Absolutely love Comal! Definitely a restaurant to make a point to visit during your next trip to Los Cabos. We actually stayed at Auberge and had opportunity to try Comal a few times: breakfast, large family dinner, and more intimate/romantic couple dinner. Comal is absolutely perfection in its aesthetic and design. All details have been very intentionally implemented. Every single person there is inviting/welcoming and warm. The servers mastery of the menu and cuisine is fantastic. Their cocktails are creative and full of fresh ingredients. Absolutely delicious. Extensive wine list with ability to pair nicely with all of their dishes. Their crudo list is delectable. The Kampachi is a MUST!! Not a huge fan of the tuna tostada, but instead go for the tuna sashimi with ponzu! Incredible! Sea scallops and oysters! For apps, go for Doraditos, rib eye quesadilla, empanadas, etc. All the main courses are fabulous. Personally, when I'm in Baja, have to go with fresh Totoaba. Their Totoaba is incredible. Cooked with the skin crusted so you can eat absolutely the whole fish filet. However, can't go wrong with all of the main options, whether fish or meat. Hands down an incredible experience and can't wait to go back!!! read more

Consider dining anywhere else but here. First off, we had made reservations at 8 pm for a large party, and they sat us at the bar because they didn't have space for us until 8:30. They had us pre-order all of our menu items, and we had two people who had a family emergency who couldn't make it. I asked the server if we could cut it down to which they were fine with, and I asked her if our order was a reasonable amount of food for six people. She said the portions were small and this was a reasonable order. She also mentioned the shrimp was very small came with three pieces each so we needed two for the party. After seating at 8:30, we did not get any food until 9 pm, one hour after our reservation, even though everything was pre-ordered. There is no reason to pre-order if you can't get the food out in a reasonable timeframe. On top of that, we had to ask multiple times for blankets, water glasses weren't refilled, and things were forgotten. By this point, our celebrant had gotten very tired and was falling asleep waiting for all of our food. Our entrees came, and it was an extreme amount of food for 6 people. They gave us an extra entree that we did not order and they were insistent that we did. After checking our pre-order email, we did in fact only order one. The shrimp actually came with 4-5 pieces, so we didn't need two orders. While the food was great, the lack of service, bad time management, and inattentiveness to the whole meal was not appreciated. Comal is a solid option if you're staying at the Chileno Bay property and don't feel like venturing out. We stopped in most mornings for something quick, but dinner stood out much more than breakfast. Dining at Comal was an unforgettable experience. Located atop a cliff at Chileno Bay Resort, the setting is absolutely stunning and picturesque! The hospitality was top tier from the moment we arrived. Our server, Yobani, was amazing. He not only provided excellent service but also took the time to get to know us a little, which added such a thoughtful personal touch. We were celebrating my boyfriend's birthday and it really felt special. The food and drinks were phenomenal. We started with the rib eye quesadilla, which was flavorful and delicious. This resort is designed so well and the views are great. The service is also great here. Most importantly, the food is AMAZING. I got the Lomo Saltado, which is originally a Peruvian dish. I've tried plenty of Lomo Saltados before, including in Peru itself, but this was the best take on Lomo Saltado I've ever seen. The meat was so tender and the sauce was so flavorful. Would definitely recommend trying this! The churros for dessert was awesome. The presentation is super cool and was super fun to share with the table. The first night of our stay we had dinner at Comal. Delicious!! Everything was amazing. In the evening the restaurant vibe is really sexy and during the day it's pretty casual. The bar was able to make me a lychee martini. I don't know how they made it but it was great. They are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I had my breakfast here every morning. Astounding views with excellent service. You can sit table side by the ocean and have such a memorable dining experience. To start I had an aperol spritz paired with the tuna tartare appetizer. Both were fresh and phenomenal. For my main course I had the chicken mole dish. The mole was fruity and unique in the best ways. To finish we split the churros. They really hit the spot and I highly recommend them with the caramel sauce. The views, service, and quality of each dish is well worth the price point. We took a trip over from our hotel (Esperanza) to Chileno Bay and decided to eat breakfast at Comal. The views and decor are absolutely stunning. The hostess and wait staff are incredibly friendly. The place was busy, and it took us about 20 minutes or so to be seated. Once we were seated it did take some time for them to bring menus, bring water, refill water, take orders, bring out the orders, etc. Really, the dining experience was 3 stars, but the views and decor make up for it. My food was okay; definitely not as flavorful as the food we were eating at Esperanza every day, but the presentation was nice. If you have plans post-meal, then give yourself enough time just in case they are super busy. read more

Came here for breakfast. I'm not a coffee drinker, but I tried the cinnamon iced coffee and I think I know why people drink coffee. It was so good, with a nice think foam and kind of tasted like horchata. They start with a lemon English muffin and fresh butter which was amazing. My husband got the chorizo omelet which comes with a side of bacon, potatoes, whole black beans and a salad. I got the baja burrito which was really good and came with refried black beans, my absolute favorite. I don't mind paying when the food is good or ingredients are crazy unique or high quality, but it was very average. The stuffed plantains were flat out awful, tasted like they put baby food underneath a dried out plantain. The food took 90 minutes to arrive after we ordered. A friend of ours told us to visit Comal for dinner while we were staying in Cabo, and luckily we were able to. Walking in we were stunned by the beautiful decor and gorgeous open seating area. Comal overlooks the ocean, and is in a prime location to watch the sun set over the water. While we waited for our food to arrive, our waiter brought us a lovely little appetizer of corn tortillas with an avocado spread. It was amazing! Honestly I would have been fine eating that all night. The tortillas came on a stand with a fire underneath to keep them warm. We ordered the Beet Salad, Whole Grill Red Snapper, Grilled Corn and Beef Tenderloin. Everything was delicious and very fresh. It was the perfect amount of food for the four of us to share as well. The service was incredible. Our waiters were Edgar Garcia and Jack. They never failed to impress with their timely visits and positive attitudes. The only downside was the flies. The entire time we were eating we were swatting flies away from the food. It certainly took away from the otherwise relaxing atmosphere. It's a shame that we had to deal with them the whole night. My wife then called them to verify and tell them it was a special occasion (we beat cancer this year) & brought friends with us only to learn the restaurant was closed for two weeks for remodeling. We visit Cabo, Mexico 1-2 times a year and Comal is our most favorite restaurant for its food presently. Dining out on the terrace was lovely especially at sunset which sets much sooner during the fall season. We had dinner here five nights and two breakfasts during our holiday, and 9 out 10 plates served were perfection. The lightings and ambiance was very cozy with romantic relaxed vibes. Reservation: We were told it's a must to reserve our dining reservations prior to our stay which we did. We noticed only half as full each evening at best which was interesting. You really do not need advance reservations. If you enjoy dining out on the terrace with a view, we agreed it is worthwile to come early for the best table as the space is limited especially with solo table for deuce. Most guest tables were set for groups of four or more unless you don't mind rubbing elbows. It appears the restaurant does not draw as much couple dining versus bigger groups and based on the number of couple guests we sees here at the resort, most venture into town in the evening or dining at the taco bar by the pool. Food and Beverages: We give the chefs 5 star on their creative dishes and the fresh quality prepared to perfection. 3.5 stars for the cocktail drinks. We felt the cocktails were quite light on alcohol and not as inventive or impressive on presentation. Honestly, we expected to be impressed with their cocktails as the bar is very lovely and extensive in size--the scene you encournter as you enter the restaurant. The pricing value justified the foods but not for the drinks. Service: A couple of food servers were very polite and sweet and deserving of 4 stars though our main waiter's services on every evening were disappointing. Each dining experience, our waiter pretty much took our order and gone until the check drop. There were very little to no interactions all five evenings and breakfasts leaving us to flag down if we needed anything. Lacking of attentiveness in checking in on how we enjoy our foods, how our evening is going, etc... They only stop by for a second to see if you need drinks refill and split which was disappointing based on the restaurant's popularity. Our overall dining experience with wait staff is 3.5 stars. We certainly will be back only if we are staying on site as this is the only restaurant to dine at the resort aside the taco bar by the pool. You would have to go roughly 7 miles to an outside solo restaurant or there is a hotel next door if you want to venture over but there is more and more construction forever going on in Cabo. Generally, it is better than your standard resort fair, but other hotels (example Manta at the Cape) or restaurants offsite have more creative food and a better value. Came to this gem on my birthday 7/31/20, and it was definitely a great choice! Let me start by saying that the resort where this restaurant is located is amazingly beautiful! The views are spectacular! Absolutely gorgeous and worthy of taking endless amounts of pictures. Especially during sunset! The colors in the sky that we saw here were unreal and unlike anywhere else we've seen. We came early to have a few drinks before dinner and we did not regret it. The drinks were so good and the bartender was great, knowledgeable and accommodating. When we finally went to our table about an hour later, it was perfect!! The view was great, and our waiters definitely made the experience next level for us. The food was amazing!! For appetizers we had first the Beef Tartare that came with quail eggs on top. I'm not much of a fan of tartares as I'm not much of a raw food eater, however those were great! Very juicy and fresh! No complaints. We also had the Doraditas (I apologize, no pictures of that dish, we went right in!) omg you NEED to order the Doraditas! They were soooo good! It is the perfect bite of flavor and spices and perfection. It is a must order! For entrees, I had the Waygu Beef which I did not need my knife for whatsoever. It was sooo tender and juicy, and the corn romesco on the side was the perfect compliment. My husband ordered the Octupus "a la brasa" with the salsa verde which he loved. For dessert, they brought a lovely cake for my birthday with sparklers and all you can imagine! The cake and ice cream topper were unbelievable. So fresh, so creamy and rich. It definitely sealed the deal for me. I honestly have no complaints of Comal. From the service of our waiters to the amazing food and the attention to detail, it was a perfect birthday evening. Side note: The only thing that was a bit weird for us was unfortunately having some issues with the hostess. We had a reservation that was done a days prior to our dinner, on arrival we mentioned that it was my birthday and we would like to have a table as close as possible to the water with a view. We brought or mid 20s sons and daughter-in laws to our favorite Cabo restaurant and it did not disappoint. Both typically tight-lipped couples were left open mouthed by the atmosphere, service and food. Just awesome. Tables were safely spaced and mostly outside, and all staff had masks. read more

My brother and his wife stayed here a month ago and recommended it for dining, we were astounded by the kind and welcoming reception as we drove up in our little rent a car, from the guard at the gate to the server, when we pulled in we were greeted with a "welcome home" while the valet introduced himself and offered a tour while he pointed out the local points of interests, we went for breakfast and had the chorizo quesadilla and the pancakes, service, food, coffee, view were amazing!! I'm usually a bit weary of hotel food, even at nice resorts as I've found there to be better value off-resort. However, given Comal's reputation we decided we had to give it a try for dinner during our stay at the Chileno Bay. We arrived close to 7 PM and were seated in the nicely-appointed outdoor dining area, with a terrific view of the Sea of Cortez. Instead of bread, our waiter brought over fresh green corn tortillas and butter, which gave our meal a distinctive Mexican flare to start. We started with the Faro and the Quinoa salads, both of which provided a unique and tasty combination of flavors leaving us excited for our mains. For the main, we shared the Mixed Grill which turned out to be a fantastic choice. Served on a smoky bed of hot coals, the mixed grill included red snapper, seared yellowfin tuna, colossal shrimp, a juicy piece of ribeye and perfectly-cooked octopus. Also on the grill were sides of asparagus, purple potatoes, and scallion, all of which were accompanied by a handful of dipping sauces ranging from Peruvian ahi to Argentinian chimichurri to a red wine reduction. In short, many restaurants aim to achieve the rich mix of Latin flavors that Comal also strives for; few are able to accomplish this goal as well as Comal! Also will add a note that we had breakfast three times in Comal. Each morning they start you off with a delicious basket of "gorditas," which are Mexican sweet biscuits. The huevos motulenos and ricotta pancakes were my favorites of our breakfasts. The motulenos were served in a well-balanced red sauce and the pancakes were light and fluffy. The highlight of my trip to Cabo! Every detail, every morsel, every sip. Wow. When you walk in to the open air restaurant, you'll notice that all the trees have macramé lights hanging in them, and the walls are studded with candles. It's just beautiful, especially with the sea and crashing waves right there as a juxtaposition to the flickering light. We started at the bar for a cocktail. I tried a gin drink with grapefruit shrub and tonic. OMG -- it was out of this world...exactly the right level of tart and refreshing. I wasn't finished with my cocktail before our table was ready, so the waitstaff brought a tray to carry my drink over to the table. When we got to the table, overlooking the Sea of Cortez, the waitstaff brought over a purse stand, so I could hang my bag. They brought an amuse buche of cacao tortillas with guacamole on a comal and explained how a comal is used in cooking in Mexico. For dinner, we had the ceviche negro (amazing), local grilled fish, Peruvian style filet, dorititas and a salad with peaches. Every dish was balanced and executed perfectly. The only thing I would forewarn is that wine prices were high. As in out of this world high. But, all the small touches and attention to detail during our meal made up for the fact that we were paying astronomical prices. There's a price. It's worth it, if you're looking for Latin American and Mexican haute cuisine. If you're looking for margs and chips and salsa, this isn't your place. read more

This hotel and restaurant are living in lala land. Yes, the food and service was excellent and that's the only reason I'm giving it 2 stars instead of 1. Our waiter Fernando was extremely attentive. That being said, there is zero Covid policy here. If you want to be at a place where they think Covid does not exist, Comal is your place to be. There is no mask policy whatsoever. When we asked the receptionist why hardly any of the guests weren't wearing masks outside of sitting at their table, the response we received was this..."we do temperature checks and have hand sanitizer stations so we know our guests do not have Covid, so there isn't a mask policy...". Let that steep in for a second. How about any of those guests who go out on the town, say a place like Senor Frogs and just so happen to get infected with Covid...then come back that night without a fever...and infect the entire hotel, restaurant, staff and guests because they didn't have a fever (let alone show any other symptoms). The idiocy of this management policy is asinine to say the least. From an upscale resort I expected much better and had I known I would've never gone. I hope other people read this review and think twice about going here during Covid times...because their policy is as risky as you can get. Get it together!!! read more
