Wow.
It's been awhile since I was SO unimpressed.
My husband has had an account with Comerica for practically forever. So, when making the decision to have a joint account, he won. He also decided that we should visit the location that was 3 blocks from our house to make this happen despite my suggestion that the one slightly further away in Pleasant Ridge might be a better idea.
From the minute I walked in the door I was annoyed. Loud gossiping from the tellers, hideous decor circa 1987, and ONE PERSON available to take care of any non-standard banking procedures.
We sat there for a good 5 minutes before anyone even cared to acknowledge we were there and even then we got the look of surprise and the good ole' "I'll be with you shortly."
As we sat there waiting for the shortly, I was disgusted to observe one of the bank employees walking along, right in front of me, MAKING EYE CONTACT WITH ME while cleaning out her ear with one of her keys.... And then looking at said key... And then cleaning off the ear junk from said key that had just been swirled around the inside of her ear. I seriously thought about walking out and I did less than quietly proclaim, "I don't care if you're wearing a suit. Sticking a key in your ear to clean it in front of customers kind of ruins it."
So, finally, the bank MANAGER sees us and seems somewhat puzzled by a request to "add her to my account." He goes through this whole millarky of looking up my husbands account which of course he can't find because he keeps adding extra stuff including spaces. So, after about 5 minutes he finally locates my husband's account and then decides it's a good time to update all the info. My dead grandma could type faster than this guy.
Ok. That's done.
Now he says we have to start a whole profile for me. This makes sense, but I suddenly had this feeling of my blood boiling at the idea that we'd have to sit there for another eternity while he tried to add my details.
Now about 20 minutes in, he stares at the screen completely puzzled by what to do next.
And sat there...
for another 5 minutes...
mumbling about "this new computer program... it wants to do all kinds of crazy stuff." I'd prefer to put it down to user error.
It took everything in me to not climb over the desk and just do it myself. I'm sure I could have figured it out more quickly.
Finally, he just gives up on the whole deal and hands us yellow cards to sign and says he'll figure out the rest later. My husband needed to deposit some checks but when we got up from the desk he gently grabbed me by the arm and shuffled me out saying, "I'll do it later. If we stay here any longer I can tell you're going to lose it."
We'll see if I actually get the check card he claimed would be at my house in 2 days.
