There is quite a range of selection from comics and pops to TCG. They didn't seem to have quite as big of a Lorcana selection as other places, but I know it's kind of new so that's probably why. The prices vary, but seem a bit pricey. Especially for booster packs of Lorcana- even Target is cheaper. Stuff like deck boxes have fair pricing, but playmats you might as well get on Amazon for a third of the cost for the same mat. Only one of the staff members seemed friendly. A taller, older looking dude. Seemed kind. And was helpful. The rest hovered in the back being unapproachable. One even passed me by as I stood at the counter. The back of the shop has an area where they obviously have events, but there's no visible calendar of events in the main shop. There's a big one in that back room, but it didn't seem like I could go check it. Should put one visible in shop for people to know and join. read more

I can't decide whether to be bitter or happy that my childhood neighborhood got a terrific comic book store a decade after I left. Comic Asylum is one of the best shops to find comics, original art and related nerdery in DFW. It was the place where a staffer -- perhaps owner Mark Hay -- once told me I should check out "this new comic called Walking Dead." An interesting aspect of shopping there is how many back issues from past decades are displayed among new comics. Because of that I found a Buscema/Palmer Avengers issue, a Captain America comic originally priced at 35 cents and an obscure underground called Fog City Comics, each for $7 or less. Some comics stores are kind of shabby inside but this looks as nice as a store at Northpark Mall. read more

After reading a few of the posts I can say it is hit or miss on the customer service. I have been when they are great talkative and friendly and I've been when they act like you are a nuisance. They do have a great selection of items and every once in a while you find something under MRSP. Most of the time though things are MRSP or more so don't think you are gonna find a lot of bargains. For the people who want to sell their comics or cards understand you are not going to get what you think or what eBay says they are worth. Remember they are a for profit business and they want to resell what you give them for more money. So my suggestion is to sell them yourself if you want to try and get close to the value they are worth. read more

After driving past this place many times and always saying I was going to stop by one day, I finally decided to visit. The actually moved recently, the new location is across from the old one. The have a good selection of TPB's, one side Marvel and the other Side DC. They of course have regular comic books, not just stuff from the big two, but from smaller publishers as well. Staff is of course knowledgeable, then again I don't think there's anyone who works at a comic book shop who isn't themselves a huge fan. The guys here are really helpful, and have no problem answering questions or making recommendations. I also managed to get a copy of Final Crisis here which no one else seemed to carry. Large portion of the back of the store is dedicated to RPG's, card games, and dice games. They also have a small selection of toys, and others odds and ends. read more

I consider myself a comic book shop snob! It's honestly hard to find a good comic book shop anymore! And, Comic Asylum is a good comic book shop! The staff is friendly and will answer any and all questions you have without acting annoyed or disinterested in what you have to say. That's always a plus! I did noticed that the store caters a lot to the card battling crowd and table rpg gamers, which I can understand because they both bring in crowds and will end up spending more money on merchandise! So, the comic selection isn't the largest I've seen especially compared to stores like Titan Comics or Long Star Comics, but it's a small store so you can't expect them to carry everything! They do have a large selection of graphic novels and a 50% off graphic novel bin-which is heaven!!! Overall, this is a cool hangout spot to talk about comics and games without feeling nerdy or pressured to buy some random crap. What would make it cooler? More independent titles! read more

Ive been by there a few times the staff really isn't friendly at all, I've never been greeted or acknowledged entering. went in to buy a few paints a few weeks ago and again I was ignored and after the cashier snobbishly informing me they have a card minimum before taking my card he completely blew off my question about and games they had going on. I have been to this shop a few times over the years. Today however I have experienced one of the worst attempt at money grabbing I have seen in a comic shop in all my years of geekdom. Recently Wizards of the Coast released a limited run comic shop exclusive cover of Volos Guide to Monsters for their D&D game series. This was part of an initiative to drive business to local comic shops as opposed to buying from amazon or other big box stores. I (being an avid player and dm) wanted one but unfortunately as it had originally released during the holiday and my wife needed several medical procedures did not have the money to pick it up until my local shop was sold out. So at my wife's urging I called other shops in the area seeing if anyone had a copy. I called this shop and was told they did indeed have it. I was very excited and confirmed the price was still 50. This was a smart move on Wizards part in releasing at the same price at the normal book due to, again, wanting to drive fans to their local stores. So I excitedly got ready and drove 30 mins out to this shop to get my new book. When I arrived the book was not on the shelf. Instead it was in the back and the person who brought it out was what I assume was the owner. He informed me that he did have one, it was apparently returned by a customer, but since he knew it was a collectors item he was planning on selling it in eBay (touting they were going for upwards of 250 dollars). So even though the book was actually damaged with a small ding and I had come all that way he was willing to be 'nice' and sell it to me for 65; a mere 30% increase from what I was told on the phone. I politely told him I understood his position but I disagreed and he then proceeded to keep trying to explain to me that he had been patient, It had come in over a month ago and he was there to make money. I reiterated that I understood but disagreed. After he tried some more to convince me I repeated my position again and left. This was an item that was made and priced specificly in an attempt to help out the small comic shops of America, an initiative which I agree with. Now some shops are trying to take advantage of that and their customers and that I disagree with. It would have been one thing if the owner had bought the copy for himself to sell on ebay. That is now his personal copy and he can do what he wants. But to take store stock and try to gouge customers because you know you can? I can not abide by that. Especially when your own employees quoted me a price that got me to drive a whole county away on my weekend. I will never come to this shop again. They may not see this has a huge loss but I would urge others that there are plenty of honest shops on the area that work to make a profit but also value their customers and integrity as well as have a love for their products and what they stand for. read more

Two years later returned to purchase latest issue of TWD and the cashier refused my card payment due to minimum charge policy. Clearly the focus here is more on games than on comics. Comic section is mostly current releases, flanked by a small back issue section; there are some interesting rare titles under glass. The back room plays host to most of the activity and traffic through Comic Asylum--and the staff is many times too busy with the gaming crowd to field questions from the book nerds. I understand the business is probably driven by the game nerds--but maybe it's time to amend the store name to include this activity? read more

There are definitely better shops in Dallas, but they have a lot more gaming events then most. The card gaming merchandise here is expensive, even for a Mom and Pop shop. It feels like their love is comic books, but they make all their money on trading cards. Being a trading card guy, I definitely notice the difference. The staff is nice though, I will give them that. Like most mom and pop shops, they like what they do and are just trying to make a living doing it, and I can respect that. I don't mind paying a few extra bucks here and there to have a decent place to stratch my Magic: The Gathering itch on a Wednesday night without having to deal with a super competetive mean crowd of people. The community is hit or miss. On one hand there's a good amount of people who will take the extra time and effort to teach new players, or even give them extra dice or common/uncommon cards to help them out. However there's also plenty of people who seem nice, but try to con you into bad trades. I once heard a guy bragging to his friends about how much of a good trade he got out of a little kid. Yikes. Not the kind of guy I would want around my kid. However the shop community is fairly casual, which does make it more fun of a social experience. Which is something I always look for in a card shop. If you're an adult that loves his comics and Magic, this is a pretty nice place to be. However if you're a parent just looking to drop off their kid somewhere, I'd probably go somewhere else. read more

Good spot! Lots of comics, back issues tend to be of the graphic novel or TPB variety. Very knowledgeable staff who didn't mind engaging in a detailed exposition of a particular Hellblazer story arc I was looking for. All in all I trek out here if I need a specific current variant or mainstream compilation in a pinch. They also have a ridiculous variety of card-based gaming setups and collectibles holy crap. read more

These guys recently moved across the street from their previous location and increased their space significantly. They're a comic book and tabletop gaming store. They've got a decent good selection of both and their employees are pretty helpful. Their trading card singles selection could be a bit better organized and displayed, but what they've got is more than adequate. I have been coming here for a few years now and I would recommend this shop to any casual gamer. Sure there are a few competitive card players here, myself included, but there also are a good group of new and casual players. It is definitely fun to sit across from someone just getting into Magic the Gathering and remember what it was like for me. Pricing on their singles are reasonable, if a little on the high end. they throw different types of events during the week for all games, both cards and table top. First time customer, and probably the last time. CA had lots of gaming supplies, collectables and graphic novels- but the actual comic book selection and availability was sparse with no real back issues boxes save a few popular titles. I made a selection, went to the front counter and stood there waiting for literally 5 minutes while 2 employees were pulling trading cards out of boxes in the little office 5 feet behind the counter not paying attention to me or the other customers behind me wanting to ask a question. I finally put $4.50 in cash on the counter and walked out with my comic book, only then was I noticed. After pointing to my money and saying I got tired of waiting one of them said "You should have said something". I shouldn't have to get the attention of 2 employees 5 feet behind the counter when we are all in plain sight of eachother so I can give them money.
