CommuniKids is a full service speech-language & occupational therapy practice. Our sister location can be found in the Upper West Side of Manhattan.
Specializing in all areas that effect the pediatric population, CommuniKids' team of speech therapists each have advanced training in articulation remediation, expressive and receptive language expansion, oral-motor strengthening, feeding issues, stuttering and social skills.
Our occupational therapists are highly trained in addressing fine motor, gross motor, ocular motor and sensory integration issues.
As a multi-disciplinary practice, we collaborate both internally and externally to assist children with speech, language and motor delays as well as autistic spectrum, attention deficit, auditory processing and sensory processing disorders.
Because of this we are uniquely positioned to provide co-treatments and back-to-back sessions for our clients in need of multiple therapies.
History
Established in 1998.
The Summit office first began seeing clients when Clinical Director, Rachel Fisch-Kaplan, moved to New Jersey in 2001.
In 2007, occupational therapy services were added to the New Jersey practice when Laura Martucci was asked to join the organization after providing remarkable therapy for Rachel's own daughter. Soon there after, the name CommuniKids was established and Rachel and Laura began to hand pick, train and mentor an exceptional team of therapists to work alongside them in our treatment rooms and sensory gyms.
In 2011, after 13 years of residency in subterranean medical office space, the New York office moved to its current sunny and friendly office on West 79th Street. Renamed CommuniKids NY, the new space has allowed us to mirror the success of our Summit location and in January 2012, occupational therapy services were added to our scope of practice in Manhattan as well.
Meet the Business Owner: Rachel Fisch-Kaplan, M. S.
With 20 years of experience, Rachel is responsible for the clinical supervision of therapists, as well as providing both therapeutic and diagnostic services for children with articulation concerns, oral motor/feeding deficits, receptive/expressive/pragmatic language delays, dysfluency, cleft palate/lip issues and autistic spectrum disorders.
She has professional affiliations with ASHA, the NY Speech-Language and Hearing Association, the NYC Speech Language and Hearing Association, the NJ Speech Language Hearing Association and is a teacher of the Speech and Hearing Learning Disabled.
Rachel holds degrees from Columbia University and the University of Maryland and specializes in dealing with the unique needs of children from birth to 15 years of age.
She has special training in oral-motor/feeding therapy, craniofacial/deep tissue release, augmentative communication, sensory integration therapy, PROMPT, and Greenspan's Floor Time approach to autistic spectrum disorders.
