i called customer service for repair. the manager gets into a shouting match with me over the warranty and that this conversation is over. poor customer service, abrasive manner and does not stand behind their product. i really do not know how the have any customers after speaking with Ernest and Billy read more

I ordered a sectional on Saturday (at a good price). Staff was helpful without being pushy and let me browse at my own leisure. Furniture arrived about 3 days after ordering as was promised. I assumed that there would be delay due to the multiple tornadoes in the area on that day but furniture still arrived as scheduled. Quality of sectional so far is good. Arrived in excellent condition. Time will tell, I guess. Our delivery men, Donald and Nelson, were AWESOME. They were professional, kind and courteous. They went above and beyond by setting up the cushions, throw pillows, removing all packaging, etc. So far I am very pleased.. read more

I bought a sofa 4 weeks ago and was told to call Humanitys to pick up the old one. I called 4 times with no return call. I call the store back & told him what happened which he did not believe me. I asked if the guys would take out the old one & I would pay them. He was so nasty & his tone. I wanted a bed in a month. That won't there. I will be going some where else. read more
