Whitfield House - View from our bedroom window - rolling countryside and Ludlow Castle in the distance

Located only a short walk (no more than 10 minutes) from the centre of Ludlow, Whitfield House has…read morea decidedly rustic feel. It has a large, beautifully maintained garden with views of Ludlow Castle and a local church. The garden abuts several green fields, in one of which cows graze. There is a small wooden table and chairs at which it is very pleasant to sit and relax and admire the wonderful view. My friends and I were served morning coffee there. It's all delightfully bucolic. The house itself is a large detached building, circa 1930. There are three spacious bedrooms. I stayed in The Lawrence, which is basically a suite of rooms - a bedroom, a bathroom and a separate toilet - with its own door. It was extremely comfortable, with all mod cons, eg a television and tea and coffee making facilities. Breakfast, which is freshly cooked to order and delicious, is served in a room downstairs. The proprietors are very warm and friendly. Nothing is too much trouble for them. Prices are very reasonable - I paid £65 a night for sole occupancy of my suite of rooms. Whitfield House is excellent value for money. It's the best B&B establishment I have stayed at (and I've been to a fair few!). I recommend it unreservedly.

A gravelled drive leads you to the front of the house, which is surrounded by mature trees and we were greeted on arrival by the owner's friendly dog 'Rodney Rocket'! After a very welcome cup of tea and piece of cake, the owner talked us through some of the best places to visit or to eat in the area, like the Ludlow Food Centre and the Jolly Frog restaurant; both of which we tried and were well worthy of their recommendation. Our room, the 'Lawrence Room' was quite sizeable, with a separate toilet and bathroom, with a cavernous bath, and the sun-soaked main room, had a feeling of space and a comfortable king size bed. Of course, not forgetting the amazing views, over into the landscaped tiered garden, the rolling fields beyond and Ludlow Castle in the distance. A decent sized TV and a good selection of tea and coffee too. Breakfast was served in an equally impressive room, with wood panel walls and well spaced tables. A great variety of fruit, cereals and fruit juices to start, and then a great Full English Breakfast, making full use of local produce, one of the nicest I've had for some time; the scrambled eggs were particularly fine! The owners and staff were friendly and helpful, and the walk into the centre of Ludlow was just right, at about 10 minutes. Whitfield House is a such a peaceful and restful place to escape from the hustle and bustle of modern life; waking up to just the sound of the birds in the morning was fantastic.

Lovely Breakfast. cosy Breakfast room allowing all the guests to chat... How nice.. Usually people ignore me. Fantastic Free Wi-Fi. Toiletories. Towels. The rooms were equipped with trouser press. Hair Dryer. Tea / Coffee. Nice Cookies... Fantastic ... I have a pet hate for non en-suite hotel rooms. The room in the Central Guest house I was in was not En-suite, I had to go across the hallway to a shower room, which at first made me squirm. It was exclusive to me. Which was a relief. The point I want to make is. Don't be put off by a non en-suite room. Its not as bad as it seems. It was a pain to run across the hallway in the middle of the night, desperate for No1 & No2. Just made it.. Reminded me of a movie I watched with Jodi Foster. Having to lock one room to run across the hallway to open the other. (Yes I had to lock my room and unlock the loo every time). (In the end I just left the loo door open.) It was exciting and scary..... I was worried in case I bumped into anyone lurking in the shadows. Sadly no lurkers ! ( What a shame. I was kind of looking forward to some midnight Mania). On the whole. I enjoyed my stay and would do it again. Recommend this Guest House. The owners are a great source of conversation, Very friendly. Meet and Greet was above any 5* hotels I have stayed with... Great Job Marlene & Mike.

Guy and Jan are fabulous hosts and really understand how to renovate, decorate, equip, run, and manage a B and B. Such wonderful attention has been paid to the design of the rooms. Spectacular hand-made beds, terrific lighting and fixtures. Well designed and comfortable bathrooms. The property is clean and the breakfasts are amazing. Jan and Guy come from a long background in the hospitality business, and it shows. They and their staff work extraordinarily hard to keep the place spotless and running smoothly. The Inn is perfectly located so that you can see all of the great spots in town and the area and consume massive quantities of good food and beer "downtown" and then have a nice stroll to walk it off afterwards. The scrumptious breakfasts, wonderfully caring owners/staff, and beautiful accommodations make Lamb Inn Guesthouse a B&B that we will return to whenever we can. If they put a pub in the lower level in the future, I might not even leave the property! Four enthusiastic thumbs-up from us. BTW, ask Guy about what the inverted peace sign means. Best wishes to you both!
