Excellent comedy venue! We went in to ask if any tickets freed up for a 7:00 show on a Saturday. The hostess told me they had a waiting list we could get on, and we were first on the list. They took my name and number and told us we could wait in the bar or leave and wait for text if they had no-shows. We waited in the bar and had a drink, and as luck would have it, they had a couple of no-shows. BONUS: they put us in the 2nd row! Came here for their Wednesday open mic night, and I was pleasantly surprised. There is no drink minimum for open mic nights, but there is a $5 admission fee. I got their watermelon lemonade slushy (I think), and it was pretty good! It was a little strong for me though. The show itself was pretty good. It can get packed, so I recommend coming a little early to get good seats. There were 20 comedians, and I think they had 3 minutes (that might be wrong) per set. People should be informed that THERE IS A 2 DRINK MINIMUM.. in my opinion it should be a 2 drink MAX considering the drunk turd sitting next to us. We drove 5 hours to see Matt McCusker & the doofus sitting next to us was calling a dude sitting behind him racial slurs & saying he was gonna beat him up. Answering his phone (& having a lengthy call) during the show, taking pictures & ruining the whole experience for my husband since he talked to him the ENTIRE TIME. My partner and I went to Comedy on State to see Sydnee Washington for the Valentine's Day special. Sydnee Washington was a great choice as she was very funny and engaging with the audience. For a little background, she is an emmy nominated actress due to her role in Bridesman and also is a write for the NYT. While there, you are required to buy two drinks which was no problem as I planned to do so anyways. My ticket was pretty dang cheap anyways as I got the student discount because I go to UW. I 100% want to go back and I am always keeping an eye out for a good performance! read more

We can't really take that many pictures there because it's dark and well, you're not allowed too. The parking around the area sucks, I recommend parking by the garage, because it's a block over. Don't bother looking for parking other places. The two drink minimum is standard, I don't recommend getting anything alcohol, because they really water it down. But if you're an alcoholic, go off king. I really liked the ice cream drink. It's clean, pretty small and overall just a great addition to this cute little town. Place is absolutely filthy. Took mom to a show a few weeks ago and there were mouse droppings all over the seat back in front of us and the floor. When we notified a manager they suggested it was candy crumbs. The men's bathroom was absolutely disgusting with the toilet overflowing onto the floor. Place was too stuffy also. I love this place. It's only about a 20 minute drive from where I live and some pretty amazing talent comes through here. Some of the nights, I haven't even been familiar with anyone in the line up, and I'm never disappointed. It's a good laugh, good drinks and a fun time. Equally important, it's affordable! Basing this review on a horrible experience my friend had. He had been sober for months now, and during the show SPECIFICALLY asked for non alcoholic drinks. Not only did the waiter mess up and brought him out an alcoholic beverage, he gave a shitty "sorry" as a response only. My friend then asked to speak to a manager and showed her the slips that he was charged for an alcoholic beverage, that he didn't want or order. She said she'd take care of it. While walking away this "manager" had the audacity to say "if you didn't want to pay for the drinks then say so". ARE YOU STUPID. As a service worker, I couldn't imagine speaking to anyone like that. Horrible and sad. Check your workers. They're stupid disrespectful. read more

My favorite comedy club - they do things right. I'd rather drive two+ hours to Madison see a show here than go to any local club Chicago. Another reviewer mentioned the great wait staff, and the fact that they crouch down to not block customer's view of the stage. That's been our experience as well. The entire staff and management seem fantastic. There are no bad seats, they have plenty of restroom stalls, and the place is clean (your shoes will not stick to floor as they do in many clubs). I'm always impressed by how well-run this place is. The ticket purchasing experience is the best I've ever had. I recently purchased tickets for several people and was able to add another person to our group the following day. They also followed up with an email reminder of the times the doors open and show begins. Because we were a party of seven, I thought we might not be able to sit together, but they sat us at two adjacent tables. I've also purchased gift certificates from them and they mailed them to my house. What great customer service. My understanding is they treat the comics well. I appreciate their No Heckling policy. I expect their two drink minimum is how they make their money and that they give most of all of the door profits to the comics, (which is how it should be), so am happy to comply. They have a great drink menu and drinks are reasonably priced. They start their shows on-time. There's a parking garage right around the corner and plenty of nearby restaurants. I don't go to comedy shows often enough, so when I visited my friends in Madison, she decided to take me here, and it was such a fun experience. It's right downtown, parking was easy. Make sure you show up about 20 minutes or more before showtime to be seated and have enough time to order dranksss! I believe it's a minimum of 2 drinks there, alcoholic or not. Nate Bargatze was our headliner of the night, but the opener as well as the out-of-state comedian were hilarious! Why haven't I been to more shows here? Living in Madison for over 15 years, I was obviously aware of it's presence but never attended a show. Fast forward and I've been there twice within the last month. Not only do they bring in great talent but I love the space and the intimacy it brings. There is not a bad seat in the place and the service staff are great to keep you well hydrated during the show and ensures you hit your 2 drink minimum quota. Executive summary: plan on parking in one of the nearby ramps. Restrooms are decent. Drinks are STRONG...and there's a 2 drink minimum. Live comedy is hit or miss but I'll say Comedy Club does a pretty good job of booking comics. I've had several more visits where I'm splitting my sides laughing than visits where I'm left disappointed. They mix strong drinks and they're tasty BUT if you're a lightweight like me, they do have non-alcoholic versions of several of their popular drinks. I saw Michael Che last week and he was great! I like the layout of the place and it is definitely somewhere that you need to make a reservation for ($20.00 online since there is a $2.00 service fee, but you get your table reserved which is a plus). however, not a huge fan of the two drink minimum. The staff was wonderful, but the drinks were sub par. Just get a beer...or actually the long island seemed to be worth it as well. I had an old fashioned and was sorely disappointed. I've been to a good amount of comedy clubs and this one just didn't stand out to me. Granted it does depend on the act and the experience of the night so i am willing to give this place another try, but overall I wasn't too impressed. The comedy club is a super fun spot on state street. It's located across from the overture center. They have some specific rules on their tickets, so make sure to check your showtimes and parking rules before you go. If you're seeing a popular comedian, I'd recommend getting to the show a bit earlier before they start seating so you're able to sit closer. The comedians (host, opening act, and headliner) were all hilarious and super fun. The club has specific rules on no haggling and no taking photos of the comedian. I wish we were able to take photos but I understand. We actually had a few issues with payments and our tickets and the comedy club was very responsible and good at fixing the issue. Loved this club! Despite being super big and spacious, it feels very intimate. My friend and I drank a jumbo dragonberry punch between the two of us. Amazing time and amazing experience with friends. We came here on a Saturday night for Theo Von and John Stringer. Theo happened to be filming his performance for his DVD, so we were asked not to talk or heckle during the show. I loved that because I can only handle having shows ruined for me by inconsiderate people yapping during shows so many times. Tickets were only $15, and we were seated in a row of tables to the side. The show was at full capacity, and we had great seating because we were all together. We weren't squeezed together, and we had room to walk past people to get to the restroom (which is greatly appreciated because I hate having to ask people to move so I can go to the bathroom). The bathroom had speakers so you wouldn't miss any jokes. Server was upbeat and efficient. She gave us great recommendations, and she got us our drinks in minutes. There is a two drink minimum, but soda is considered a drink so order that if you don't want alcohol. Alcoholic drinks ranged from $5 to ~$20, so you can find yourself spending a total of $25 for show and drinks. The comedians were amazing and absolutely hilarious. So many cheese jokes, but that's expected in Wisconsin. Overall, I truly enjoyed myself. Whether you're happy, sad, stressed, come to comedy club. We've lived in Madison for over a year and finally went here for the first time. This is a Great venue! It's table seating, with high tops in the back. There's a clear view of the stage from everywhere, and the sound acoustics are just right. The servers are courteous and move through the dark room without any disruptions to the show. I think this is the first (/only) comedy club I've ever been to? I don't want that to discount my experiences here because I had a blast. The bartenders/waitresses/other various employees were kind and enjoyable to be around. Service was speedy. Drinks were good. The space is great. You have to walk past the entrance to Associated Bank, which is super odd but once you get past that, you're golden. The bar area is appealing (its fun to look at autographed pictures of past performers on the wall) and the performance area is large with a variety of seating options. Don't be a newbie idiot like me and check something quickly on your phone because they'll ask you to put it away. I missed the sign outside, but its common courtesy. I done goofed. I was visiting from out of town, and a friend suggested Comedy on State. Where I am from, we have a franchised comedy club with semi famous people. The comedy club is so much more than that! It is uniquely run in Madison, and they hold open mic nights for up and coming performers. When I went, I saw Greg Proops from Whose Line is it Anyway? They draw in some big names and thus draw out some big laughs from the crowd. I also like that they sit you with strangers at the same table. It makes the experience more fun! read more

It was my first time here and my first comedy show ever and I loved every second of it! We saw Ali siddiq and he so funny I was crying! The opener and host for him was so very funny! The staff was very nice and even asked if we wanted a seat up close to the stage or back a little. He also asked if it was our first time here and made sure he paired us up with another nice couple. They have limited seating so you do have to share a table. They also had a very nice drink list from mojitos to frozen margaritas to dessert drinks. Great place with 2-3 acts per night, attentive staff and a surprisingly robust drink menu that caters to those on a budget as well as those with top-shelf tastes (e.g. a house/rail brandy old fashioned versus an upgraded small-batch version). Tickets are about $15/person during weekend (including the internet service fee) with a 2 drink minimal--but non-alcoholic drinks other than water count towards the minimal--otherwise they charge you only $4 at the end of the night. First time here and I loved it! The acts were great and the waitstaff was attentive, while also being mindful that people were trying to watch a show (crouching down, talking quietly, etc). They have a 2 drink minimum per person, but that doesn't have to be alcoholic drinks. Their drink prices are pretty decent ($7 for most cocktails, $10 for top shelf) and it looked like they had a decent number of non-alcoholic options. The venue was pretty hot when we were there - I saw lots of people fanning themselves with menus and there seemed to be limited seating. I overheard one employee saying they tried to cram people in like a sardine can. I think this is more true for the later shows than the earlier, 8pm, show. Hooray, diversity! /s You know, if I want to hear a white guy with an inflated ego blather on about his life, I can sit in any bar in Madison--or anywhere in the world, for that matter-- and hear it (and be bored by it) for free. However, we were sat at this little rinky-dink table with another couple! I mean, this table was meant for two people, but they packed four people AND their drinks at it. I've been to the club twice and never on a weekend so read the review with that in mind. I'm not a fan of the unfunny agendas poorly hidden in the comedy sandwich I was forced to eat twice over the last year by the relative who lives nearby. Fool me once? Shame on you. Fool me twice? I stuff a couple lime wedges where I hope they cause fruit flies. Although now that I'm looking at the line ups it seems some of the weekend acts look pretty good. Most likely have enough work out there for you to know whether their material is up your alley. So if you wander in on a weekend and storm out needing group therapy it's all on you. Remember you're willingly sitting down where a pro comic is working. It's not like someone broke into your parent funded, off campus apartment and started making you actually think about your world view. So if you see a touring act and find yourself scarred it's your own fault. You should know how fragile you are and taking twenty seconds of toilet smartphone time to check if there could be words that scare you or concepts that confuse you just seems prudent. But if you do hear a no-no word just tweet how being subjected to it was rape. Anyway mid-week here is a nightmare for any adult fan of real comedy. The comics blend together into that awful beige smear created by mixing inoffensive observations w/ left leaning politics. I feel bad if someone is honestly trying to break in and hone their craft here. I comfort myself imagining each performer was simply parroting the opinion of some mildly attractive/ frigid SJW and is hoping to parlay public support for their social politics into an awkward weekend of redundant consents. Who knows? Maybe it could blossom into an unsatisfying and mechanical relationship filled with super important hashtags and strongly worded letters. This really appears to be a comedy club intended for those lacking even baseline world experience but not lacking a partial liberal arts education. But what came first the unfunny chicken or the humorless egg? Maybe the tone of the club mirrors the horrendous performers and the offense fueled children of privileged in the audience and not the other way around. Comedy in a safe zone is just a poetry slam and poetry slams suck. Check the weekend acts but skip the local turds. Oh ya positive note... the bathroom was pretty clean. read more

We purchased our tickets in advance online, it made seating very easy the night of. We got a table in the front and felt a part of the action for sure. We recommend getting the 30 Oz sex on the beach. It was a riot setting people's faces when the waitress brought it to our table.
