My family and I stayed in the Junior suite for three nights in July 2022. The hotel is clean, the staff are friendly, and our room was spacious; however, it lacked a number of amenities/features that lead to us be disappointed with our stay.
First, we learned upon arrival that you have to request a fridge and microwave - they are not standard in each room. I requested both upon arrival, and unfortunately we only received the microwave on the second day after asking a second time for it to be brought up (we were initially told it would come up immediately after we checked in). We were put on a waiting list for a fridge, but we were not lucky to receive one during our stay. Instead, we used the upright cooler in the suite that you can have ice bags brought up to try to keep things cool. You end up with a mess in the cooler because if you are not quick enough the ice melts and creates pools of water. This is not a big deal if you only have bottles/drinks that you want to cool, but we were staying in the hotel with young children and needed to keep some food cool. In my opinion, microwaves and fridges should be a standard item, particularly in a suite.
Second, the suite did not contain cutlery or dishes (only a couple of cups for the Keurig machine). The hotel staff were kind enough to bring up cutlery and dishes when we asked, so that was a plus. There are drawers in the suite that could be stocked with these items, which I highly recommend being added as a standard feature.
Third, housekeeping staff did not come into our room to tidy up or take out the garbage during our stay. I imagine this is largely due to COVID-19 protocols, so perhaps unavoidable.
Fourth, there is a lack of lighting in the suite, especially in the bathroom. While there are nice, large windows that can let in natural light, there are no ceiling fixtures to help illuminate the suite at night. Lighting is provided by a few table and floor lamps, and the vanity lighting in the bathroom is not bright enough to properly put on makeup.
Fifth, the faucet in the bathroom should be replaced. The neck of the faucet is too shallow, so the "stream" of water is really close to the back end of the sink, which leads to water spillage on the counter. Additionally, the water comes out in multiple streams vice one steady flow.
Sixth, the fitness centre operating hours during most days of the week are 6:00 am - 9:00 pm. It would have been helpful if the gym would open earlier than 6:00 am.
Seventh, the complimentary wifi is not very strong. For reference, you can either choose the complimentary wifi, or you can upgrade to high speed for $9.95 per day. I would have thought that high speed internet would have been included.
Finally, there is limited above ground parking. I believe it is expected that most guests will park underground. Unfortunately, the height limitation of the parking garage (6'7") meant that we were unable to clear the opening due to a Thule cargo box mounted to the top of our SUV.
It was the sum of these experiences that lead us to be disappointed with our stay, particularly given that the hotel is rated as a premium, 4-diamond hotel. read more
