We had a challenging experience working with Tru Craft. During the initial walkthrough to look at…read morethe various projects, it seemed that Tru Craft would be able to handle the various jobs we had (installing recessed lighting, replacing bathroom fans, replacing ceiling fans). After work was started, we started hearing excuses/justifications as to why certain parts of the job could not be completed properly (or completed at all). Mostly they blamed us for selecting equipment (new Panasonic bathroom fans and Minka Aire ceiling fans) they they did not prefer. Similarly, they objected (after the job was started, of course) to installing Lutron dimmer switches on the recessed lighting because they did not like the style of switch we wanted (again, a major name brand that we would have expected electricians to be comfortable with). All told, they left the bathroom fans only partly installed (we had to hire another contractor to redo the work correctly) and the ceiling fans click and wobble. We were told many times that things would have gone better if this had been "new construction," which was strange considering it was clear from the beginning that the work was to be done on an existing home. They did do a good job installing the recessed lighting, which was the only part of the job that went smoothly (except for installation of the switches, which had to be completed by someone else given Tru Craft's objections around using the Lutron switches we wanted). Tru Craft may be good choice for smaller/simpler jobs, or jobs where specific equipment is not required, but we ended up needing to use another company to complete our scope of work. (For what it's worth, the other company repaired/completed Tru-Craft's work quickly and without complaint regarding the equipment).

He agreed to come out promptly (when most companies never answered), and arrived in about an hour. He was not only able to fix our emergency with ease, he also identified (with proof) that our normal HVAC company was not doing the routine cleaning that we have been paying them to do for more than 4 years. It was quite shocking, but he said that sadly he sees this all the time. His emergency rate was more than fair, he is a fantastic tech, and good conversation as well. We would not hesitate to call Matt again. Nice, genuine business owner. Note to homeowners who carry maintenance plans with HVAC companies. Check the fine print on your membership inspection points. Ask them directly if they are inspecting or cleaning the evaporative coils, checking evaporative drain pan, checking evaporative drain pipes, and cleaning the blower assembly. If these services are not included in your maintenance plan, change companies. These components are critical to furnace/AC health. Our entire emergency situation was caused because our normal HVAC company was not inspecting our evaporative coil components and a clog built up over years, causing our drip pan to overflow and water leak all over our basement. Our normal HVAC company never even opened the door on the furnace where the evaporative components are located.

Needless to say, my tenant in CO (I'm in NY) was quite frustrated. By 11:30am Matthew had responded to my call and confirmed a plan forward, despite being booked all day. By Saturday afternoon, the furnace was fixed and all was well. Matthew provided concerns about the almost-20-year-old furnace, and made sure I wanted to pay for the quick fix that Saturday, knowing I'd have to replace additional, larger parts sooner than later. He later looked at the prices of blower motors and shared those with me. I will be hiring Matthew again to do this additional work and trust he will do a good job! Thank you!
