Such a cool hotel…read more.. I come to Madison for work at least once a year and always stay at this Marriott... Arguably one of the nicest Fairfield's you'll ever find. This place was an old cotton mill that they redesigned into a vintage yet elegant Fairfield (they probably could have/should have made it a JW, it's that nice). The staff is always friendly and accommodating and the location is perfect... Situated right on the river with great scenic views and a short 5 minute walk to all the excellent restaurants and watering holes on Main St that Madison has to offer. If coming through town for work or for leisure, this Fairfield Inn is the place to stay.

Their practice of not having an employee who customers meet face-to-face and instead using text/email for entrance instructions is probably off-putting for some (it initially was for me), but their system works just fine. Apparently the housekeeping crew was "in a rush". (We ended up staying). The room itself was just meh. Everything was fine, except for the shower that I found disgusting. Yellow gunk was all around it and the side table was crumbling. Ew. The breakfast at the place was really small and very basic. There was cold cereal and a few hot meals, along with some baked goods and packaged muffins. However the fruit was rotting and disgusting. But if you are in a hurry, it will do. It was fine for just the few days we were there and was really the only place around. If you got no where else, this is the place for you.

Also a nice homemade breakfast was served on the morning we were leaving. Very nice. The king bed in St. Michael's Room was very comfortable and the private bath was acceptable. A few of the older light fixtures were dodgy. There are dining options just down Main street in Madison. We had a meal in town. Typically we stay for more than one night and the town seemed nice enough for a longer stay. JLD Lanier owner architect of this B&B and also the Lanier Mansion. Unfortunately we did not have time to stop by that historic site. The house has some history as a stop on the Underground RR according to the innkeeper. There's a smaller side room for a larger group of friends to hang with a slightly secluded feel. There's a modern jukebox with a variety of music ie country, pop and Fiest...?! The walls are rough wood with customer chalk graffiti all over it and floors have quarters glued to the floor. Beer and shots are reasonably priced. The most expensive shot is 5 bucks. They do have cocktails. Typical bar food including pizzas. However this is not a place you look nice for. Expect smoking inside, steel toe boots and bikers.
