I'm sorry but I feel compelled to write this review. After a lot of research and referrals from…read moreothers, I was between Derek and another woman and decided to go with Derek due to his reputation and the reviews on here. That was a year ago. I got really into everything he was selling. He seemed very enthusiastic about helping me and I bought into it hook line and sinker. I bought the products, supplements, additional sessions, etc. I even read the books and saw the movies he recommended to better understand food and how it works in our bodies. Unfortunately, half way thru our sessions (so after 3 sessions), we both got frustrated that I was not losing any weight. Derek suggested that I go to his "doctor"...which happened to be the other woman I was considering and is NOT a real doctor. (I'll leave her name out of it because I never met her but I researched her through medical boards via other doctors and she is not properly credentialed). So I told Derek this and then never heard from him again. Again, this was a year ago. I was hoping maybe at the end of the year there would be follow up to check in and see if there was interest in working together but there wasn't. So that in turn left me uninterested as well. However, I am disappointed that I lost money on 3 unused sessions but honestly the way this all played out made me not want to call and argue for my money back. So if you are planning on going just beware. Their intentions are not always as straightforward as they may seem.

I have to admit, New Metabolism kinda changed my life…read more I came in last year in a bad state. Bloated and feeling fatigued and blah, I needed help and needed help bad. I thought I would come in for some education on eating. Boy, did I get so much more than that. Derek Johnson is the Nutritionist at New Metabolism. He starts you off with a 9 week program complete with a full metabolic exam, blood sugar exam and so on. Once you take the exams, he figures out your deficiencies and puts you on a supplement plan if need be. Then each week, he checks everything from body fat percentage, your eating plan, your sleep and energy levels. Based on what you tell him, he adjusts the plan as necessary. It turned out I was suffering from high blood sugar, a big vitamin B deficiency, Seratonin deficiency and adrenal fatigue. And after a few months of taking different supplements, my life is like night and day. All my friends say I look better, I'm trimmer, I sleep like a baby and I don't crash out after 1pm. I handle stress better and my mind feels alot sharper. The 9 week package may be a bit pricey for some people but totally worth it. He is also extremely professional from the materials he produces, his advice and meetings. He's extremely approachable and almost all of his clients are from positive word of mouth. He is very organized and punctual and flexible to meet with you anywhere - in person, Skype, or the phone. He really cares about your health and is happy to answer any questions you may have. A year later I still check in with him almost monthly and I always come away from my appointments learning more than the last appointment. If you're looking for a legit nutritionist (not someone who hands you a bottle of fish oil supplements and sends you off), go see Derek. You will not be disappointed!

I have been on a quest for health for the last 20 years. This search has taken me through all of…read morethe diets and listening to all the health gurus. I went vegetarian, vegan and then raw vegan. I did the liver cleanse, kidney cleanse, spleen cleanse and on and on it went. I did a 10-day Master cleanse and lost 15 pounds of muscle. I did a water cleanse where all I did was drink water. The more cleanses I tried, it seemed the worse I felt. I went up and down in weight and still continued to feel progressively less healthy. The culmination of my obsession was going raw vegan for a year in which my diet consisted of a fruit smoothie in the morning and a green smoothie at night. My raw vegan diet ended with me having a full-out breakdown in the produce section at Whole Foods. I was muscle testing a lemon and I spontaneously broke into tears. I dropped the lemon, walked directly back to the meat counter and bought a filet mignon. That was the end of my raw vegan days. I was confused. I felt drained. I had no energy. I started having a hard time remembering things. I was depressed and I was seriously stressed out! I now realize that I had gotten to a place of resignation about life. I knew I was dying and I had become ok with it. After all of this "running the hamster wheel", I found out about the hair mineral analysis through a nutritionist friend of mine. Believing that I was an expert on all things health, I was really surprised that I had never heard of this process. I met Eva Vennari at S.E.L.F. Nutrition and she gave me an overview of the hair mineral analysis and nutritional balancing program. I learned how mineral ratios in the body reveal how the body responds to stress. She also described how the body compensates for the low mineral ratio by holding onto toxic metals like copper, aluminum and mercury which seriously damage the body. Eva explained how balancing the minerals in my body would allow me to get rid of the toxic metals, get my energy back and be more relaxed. It was really easy to do the test. Eva sent me a hair test kit. I cut off a few hairs, put them in an envelope and sent them to the lab. My results came back in a week along with a very detailed interpretation from Eva during my one hour consultation on the test results and plan of action. That phone call changed my life. I finally know the truth. I learned that I am a slow oxidizer, which means I metabolized my food slower than what my body requires for optimal energy levels to perform basic body functions. I learned that I am in adrenal and thyroid burnout because my digestion was poor. Now I understood why I had been feeling fatigue, sugar cravings, low body temperature, irritability and depression. The other thing that really alarmed me was that I was in the most dangerous, 3rd stage of stress - the exhaustion stage. This occurs when the body no longer has the energy to contain the stress and is in a holding pattern to prevent further decline in health. It was also no surprise that I was very high in copper, aluminum and dangerously high in mercury. My body was at the beginning stages of the death spiral. Eva assured me that these conditions are common for many people in our stressed-out culture today. She explained that with some basic lifestyle modifications and fortifying the body with some essential vitamins and minerals, I would gradually be feeling better and have more energy. Now that I am on the program, I am experiencing way higher levels of energy. I am feeling more vitality and more relaxed. I am sleeping better and being nicer to people. I am finding it easier to deal with normal every day life. I used to be afraid that I was dying and that there was nothing I could do about it. Now I know that it is up to me and I have a program to follow that will bring my body into balance and have me able to live life the way I want to. I highly recommend calling Eva and getting the hair test done so that you know the truth - the science of what is happening in your body so that you can do the things that will actually improve your health!
