I was prediabetic and she referred me to a nutritionist who helped me with my diet and when I had my next A1C / it came back normal. One of the things I really love about her is she listens when I talk to her about my health issues and she makes recommendations. I chose this practice because it was close to my home and Dr Ylonka was in-network of my insurance. Upon arriving at the practice, the staff promptly took my insurance info and charged $15 for the copay. I paid with my credit card. During the consultation with Dr. Ylonka, she suggested that I do an annual physical exam. She looked some things up on her computer and confidently said, "GHI (my insurance company) covers the annual physical exams. If you do it today, you don't even have to pay the copay. My staff will refund you the copay on your way out." Huge mistake for not double checking with my insurance company that the physical is indeed covered in my insurance, and the most expensive one I've made in my life. On my way out, the staff cancelled my earlier payment of $15. By this action, it was clear that they were sure that the staff thought my insurance was coverkng the physical exam in full, unless they already knew it wasn't covered and wanted to sham their new patient. The $15 was credited back to my account 3 days later, of which I have the record. Two months later, I get a bill from Dr. Ylonka's practice of $250, the steepest price tag I've heard for an annual physical exam. I called them to inquire of it, I simply get the the same line: "Our record indicates that you came in wanting a physical and therefore it is your sole responsibility that you came in with a full knowledge of physical exam coverages of your insurance. Therefore, we are not at fault." No. No matter how many times I tell them to stop lying (I did not schedule a physical. The doctor suggested performing the physical by misleadingly telling me that it is fully covered by my insurance) and explain the record of the copay being credited back, they do not have an answer. They simply read the line again... "Our record shows that..." Your record can say anything you like but wouldn't mean much since it doesn't explain the cancellation of the copay. Shame on them. I really hope the doctor does not do this knowingly and regularly to read off from patients. Shameful for bold face lying of the staffs. Also, it took them more than a week to come up with that "Our record..." line. Before they came up, their previous line was "we will call you back when we find out tomorrow." They never called me back. I always had to call to inquire. On the phone with the practice yesterday, the staff did mention that the doctor "sometimes gets confused" of what is covered by insurances or not. I asked back if that is a good enough excuse to first tell all patients that everything is covered and then later charge all. Of course, there came the expected line: "Our record shows that..."

As I was dressing, the door opened (no knock) and a women in scrubs just stared at me. I wasn't sure if it was the doctor or not. I explained that I couldn't wait any longer and she just turned around and walked out. Said nothing whatsoever. I didn't even realized she was the doctor until the nurse confirmed it on my way out. The first time I saw her I found her to be friendly and a competent doctor. This was beyond disappointing. I understand emergencies happen, but they could be honest about it and allow you to reschedule. A final note - the office is not pleasant in general. No water, no wifi, and they only accept cash.

I called the doctors clinic 2 months ago and the lady who answered the phone said I do not need to worry and she will take care of it in a day's time. A week ago I got a notice that Quest Diagnostics sent me pending dues to collections!!! I called the clinic again and the lady said she will take care of it immediately and call me back. I did not receive a call back and I have been trying to call them for the last 7 days and they just dont answer my calls! Stay away. Mistakes happen but these guys just dont respond. She was perfectly nice and spent at most 6 minutes diagnosing me. Literally. I needed tests, she said, and then concluded the visit. I went up front to pay and was informed that I owed $350. Clearly, I laughed, that was a mistake, for the visit I just had was fast and had nothing special about it. Besides, over the phone I was told $175. Well, the receptionist responded, we said they STARTED at $175; when more is done, it's more expensive. Let me remind you: NOTHING WAS DONE. $350 was a completely arbitrary number. When I balked, she said, Let me check. She came back and said, oh it's only $250. What's going on, here?

I saw Kate for a lingering issue I had been seeing another doctor for. She listened to all my concerns and made me feel very comfortable. I felt as though I could really fully discuss my symptoms openly without judgement and she was listening to every word and considering everything. On another occasion, the same problem, struck me suddenly and when I called Dr Isaacs was on his way out the door and wouldn't be back in for 2 days. I was told if I came right away they would help me out, absolutely amazing. After trying other drs I have to say Mercer Street has been the best experience in NYC for me. :)

I have been a patient of Dr Lusky since 2005. He was always professional, welcoming and friendly to…read moreme. Wilson who worked as the front desk receptionist was always pleasant and accompanying when it came to scheduling appointments and retrieving test results. Also notable was Cheri, who helped out up front as well for the care of patients in the back. That all being said, the overall office's professionalism and utmost care of patients has drastically changed for the worse with the new additional staff that was brought in. I was unknowingly assigned to Dr Pulcheri. She seemed professional at first but had many issues from prescriptions not being filled correctly when requested, to months of unavailability to see me and falsifying medical records from teladoc calls. I tried my best to accommodate her derelict of job duties but to no success. I even tried to get the new receptionist Natalie, who was hired after Wilson, to help facilitate my health needs. At first it seemed like she could handle the fast paced and demanding position of answering phones. but that was short lived. She quickly became unprofessional and contentious on the phone. She would over talk me, cut me off in mid speech and wouldn't relay my messages to Dr Pulcheri. This went on for the past year. I had to ultimately make the hard decision to leave the East Medical Practice. No ill will towards Dr Lusky or others at the practice not mentioned in my review. I just can't continue arguing with an unsuited receptionist and a doctor who seems more concerned about her travel plans and personal obligations ( as she would tell me when I visited ) than of her patients, leaving them with no medical care or alternative support.
