I booked yet another cruise with Dave at CompanionShips, this one for last month (January 2023). This is the 7th cruise booked with him since 2013--even after not cruising for 4 full years largely due to the pandemic. In every instance, Dave has gone well beyond the extra-mile to help me, and my often large group of cruisers, in getting the exact cabins we each wanted at the best prices. And he spent a great deal of time to address all of our miscellaneous questions, including directly contacting the cruiseline to sort out problems that they created. He is always helpful, and his knowledge, experience and insight to cruising is very valuable when trying to choose specific cruise lines, ships, cabins, itineraries, and etc. Even though I have been back less than two weeks from my last CompanionShips cruise, I am already looking forward to my next cruise, when I will definitely be booking it with Dave/CompanionShips. read more

Awful customer service! Dave is very friendly with you to book the cruise, but is not in any way helpful or responsive in fixing an after-booking problem in a timely manner, despite multiple requests by email and phone. If you are ever approached by anyone giving or selling you a cruise by the company name "Companion Ships, Inc.", run away from it as fast you can. I have been trying to get a cruise booked through them because i received it as gift certificate from a company named "celebrity china & crystal" out of Lenexa, KS and it has been nothing but excused of , " we have not received your emails, or yea we will call you back" since April of 2011, it is now about to be July of 2011 and they are still not keeping to their promise and the cruise line prices keep going up. So Just watch out if anyone ever gives or sells you a certificate good for a year to be cashed in. IT WILL take you that long just to get them to give you look your way. We booked a multi generational cruise for 2019, a couple of the bookings were handled through Companion Ships and I received nothing but excellent customer service. Can Not Find a Better Price/ Great Customer Service I found a 'Great Deal' through cruise compete website with this company. This is a family owned business and they treat you just like a good family would. No one could beat their price, not even Carnival Cruise. I called my agent at Carnival Cruise, who I have used in the past and she was not able to match or beat the deal that they offered. I was able to get other perks at no additional cost. I booked my cruise, hotel, and transportation to the port through them. Everything went smoothly, there was no issues with any of the arrangements, which made my vacation stress-free. I highly recommend this agency. I plan to use them for my class reunion trip next year. read more

I have booked multiple cruises with them over the past 5 years. From to Dave, his wife, and kids all great people. They do a AWESOME job on finding the best deal to include extras. They do not harass. You can understand them on the phone. Always gets back with you. The very first time booking was a tad nervous since there was no website. My husband and I have booked with Dave Somma, the owner of CompanionShips twice now and have been very happy with him meeting or exceeding other cruiseline or travel agency pricing. I was a bit nervous at first since this agency doesn't have an actual website which seemed sketchy, but was told since it's a family run business they don't feel the need for one and with all the cruises they do from referrals from other customers/word of mouth, they don't need one. We did receive our reservation number with both the cruiselines we have booked through him right away and access to the cruiselines including emails from the cruiselines right away, so clearly there were no glitches. The first cruise was completed Jan. 2018 without any issues, the other later this year. read more

I want to alter my review as I was very upset over the transportation company that took us to the ship. Dave the owner wrote me a very sincere letter and I do have to advise anyone looking for a good deal on a cruise, Dave will work to find it. I cannot fault the cruise or the deal he gave us. I just cautioned him about recommending any transportation company other than the ones connected directly with the cruise lines. I will probably try to book through Dave again, however I will be sure to be careful about my transportation to the ship. He is a hard working owner and it isn't a big assembly line cruise company and there is something rare and special about that. My husband and I were very emotional about that terrible transportation company in Alaska and we truly were frightened being in the vehicle they sent and also with the driver who just picked up the job the night before. The cruise overshadowed that difficulty so I would surely give this company a chance. Personally I did not like dealing with the big companies whatsoever. read more

Just like the previous reviewer, we received a very competitive quote from CompanionShips and when I called them, Dave booked the cruise for us. We needed two staterooms for a family of six and Dave was very knowledgeable about where exactly we should reserve the rooms to have the best sleeping arrangements. Dave was fantastic! We received his information as a gift certificate from Celebrity China, and we had been in contact off and on with CompanionShips for roughly a year. We purchased the cruise, the excursions, and the transportation through Dave. As a result, when the weather forced a cancellation of our flight Dave was able to contact our Carnival Cruise ship and they waited for over an hour for us to arrive on a later flight. Dave went far above and beyond what was necessary and we are very happy! We hope to use him again soon! read more

I have been booking with CompanionShips since 2010 and have always had great service. Dave is a true cruise professional. He and his wife and 2 sons all work the business and make sure what you want is what you get. His prices are great and will work to make sure you the least expensive price for the best cabin possible for the price. The very best way to get hold of him is through a phone call. Anyone that texts knows that email and texting is not the way to conduct business. I know that even when I talk with my kids that I can get more accomplished in 2 minutes on the phone than I can in 30 minutes through email or text. So if you want to get pricing or book a cruise, definitely call. If he can not talk to you at that time, because he is on another line, usually Pam, his wife, will take your number and he will call back. He will let you know the info he needs to book the cruise and take care of it for you. I tried to book a cruise with them after receiving a quote on cruise compete only to have them not honor it. Kept saying mistakes get made, well if you are in business then you check your figures before sending them out. Quotes should be honored. read more

I have booked with Dave, of CompanionShips, for my past 7 cruises, since 2012. He is a busy man, which to me says he has a great business and lots of clients, and that is a good thing. But he is also very responsive. In many cases I will call and his wife, Pam, will answer. If it is something that I need to talk with him immediately I will let her know and he will get to me within a minute or so, but most times it is something that I just need a minor change and time is not a big problem with the question or change and he will take care of it within 24 hours and either call me or email me. The first time I needed a change to something I called and Pam answered and said Dave was on the phone with someone else. I told her what the problem was and she said she would let him know and he would get back with me. I thought that was a little strange, but "went with it". It wasn't something that had to be done immediately but being an American I wanted it "right this second". Dave took care of the change by close of business that day, emailed me the changes and all was good. If I see a reduction in price or perks on the cruise line website I contact him and if it is a reduction he will make the changes and I get the reduced price. I just tell him what it is and he looks it up, has to contact the cruise line and the change is made. I have talked to him a number of times over the past almost 6 years and he is very straight forward, he lets you know what he needs to know for a booking or change and gives a very good price, compared to booking direct with a cruise line. He specializes in wedding travel arraignments and I recommended him to one of my nephews and his fiancé and they booked a honeymoon to Hawaii and couldn't commend him more for how he handled it.
