Valerie is professional, courteous, and highly responsive. We trust her completely and only have amazing things to say about her and the care of our cat. Prior to our first cat sitting arrangement, Valerie came to our home to meet our cat and get a feel for the cat's needs. We really appreciated this! Since that time, we have called upon Valerie to cat sit for short trips as well as extended vacations. She has always been able to fit us in, even during busy holiday times. Moreover and perhaps more importantly, our cat seems to be happy upon our return. We have found the Comfy Pets rates to be quite reasonable, too. We typically opt for a 15 minute visit on one day, followed by a longer visit (for more playtime with the cat) on the following day. Valerie always puts together an explicit contract which lays out fees/expectations. Again, I think this speaks to her high degree of professionalism and work ethic. She also gives us an update or two about our cat while we are gone, and we've loved this extra bit of information as it helps put us at ease! Val and Dave are the best! Our dog Cassie has been boarding with them for the past 6-7 years and she always loved staying with them whenever we had to leave her behind. We use to travel quite often, but luckily Val and Dave were always able to accommodate a place for Cassie during those days. It was such a relief to know she was able to stay in a loving home when separated from us. We were so lucky to find them all those years ago because they really are the best! Now that we're moving to the west coast, we're sad that Cassie won't get to stay with them again. We just got back from our trip, the first without our puppy, and I wanted to write this review immediately. Ever since our first interaction with Valerie and David, we were impressed. They're so nice, organized, professional, experienced, and thoughtful with all their questions, paperwork, and preparations. We were nervous about going away, and they put us at ease immediately. They answered all our questions, and let us visit so we could meet in person and our dog could see what his "camp" would be like. Our puppy took to them right away and felt immediately comfortable in their home. We knew this was going to be the perfect arrangement for him! Everything was like an answer to our prayers! They have a large fenced-in yard, allow only 1 other dog at the same time (and it was also a small one), the dogs are able to roam throughout most of the house without having to be in cages, they'll allow your pet's toys and blankets, and they'll even feed him the special way we sometimes have to. Valerie also regularly texted and emailed updates with pictures to let us know how our puppy was doing, which made us so comforted and relieved when we were gone. David walked our dog Olaf on and off for several years when we were living nearby. He was both incredibly flexible and incredibly reliable. Based on our previous experiences, either of those qualities are hard enough to find in a dog walker, let alone both. He also had no problem handling Olaf, a 55-lb American Staffordshire terrier who loves to pull on his leash. When we saw them interact, David got warmer welcomes from Olaf than we did when we came home! Olaf also stayed with Valerie and David on one or two occasions and had a great time. We have since moved out of Maryland, and as we were trying to sell our house, David came to the rescue one more time for us. When our real estate agent somehow misplaced the lockbox key just minutes before an open house, David brought our old house key on short notice. We miss him! read more

If you have a dog or a small pet like a parrot, I recommend Comfy Pets. Both Val and David are caring individuals and take fantastic care of my parrot. Our Quaker parrot is very fickle and true to his species he is very selective to whom he bonds or allows to care for him. We used to take him to a pet store that boarded parrots. We would take him home and we can tell he had a horrible time. He would bite us and himself. Since making the change and going with Comfy Pets, I am much more comfortable with leaving him and confident in his care. Val and David are very warm to all of the pets they watch. They talk to my parrot (and dogs under their care from my observation) much like we do at home. Val and David get the key point, our pet is a member of our family that we are entrusting our loved one's wellbeing to them. This is quite evident how they treat my bird. Our bird is always in excellent spirits when we take him home. And, I am happy to say he is never bitey towards us nor himself. We think he enjoys his stay as much as we enjoy our vacations. Valerie and Dave are the dream pet sitters we'd been hoping to find for our 6-pound chihuahua Bianca! Our Bianca is full of anxieties and can behave unpredictably with strangers. Valerie didn't hesitate to take on a challenging dog and I could tell from the moment I met Valerie that she is one of those people who just plain understands animals. Valerie went to great pains to set up a separate area for Bianca in the main house since she is not always receptive to other dogs...and even had a teenager come for visits with the small dogs while she was at work. Val and Dave really thought through what might work out best for Bianca and it was a great success in the end. The last time we left Bianca with a (different) pet sitter she lost over a pound which is no small thing for a dog her size....The stress of the separation from us really showed in her whole demeanor. What a welcome surprise when I went to pick up Bianca from Val and Dave....Her coat was shiny and she had clearly eaten well (no weight loss, yay!) She wasn't shaking and scared...On the contrary, she had clearly thrived during the week we had gone away. And the icing on the cake was when Bianca actually gave Dave kisses goodbye. She apparently really loved him and followed him around all day....This is a true first for Bianca -- apart from my husband she acts afraid of every other male human she has ever met. He does not like to leave my side and is scared of big dogs BUT when I met Valerie and David and I saw how my dog just felt at ease and sat with them and played with them I was so happy. I wish our experience with Comfy Pets had been as great as the other reviews on here. My husband and I recently took a 3 night trip to New York and after debating on whether to take our 4 month old puppy maltese Moritz with us, we decided it would be best to leave him with a sitter given all the moving about the city we had planned. I spoke with Val and she was able to accommodate him, and while we felt uneasy leaving him with strangers at such a young age, we visited their home and she showed me the room he would be staying in and their backyard where the dogs go out to play and do their business. She didn't seem to be aware of the precautions you need to take with this tiny breed, which I explained to her and she agreed Moritz would not be let outside in cold or wet weather (his breed does not tolerate this well), without a leash or playing with other dogs unsupervised (he is only 4 pounds so could easily get injured). I texted Val a few times throughout the trip to check on Moritz, and hours later would not receive a response from her. This prompted me to call her, and when I did she claimed she never got my texts, and seemed annoyed I was calling (umm hello, I'm paying you and checking on my puppy and shouldn't have to wait 5+ hours for a response!). During one call she told me he was "dirtier than when we dropped him off" and that "she may have stepped on him a few times when he was following her around the kitchen, but he's fine". Seriously?? The non responsiveness and weird comments prompted us to come home a few hours earlier on Sunday, and again I texted Val to let her know, no response and then called her. Val was not home, so Dave met us at the house, and when we went inside to pick up Moritz we found that he was not in the open living room that we were told was "HIS room" but in some sort of dark closet or bathroom with the door shut. He was filthy, smelled bad and seemed really shaky when we picked him up. He had thick black crusted stains around his eyes, which I had never seen before and gave us the idea that he was probably crying a lot during his stay. At the time we dropped Moritz off, he was almost completely potty trained and hadn't had any accident inside our home in weeks. As soon as we got home, he peed on the carpet and has had about 5 accidents inside in the past week since we have been back home. While we have no way of knowing what exactly went on while we were away, the poor communication, the fact that we barely recognized our happy sweet puppy when we picked him up, and his behavior since coming home made us feel the need to write this review. This may be a better fit for larger, low maintenance dogs or cats who don't need much attention and care, but for our puppy maltese we were not happy with the experience. read more

I thought my vacation to the Eastern shore was ruined! I went to Kensington, Maryland to visit my unofficial adoptive mother. In tow were two one-year old puppies (Iggy and Al) and my elder statesman, Buddy. I had a chance to go to Bethany Beach, Deleware but I couldn't see taking 3 dogs to an elderly aunt's house for 2 nights. The truth be told, Iggy and Al would have been fine. It was Buddy I couldn't trust. Buddy has a "loose bladder" which is a euphemism for his preference to potty in the house. I have taken him to vets; he has gotten better medical care than many Americans. So the search was on! After looking into vets and froux-froux boutique boarding salons, my adoptive mom said, "I have a flyer about pet sitting." This woman may look old but her mind rivals any 20 year-old's. We called and met David. What a nice man. Gave me a tour of his home. I explained all of my concerns and he did not seem phased. We decided to go with Comfy Pets. They have an excellent set up. The dogs able to go out at will. He gave them walks in the nearby park. I had to force myself not to call to see how my boys were doing. I was a little anxious but the soothing waters of Bethany Beach did the trick! I got back a little later than expected due to "the Bridge Traffic" and he charged me an extremely reasonable rate. We met Valerie. She was a delight! The dogs did not want to go. And, Buddy did not have any accidents. Either he was stealthy or did very well. Overall: Could not have been happier with their service. The only improvement I would say is that I would have liked pictures of my pups via cell phone-it would be low cost and a nice addition. David also does terrific carpentry and woodworking. We saw the stairs he was building. He is the type of person I would completely trust helping my adoptive mother. Val & Dave are AMAZING pet sitters. I just recently got married and we needed to find a pet sitter for our 4 month old puppy Wally for our wedding weekend and the 2 week honeymoon afterwards. We were really anxious and felt horrible about leaving Wally with someone for over half a month (ended up being 16 days) at such a young age. He wasn't completely potty trained, and had that crazy puppy energy (night time zoomies!!) that we weren't completely able to tame. We had worked really hard on training him (puppy classes + private in-home training) and he was making good progress, but we were warned by everyone including our trainer to expect some regression when we got him back. When we returned, we came back to a happy and healthy puppy. He is now almost completely potty trained, has learned to calm down and self-settle at night, play with himself when he has excess energy, and knows his basic commands even better than when we left (especially "leave it" - so crucial!). His loose leash walking has also improved! I don't think Val & David did any formal training with him, but I think their years of experience with dogs, their general calm demeanor and the other dogs that were there with Wally during his stay did WONDERS. He still has his little quirks (as all dogs will), but he definitely came back a better behaved puppy! So if you have any qualms at all that your dog will come back with bad habits, rest assured that won't happen with Val & Dave. If anything, he'll come back with new good habits. My dog lola and I had the most amazing experience with comfy pet. My family and I were able to enjoy our vacation knowing our baby was in the right hands. We got picture and email updates which kept us at ease. Lola has severe allergies and thankfully they were able to stay on top of her medications and lola was able to enjoy their wonderful backyard. Comfy Pets is the best! We first used Valerie for in-home visits with our kitty Henry, and then when Henry got a little sister, we continued using Valerie for Henry and Blanche. Henry is a good cat, but he is more sassy than sweet, so it says a lot that he was willing to curl up in Valerie's lap while she was watching them! Our Westies recently enjoyed a stay with Valerie and Comfy Pets for about a week and a half and they had a great time. I'm not going to admit that our dogs are spoiled, but they have become accustomed to enjoying their evenings on the couch being petted and admired. So we really liked that with Comfy Pets, they stayed in a home with people rather than in a kennel situation. Valerie was very good with communication before and during the stay. Comfy Pets is FANTASTIC. I will use them again, and I would recommend that anyone use them, no matter what type of pet you have. When I look for someone to watch my dogs, I am looking for three things: environment, flexibility, and value for my money. Comfy Pets was outstanding on all accounts. Environment-- In addition to Valerie and David being lovely people, they provided a welcoming, homey environment for my 2 year old dog, Sebastian, over the Christmas holiday. While my dog is very laid back, he can experience short-term separation anxiety when we leave him elsewhere. When I took him to meet Valerie and David, I could tell that he was immediately at ease with them. They have pet-friendly furniture and leave the back door open so the dogs can come in and out as they please. In addition to the fenced yard, Valerie and David do daily walks and make sure to wrestle and snuggle your pets in your absence. This was my first time leaving Sebastian with anyone other than a friend (who he knows well) so I was a little nervous, but they sent me pictures of Sebastian having a great time during my vacation and encouraged me to check in whenever I wanted to. Sebastian came home exhausted and happy after 5 days of love and playtime! I have absolutely no doubt that they treated him just like their own while he stayed with them. Flexibility-- My original plans for Sebastian fell through in early December when travel plans changed. It was very short notice, but Valerie and David were able to meet Sebastian and make room for him as an extra guest with little problem. They were careful to make sure he'd be a good addition to the 3 dogs they were already watching over the holiday, but they were happy to have Sebastian once it was clear that he'd make for a good addition to the pack. Value-- I don't like to focus on this too much, as I adore my dogs and like to think that I'd pay anything for them to be happy while I'm gone. And while this is only partly true (because I live on a budget like most folks), I also believe that leaving pets with someone that you truly trust is invaluable-- after all, what is a vacation when you are constantly worrying about your furry friends? To put it simply, Comfy Pets provides outstanding value. Their rates are among the lowest out there and they provide SO much for what they charge. And while large-scale kennels will play with and walk your pets, a lot of them charge extra for these things instead of considering them part of the package. With all the add-ons you'd be charged for elsewhere, Comfy Pets is definitely cheaper, and they are real people who love opening their home to new furry friends instead of focusing on the bottom line. While I will definitely be taking Sebastian back to Comfy Pets, I'm also confident that they could both handle and love my high energy, neurotic-but-sweet Weimaraner, and I look forward to leaving both dogs with Valerie and David in the future!! read more

Don't pass up the opportunity to meet Valerie! I used Comfy Pets for the first time back in October 2013 and since then, have used them regularly for my fluffy kitty, Chuck! I did my research first, read theirs and others reviews, compared rates, etc. Their rates are very reasonable and the level of service outstanding. There were no hidden fees or "extra's" tacked on for special requests like brushing or medications - YAY! I know kitties are independent and I've been told they pretty much can take care of themselves if you leave enough food and water... Well, call my kitty spoiled, but I want to make sure his litter is clean and he gets some affection and his favorite treats while I'm away. That's where Valerie comes in! When scheduled, she visits Chuck once a day to make sure he has everything he needs. She freshens his food and water, plays with him, brushes him, and gives him lots of love on each visit. When she first came, Chuck was very cautious and would hide and not let her touch him. Now, he greets her at the door with his favorite toy and rubs against her legs all the way to the kitchen J. Valerie is reliable, engaged, honest and responsible; you can tell she loves her work and she cares about your pet and your home. Valerie and David have been such a help to our family. We have been taking our very needy French Bulldog to Comfy Pets for over two years now. It's a perfect fit for him because he needs quite a bit of attention and he gets to play with other dogs. He also has extensive food and environmental allergies requiring specific food and daily medication. Valerie and David are on top of giving him what's required even if it means rolling it in goat cheese;). They send pictures of our dog playing with the other dogs (looking pretty happy) and respond to me in a timely manner when I text, call or email. They really do enjoy our dog and spend time with him because they know his habits and tell us about what he has been up to while staying with them (ie: the process by which he hides his bones or how he stalks and catches bugs).
