Such a cool hotel…read more.. I come to Madison for work at least once a year and always stay at this Marriott... Arguably one of the nicest Fairfield's you'll ever find. This place was an old cotton mill that they redesigned into a vintage yet elegant Fairfield (they probably could have/should have made it a JW, it's that nice). The staff is always friendly and accommodating and the location is perfect... Situated right on the river with great scenic views and a short 5 minute walk to all the excellent restaurants and watering holes on Main St that Madison has to offer. If coming through town for work or for leisure, this Fairfield Inn is the place to stay.

We loved the high ceilings in the rooms, the on-demand coffee station, and the elevated continental breakfast in the morning (fritatas, potatoes, egg mcmuffins). Also, when you step outside there is the river/riverwalk - a great place to have your basecamp. While it is (slightly) off the beaten path, if you are up for a nice walk it is still totally walkable to the city.

The last two times I've stayed, however, the smell of mold was practically overpowering. We even left the terrace door open to try to air the room out. I'll not take the chance, again.

The girl at the desk was glued to her computer. After 5 minutes, she then asked "are you checking in?" C'mon. We then got our room and saw that the door was wide open. Thankfully it was clean, but still I was very uncomfortable about that. We went back to the front desk and she offered us two things, refund and leave or just stay in the room. Apparently the housekeeping crew was "in a rush". (We ended up staying). The room itself was just meh. Everything was fine, except for the shower that I found disgusting. Yellow gunk was all around it and the side table was crumbling. Ew. The breakfast at the place was really small and very basic. There was cold cereal and a few hot meals, along with some baked goods and packaged muffins. However the fruit was rotting and disgusting. But if you are in a hurry, it will do. It was fine for just the few days we were there and was really the only place around. If you got no where else, this is the place for you.
