PASSED! $35 including certificate. My smog check was 5 months overdue because I just didn't think it would pass, and couldn't afford major repairs right now. Got one of those annoying coupons stuck in my windshield at Walmart but this one was a keeper -- smog test, $35 including certificate, and 2 blocks away from where I live. Oh yeah, the clincher: TEST ONLY STATION and PASS OR DON'T PAY. Which means you're not obligated to have them "tune up" the car in order to pass. Here, which the DMV required anyway, is a test only station, which meant if I didn't pass I really didn't pay. At least I would know what needed to be fixed and hopefully my backyard mechanic could take care of it cheap. Well, much to my delight, my old 1996 Jeep Cherokee PASSED. Julio, the owner, was no-nonsense--just had me fill out the paperwork while he did the test, and I think the only other words he said to me were "wait a couple minutes" while the transaction occured to submit the passing grade to the DMV automatically. Handed him $35 and drove off with a fully registered car. (I had paid the registration when due, 5 months earlier, which saves all the penalties, even if the smog test isn't done yet. I'll get my stickers in the mail.) Since then I've seen other smog check coupons for $29.75 but just for fun I called and asked the total -- $58! with certificate and being a Jeep and all that bullshit. Just go to El Compa and get it done quickly, efficiently, cheaply. I am truly impressed. read more
