We have an early morning meeting today in Ottawa. We are spending tonight at the Holiday Inn &…read moreSuites. My room was comfy ... I had a king-sized bed. Parking is free as is WIFI (it was fairly quick). We had supper at Graffiti's which is in the hotel. We split an order of bruschetta. It was okay. Danny and Steve also split an order of calamari. I ordered chicken parm ... I love love love chicken parm and this wasn't great. Steve ordered spaghetti and meatballs ... he said it was pretty good. I wished I'd ordered it too! Danny ordered a Sicilian pizza (pepperoni, bacon and sun-dried tomatoes) ... he said it was pretty good. Jennifer was our server and took good care of us. So I'd recommend the hotel but not the restaurant.

I received two complimentary breakfast coupons for each morning. The coupon was good for up to one of my best eggs benedict breakfasts or about $13 CD. Per my profile preference my room #903 was on the upper 9th executive floor. My room cost $210 CD. Another positive note was the very nice white cotton robe awaiting for me on my bed. My only complaint with my room was that the air-conditioner was not cool enough during the day when the sun entered through the window's shear curtains. The room darkening drapes were permanently fixed to the window so I could not close the window darkening drapes to keep the sun out. The sheer curtains did not help much to reduce the sun or heat from the sun. Eventually I had to open the small window to let the cooler evening air in with the local street noise. Most hotels only allow you to partially open the windows so you can't jump out from your room. Also the flat screen HDTV in the room was only 32-inches. I wish the screen was larger. I would still return here to try a different room from what I had because I liked the location of this hotel, which is adjacent to a shopping mall and near my meetings. Also the hotel is only about 20 minutes away from downtown.

Brookstreet Hotel: A Complete Failure of Customer Service and Common Sense…read more While traveling for business, I discovered my passport was missing. I had to cancel my Ottawa plans and scramble to figure out how to get home. I contacted Brookstreet approximately 23 hours before its 24-hour cancellation deadline, explained the situation, and even offered to settle the matter in person when I returned. The response was disappointing from start to finish. The first employee told me to call back the next day. The second was equally unhelpful. When I asked to speak with a manager, nobody would get on the phone. Seriously? Not even a manager willing to have a conversation? Every other travel partner and vendor involved showed understanding and worked with me. Brookstreet chose to charge the cancellation fee rather than show even a modest degree of flexibility. Unexpected situations happen. That's life. A cancellation policy should be a guideline, not an excuse to abandon basic human judgment. I wasn't trying to take advantage of the hotel. I was dealing with a serious, unexpected problem, contacted them as soon as I could, and offered a reasonable way to resolve the situation. The fact that management apparently couldn't be bothered to speak with me says more about the hotel's approach to customer service than any cancellation policy ever could. Good hospitality isn't about blindly enforcing rules. It's about how you treat people when things go wrong. Brookstreet had an opportunity to show some understanding, waive the fee, and earn a future customer. Instead, it chose a cancellation charge over goodwill. I hadn't even checked in, and Brookstreet had already ensured I wouldn't want to stay there. I'll take my business elsewhere and advise colleagues and fellow travelers to do the same. Management should take a hard look at its priorities. Keeping a customer costs nothing when a little common sense and compassion are all that's required. Losing one over a cancellation fee is just bad business. Stay elsewhere.

I found the guy at the front desk to be a little cranky, maybe just a bad day. Desk staff in the morning were very friendly tho. They gave us bagged up breakfast because of covid. Unfortunately, no microwave in the rooms to warm it up. Pet fee was a bit expensive at $25 considering at a previous location of the same chain, they charged only $15. Decent location for getting on the highway and heading into the city.

When we got to our room, she went for a bath only to find the plug was broken off the drain. We called the desk and we're told someone would be up - an hour later No one showed. Called back to no answer and finally went down to the desk where he sent up maintenance. He tried to repair it and couldn't and advised us to call front desk again. I called front desk who told me quite rudely to "just have a shower" and when I explained she can't he repeated himself and hung up the phone on me. This is an appalling display of customer service and made my girlfriend break down after a long week. Do not go to this hotel if you want to be respected and treated right. The manager was supposed to call me to speak about this and she did not. An embarrassing hotel.
