Looked for a nearby park so my dog can go potty and this place showed up! There's a separate dog park area but honestly it does not look that great. There's foxtail weeds against the gate which can be dangerous for dogs if inhaled or stuck between their paws. The park is pretty nice and spacious with lots of nice clean grass for dogs to play around in. Lots of doggie bags for those that don't have which is convenient. The play structures seem super fun as well. If I were a kid, I'd enjoy the playground a lot. read more

A smaller park in San Bruno that is not as trafficked as the main park with still plenty of equipment available to get your toddlers to burn their energy off. Their main play area is structured as a giant boat and my son always had a good time climbing up it and going down the slide. If you cross a small hill, there are swings and other play structures available. There is a basefield field located right next door although I've never been here when there was anyone actually utilizing it. It's more common to see people walking their dogs in this area. There is also a public bathroom conveniently located right next to the park which is kept relatively well maintained. read more

Cleanliness Park is clean and well maintained. There are even some trees to provide shade in summer. For Kids The playground is nice. Couple of nice swings for all age groups. For Adults Park near playground is good to run. But the rest near court is not. Wouldn't recommend this for running. Although it can be perfect for a picnic with kids. Plenty of benches to sit and have a nice outdoor meal (Covid precaution). Parking There is parking for 12-15 cars which is generally not full. And even if it is - there is plenty on the roadside to park. Covid precautions Everyone is required to wear mask. They even have a sign which says the same. Restrooms are closed for now. Overall a small cozy park. Good greenery , fun for kids , clean and well maintained. Would specially recommend San Bruno area residents to check it out. read more

This place is a sweet little park for any age. You can bring your kids and have them enjoy the really cool ship themed playground or you can get all your buddies together for a game of volleyball and a cool picnic. There is also a baseball diamond for your kids to get some practice swings in. Park is clean and very convenient to the 280 and 101 freeways. You also have the bay hill shopping center a few blocks away and Target for a close last minute picnic shopping haul just in case you forgot any picnic essentials. All in all this is a 3 star park you don't have pools or basketball courts. But you do get a dog park and a little walking trail were you can get your steps in. Parking is good and bathroom are on the cleaner side. I would definitely come check it out. read more

This is such a nice little park tucked away in San Bruno I'm sure not many people know about as I've never seen it overly busy. It has all you need for a lazy family day. The children's play area is a decent size with swings, slide, jungle gym ect with a Volleyball pit next to it and a small Picnic area which consists of 4 tables. Further set back from the road there is also a Baseball field and Dog Park. Not having a dog I've never used the area so can't comment on all of the negative reviews but I will say is the area always seems to be pretty quiet. There is also plenty of parking space nearby. Oh... and big scary ass birds! If you're taking a picnic then be prepared to have them come looking for food! They are harmless though... just scary big. read more

Tiny park with a tiny dog park located behind my apartment. The playground is nice. Although it's for kids but I guess the swings are also for adults. For runners, part of the road in the park is well paved and very comfortable to run on. However, others are absolutely terrible! If you want to practice running on uneven dirt road, go for it. I used the address on Yelp to try to get here and it led me around the craziest way ever. I ended up driving for 15 mins when I could've gotten here in 10 so watch out and do NOT use the address on here. Just go to the park near Bayhill Shopping Center, take a turn to get on the street next to the park and go all the way down and you'll see the park on your right. The park itself is decent. It's much greener than the dog park in San Mateo which I was a fan of, and they do have a separate area for big dogs and small dogs. The gate between the two area last can be opened and closed and a lady told me that there's usually no problems here and everyone's friendly so I'll take her word for it. My dog seemed to enjoy the open space. There's a water bowl near the entrance as well as poop bags and a water fountain. A couple benches as well so I think overall this area is good for dogs. read more

I like it because it has picnic tables and plenty of trees for shade. Unlike Centennial Way Dog Park which has no shade nor seating, but much cleaner. I love Commodore Dog Park! This is our regular dog park for my dog. She loves to come here - all the patrons are regulars and have friendly dogs. The park itself is divided into two sections, with a gate that you can open and shut in case small doggies need to be on one side and big doggies need to be in the other. There is a watering station with some water bowls and plenty of poop bags that are restocked on the regular, it's rare that I've ever seen it empty. The benches and picnic tables are a nice touch. You will on occasion be unable to park on weekends since its right next to a playground and baseball diamond but I don't have too many issues. I only wish that the city would install lights here - in the winter when it gets dark early I don't want to bring my dog because we can't see a thing. Hopefully they will do us all a solid and install lights soon. read more

I attended a birthday party here and it was a BEEEEautiful day for a picnic in the park. I didn't see the dog exercise area nor did I venture off anywhere past where my eyes could see because I was too busy enjoying the weather laying on a blanket in the grass. Maybe it's because we were located at the very end in seclusion but I did note the following: Picnic area for my niece's birthday was in it's own private area and didn't have to deal with uninvited people wandering into our site yet close enough to enjoy other park amenities A large tree perfect to hang the pinata! A large sand area where my toddler played with toys and had the time of his life A water fountain nearby where my other son filled up water guns yet had enough open space to have a water fight with other big kids and not get into the way of anyone Clean bathroom shack nearby Lots of street parking I didn't get to see the dog exercise area and we kept the dog within our individual picnic area but maybe next time we'll check out. Lots of people BBQing, there were 3 different groups that were BBQing, I was in one group. While the adults BBQed...the kids played football on the grass, played on the play structure, beach volleyballed on the sand, climbed Mount Everest (insert pic)... I don't know how it's a dog park, I didn't see any dogs, only people. I guess the grassy area where we played kickback was the doggy area. I saw an ice cream truck, yes a truck & not a cart, I haven't seen one in years. That was really cool. It didn't stay for very long though. We held my son's 3rd birthday here and I actually really like it. The play structure is big enough that with the other kids it didn't get overwhelming. The picnic areas were large enough for no one to feel like they were competing or merging with another party. Big grassy area and a volleyball sand court. I recommend this spot, and you can have alcohol if you so desire. The bathroom was okay as well not the typical disgusting public/park restroom. read more

The good: Clean play areas for tots (i.e. no dog poops), newish equipment, easy parking, near Bayhill Shopping Center, trees. The bad: not enclosed, and the cars on Cherry drive fast right up to the stop sign at Commodore; constant 380 Freeway noise; small. The ugly: none so far. On my way to Mollie Stone's, I brought the little dictator here, and we messed around the swings, bouncy platforms, sand, etc. for an hour. Today was really an off day with the fog and gusty wind, but we had fun here. The park was way smaller than I was led to believe by San Bruno city's descriptions! 4 stars for the human park. Good parking, convenient location, fairly well maintained. There is a big playground, swings and baby swings. Lots of picnic tables, baseball field and a great view of planes taking off without being too loud. There's a paved walking path that could really use some TLC, it's very cracked and bumpy in some places. My toddler falls a lot if we walk there, so we don't. The freeway being right there is kind of a turn off. read more

It is great weekday park stop - day or evening, but not my fave on the weekend b/c it is VERY popular for parties and therefore BUSY with big kids that often run amuck and over smaller kids. This park has 2 areas that can be sectioned off by anyone who chooses to open or close a gate. It's small, gets really muddy when it rains, and can get crowded really quick. There is a group of people that seem to meet there regularly and some of their dogs are not the friendliest. Also, even though poop bags are provided, there is always a lot of poop all over the place. I don't get it. If you go there and it's empty, it's not so bad. Otherwise, I'd drive down a couple of blocks and go to Commodore Dog Park. read more

Ugh. Let me put it this way - I will gladly risk being cited for having my dog in any other San Bruno park than bringing her back here. (Technically, all San Bruno parks prohibit dogs from even being in the park, with the exception of this one.) The dog park is fully enclosed and large enough to get some good distance with a tennis ball launcher and there were plenty of tennis balls already in the park. And it looked like bags were provided, there were water fountains within the dog park, and a good number of parking spots right next to the entrance of the dog park. BUT... The dog park has 2 fenced sections, but when I came, the gate between the 2 sections was fully open so dogs could run in between both. Good thing there were only large dogs at the park at that time - not sure if there is "officially" a small and large dog section. The dog park is poorly maintained, with patches of grass spread throughout. There was a large, muddy section in the center of the right sided section that left all tennis balls filthy, so leave your nice clean balls/toys in the car. I saw several "piles" which had clearly been left for a while, as it was obvious that some unfortunate people had stepped in them. The park does have trees, which provide a good amount of shade during hot days, but I would not want my dog laying down in this park. There are much better options for dog parks in the Bay Area. It's a shame that this is the best that the City of San Bruno can do for its dog owners, especially given that this is the only option available for dogs. read more

Dog friendly: Of course! It's a dog park. I like the greenery here. However, some dog's humans are less than conscientious about cleaning up after a dog. The trees provide nice shade. This is much better than the Pacifica Dog Park. read more

This is a small dog park with a section for small dogs and a section for large dogs. The time I went, the gate between the small and large dog section was open to make one bigger park. There was a water fountain for the dogs and some poop bags but thats about it. There were trees as well to provide a bit of shade which may be helpful in the summer. read more

After reading most of the reviews I noticed that it was all about the dog park. But the BBQ area has everything you need to have an awesome party. My favorite thing is the volleyball net complete with sand. The only downfall is the huge tree next to it. So sometimes the ball would get stuck up there. The BBQ pits were clean and large enough to accomodate all the food we were BBQing. The tables were clean and there's even a little post that displays the name that you reserved it under. Plenty of grass area for activities and a play structure for the kids. I'll probably book a spot this summer! read more

PROS: lots of grass....first aid kit on site....clean water for dogs...shady....two benches and lots of patio chairs people brought in CONS: not the largest, not the smallest either...people in this area seem to think it's okay to bring aggressive dogs....i have gone here occasionally and have seen more altercations than at other parks... my advice is to not avoid this place at all...but DO watch your dogs closely and leave if you sense an aggressive dog that is stirring up the place...don't wait for a fight to break out and it does no good to ask the owner of an aggressive dog to leave...it's better to cut your time short than to risk it in my opinion...use your intuition i usually take a book to read when i go to dog parks, but i don't here so that i can keep an eye on all the dogs and hopefully sense trouble before it starts read more

Do NOT come to this dog park. My friend and I got BIT. Patrons here bring unstable, aggressive dogs and do nothing to control them. I brought my dog here and it was okay until my friend came to play with my dog (minus the owner stinking up the small dog park with his smoking). My friend walks to the gate and the dogs are going ballistic barking at her, which is usual at a dog park and almost always subsides once you enter the dog park, but as she tries to walk in, one bigger dog with her hackles up completely blocks her, but the gate is halfway closed behind her so she's stuck. She knows a bit about dogs, so she looks away from the dog, trying not to challenge it, and the dog walks forward and bites her HARD on her thigh. She yells that she's been bitten, and the owner was just like "Oh" and weakly tries to call his dog. The dog is still aggressively approaching my friend so i take a stick and am trying to move the dog back when ANOTHER DOG comes up behind me and BITES MY ANKLE. Again, NOTHING from the owners, as we are yelling that their dogs are biting. My friend manages to get out and I grab my dog and leave the park. Once we're safely in the inlet, still nothing from the owners. All the owners are old men and women just sitting and watching this horrible behavior. As we're leaving, another owner and his dog go in and the same vicious dog attacks him and his dog, twice. He's yelling and again, nothing from the owners. Everyone is just watching. Never returning. I've been here 2 times and it was weird both times. The first time I went here, I went with my BF. We liked how close this place is to our house and how there is a playground at walking distance so we can bring our nieces and nephews to play and see the dogs. Too bad this dog park had weirdos. The first bad experience was the first time we went. Our dog is playful and sometimes when he's extra excited he likes to mount other dogs. Some dogs don't like being mounted so they rear up, or run away.. when that happens, my Bubs stops and doesn't pursue OR we tell him to stop if he's being a nuisance. Dogs mount and it's in their nature but I guess some people (perverts in my opinion) get all uncomfortable around it. Bubs was playing with a Scottie and started humping him. The Scottie wasn't upset and would even back into my dog for more rounds. Apparently the Scotties mommy wasn't paying attention for a while and when she finally realized what was going on, she swooped up her dog, scrunched up her face, and exclaimed "I don't want other dogs penis' on my dog's back" and left. MIND YOU they had been going at it for at least 10-15 minutes before she got off her phone to realize. It was comforting that the other dog owners chuckled at her departure and mentioned commented on how her dog was enjoying it. OK so first time, we offended someone, but it wasn't really our fault... next time be aware. The second time I went, I went alone. It was a busier time and there were tons of dogs and tons of dog owners. You can tell when people are regulars because they all hang out and chitchat. I tend to be friendly and say hi, but I don't like to congregate with all the owners. Some of them try to act like it's their turf because they're regulars and boss people around and I felt that the last time I went. I have a huge pet peeve about people not picking up after their dogs.. whether it is on the sidewalk, in a yard, or at the dog park. PICK UP AFTER YOUR DOG. But when I bring my dog to the dog park and I haven't had a chance to pick up after him, DO NOT come at me telling me i need to clean up after my dog.. If i walked away and ignored it, then FINE, but don't tell me I need to pick up after my dog if he's not even done going yet! That being said, this dog park is full of weirdos. read more

Never coming back here again. At first glance, the dog park seems inviting- with two sections for big & small dogs & water fountains in the area. However my experience here was terrible. I brought my 2 year old Corgi to socialize with other dogs & he got attacked by another dog (a pit bull). When I confronted the owner, he said his dog was from a rescue agency & only had him for a two weeks & did nothing to punish his dog for what he did. (Seriously- what person will bring their dog to a dog park, especially not knowing their history with other dogs!) From talking with the various dog owners there, there are quite a few dog owners who bring their overaggressive dogs here and really don't care what they do. It's such a shame, since this park is so close to my home- but I rather drive further to a better quality & cleaner park, such as the San Mateo park on Third Ave or the Pacifica one. read more

This review is for the Dog Park only. I think Commodore Park itself is lovely, it is well cared for, clean and I spent many years on those baseball field benches when my kids played ball. As much as I would love to LOVE this park? I don't. I do have three very different small dogs, one loves to play, he is boisterous and a little pushy but he is super friendly. A little girl who just wants to show off her prettiness and an old grumpy blind boy who just wants to pee everywhere his brother does.. My problems with this park? 1. There is Poop (saying this nicely but if you went you'd understand) everywhere! Don't the people who come here realize what a filthy and dangerous risk this is for everyone? I brought a ball for my girl and threw it for her and it landed in a giant pile of sh*t. I also have stepped in it every time I go here, that is just unacceptable. I spend a good part of my time cleaning up old piles so my dogs or I don't bring it home. Why is it so hard to pick up your own dogs mess? The bags are available. ? Another day I was there, nice dogs, friendly play no scuffles but I kept popping mints because I thought it was me! The park smells. Bad. 2. The gate separating the large dog and small dog side is a joke. My little girl can squeeze under the gate and my young boy can stick his nose through the chain link and risk having his nose chewed off which almost happened when I was there last week. My dogs are a little unruly I get it but that is why I love taking them to an enclosed park where they can burn off a little energy but while I was there they were running up and down the fence barking at the big dogs next door which is usually fine, they love that and it is a normal thing and fun for all but it didn't seem to be all in fun for them. The big dogs were aggressive, I thought, and though I do have my dogs on fairly good voice command, when they are in a frenzy like that there is no way to stop them. I seriously thought my little girl was going to get eaten if she made it under that fence. and my young boy was foaming at the mouth. He has never done that or shown any kind of anxiety at all anywhere else. I left. Took them for a walk instead while my husband who was waiting in the truck saw another owner come in with a little dog who was charged by the big dogs because the owner opened the gate. See? I told you. My daughter brought her young small three legged dog there a few years ago and her pup was attacked by a large dog. And I see here that it is a common occurrence even the owners being bitten. If you are bitten by a dog at a dog park you are supposed to report it! Don't just walk away. 3. Potholes and exposed roots hidden under the leaves everywhere. I am not picky about dirt or grass or even mud, dogs don't care but I think it is a safety issue.They start running around and can get their feet stuck in a hole or root and it's all over! I wonder how many dogs have actually been injured. I am sure the people and the dogs who frequent this park are very nice I actually know some of them personally and have been very hopeful that I could join them and let our dogs play. Being a San Bruno resident all my life I ran my family business, raised my kids here and own a couple of homes. I am all about supporting my city in every way which we all know as San Brunans is a wonderful and safe city with a lot to offer but I can't support this dog park. read more

Not my favorite dog park but I go here a lot because it's near my house. There is a gate that separates the park into two sides for small dogs and big dogs, but I've only ever seen it closed one time. I have a small dog so I get a little nervous when the gate is open in case a big dog decides to attack her- I saw a big dog attack a puppy the first time I ever went here. Since this is a smaller park sometimes there are only big dogs running around so if I want my dog to play with another pup then I have to leave the gate open. If you come in the evening while it's busy then all the dogs and humans know each other so I'd feel awkward just shutting the gate when they're all mixed together and that's their routine. I haven't had an incident with any big dogs and my dog yet, the dogs all seem to get along so far. I always have nice conversations with the owners too. read more

BUT, The gates are open and big dogs are on the small dog side. The dog owners do not watch their dogs closely enough. It's muddy My lil 4.5 pound Yorkie would get killed in there. NO WAY. I just walk her on a leash around this hot ass mess of a dog park. I dream of rallying together with other frustrated locals and take over this park as it has potential. Brought my dog here once, not bringing her here again. The wide dirt paths allow for a big opportunity for my dog to just roll in a ton of dirt and sand and be extra stinky. At least turn it into cement for a decent walk way. Even though there were two sections for small and big dogs, the gate that joins them both were wide open. It just wasn't big enough for me to throw a ball with my Chuckit so far enough that my dog could run like crazy. I didn't have a bad experience with any of the owners, all dogs were friendly and being supervised by their owners. There didn't seem to be any poop laying around anywhere. It's such a shame that there isn't really a great dog park in the San Bruno/South City area that I can take my dog. There should be a list of dog park etiquette rules posted at the entrance of the dog park because a lot of people are completely ignorant to the rules. read more

I mainly come here for my Sammy to socialize in the dog park exercise area. It's a great size so there's plenty of space to run around. There's a gated fence to separate bigger dogs from the small ones if needed. There's poop bags and water for the canines, and picnic tables and benches to sit on for the humans. ;) Most patrons are friendly and you'd often see the regulars there. I only wished they remodeled this dog park like the one in SSF. At least make the grounds even and no holes. Also add more lighting especially needed in the winter months. I really hope the city one day make improvements to this place. I actually have sent a letter to the city years ago but nothing had been done since and don't think they ever will. read more

This place has so much promise. It sits on a tiny hillside with nothing but trees and grass. It has equal sided small and large dog sides and it's about an acre or so total of land. It's extremely busy with a very large population of "regulars" who'll gladly swap doggy stories with you. Most of the owners watch out for each other's dogs and warn you of known 'predatory' dogs. Well...it USED to have lots of nice grass. In the short span of 2 years, the city has let it become a disgusting mess. The dog owners have volunteered to organize but the city does not support the park. While the the city mows and clean up the UNUSED grassy area all around the park, I've yet to see them even simply remove the leaves that have stacked up over this winter. It makes no sense whatsoever. I've watched the park workers work on the tiny grassy area around the park for HOURS, hosing down a barely used paved side walkway, without even entering the park. The question marks on top of my head were flashing quite brightly. The because the grass is receding, the hillside is washing away exposing tree roots, and there is nothing to hold back the mud from washing down into the entrance. [ _sigh_] This is a very small dog park that would require such a small amount of effort to maintain, and to improve. I attended this park regularly from August to November 2008, and it was mowed ONCE.. and ONLY on the small dog side. The bare dirt area at the entrance has never been treated so the minute you open your car door you smell that weird smell when poop someone doesn't clean their dog areas. Kind of stale poop,dirty dog smell that wafts over the front area where you enter. I think because everyone tends to congregate with their dogs at the entrance. Soo...you'll walk around this gooey mess, and look at all the nice clean grassy outside the fenced area and think to yourself.."wtf is the deal here?" If I were a San Bruno resident, I'd be more than a little ticked off. I quit going there after Thanksgiving 08 because the leaves are so thick it's killing the grass, and the poop is hidden in the mess of dead leaves, mud, and green grass so it's impossible for volunteers (and there are plenty of willing dog owners) to clean up the poop. If you try to avoid that area, the only other option is around the tables at the front gate, which is usually filled to the brim with owners standing around talking to each other. There are an awful lot of owners making excuses for their dogs who might be too rough, or bark too much, but the good owners do outnumber them. This place could be the best local dog park in the peninsula but right now it's a poopy, dirty, muddy hillside with broken water fountains (yea, instead of fixing the leaking dog water fountain, they just turned off the water, re-seeded the grass and roped it off). Do NOT go afterdark, as there are no lights. read more
