The providers are experienced and always kept me informed about the side effects and reasons for medication changes, and treated me as an equal so that I never felt like I was being treated like a child. The counseling side of things is where I drew the line and reconsidered if I would go back. Their intake person (Linda, at the time of my appointment) is the one that initially sees you and decides which counselor would be the best fit for you. I was with her for no more than 20 minutes when she told me that I was a bitch, continued to reiterate the fact that I was a bitch, then told me that I could change my personality to make people listen to me and do what I want (manipulation tactics, I guess). I was there because I had lost a lot of family members to suicide in the past few months and was trying to cope with that and the collapse of some other personal relationships. I'm still trying to figure out what happened at that appointment. I waited a few months and opted to not go back for any appointments, and am looking for a new provider for my medications.

My Experience with St. Mary's Health System…read more When my psychiatrist and I had terminated our relationship, I asked my primary care doctor if he could refill my current prescriptions until I could find another psychiatrist. After 5 back and forth phone calls to St. Mary's and multiple trips to CVS, I was told that my doctor was "not comfortable" filling out one of my 4 current prescriptions. The odd thing was that the one prescription he denied filling was nearly identical in it's usage as another he did feel comfortable filling. I did not ask for a 90 day supply, only a month's worth of the same prescriptions I had already been taking. These medications were in my chart when I had seen him a few months earlier. I even went to CVS and signed a release to give him my current Rx records. Now I have to hope that I can find a psychiatrist that will see me on short notice or risk having to go to urgent care or the emergency room should my body suffer as a result of not having my medications. I would not recommend this system to anyone I cared about. (Full Disclosure: I gave it 2 stars because my father and brother both see their PCP here and have had mostly positive experiences.)
