15th St address, P St entrance - and that about sums it up.
Exorbitant prices and surly attendants.
I took a wrong turn on the way to my hair appointment, and so arrived without time to search for rock star parking on the street. Normally, I love a parking garage, even if it's a tad more expensive - no circling the block racing other cars for a spot and facing the act of parallel parking with pedestrians watching, waiting to laugh (I know, because when I'm not driving, that's what I do).
As I pull in, I read the sign - 8$ for an HOUR!?! It's too late for me to do anything else, but I make a mental note that this is not a garage for emergency use only. The attendant doesn't move as I pull in, so I assume it's a 'park first' deal... until I actually start to pull past his shed, when he suddenly waves frantically at me - while continuing his phone conversation. So I sit there as he winds down, and as he ambles my way he says, "pay first." Well, hello to you, too. I ask how much, and he replies, "15$". That is not what the sign said. I start to ask about that, but another car - a monthly parker - pulls in behind me, and he brusquely tells me to "pull forward, pull FORWARD" while filling out my ticket. The other car drives around, he puts the ticket on my windshield, I hand him a twenty, and points to a parking spot, "park first." I'm beginning to wonder if this guy can use more than two words in a row. I park and get out of the car, asking him about the price. I'm told that they charge for MORE than one hour from the start, and if I get back before my hour is up, I can get my money back - how does that make sense?
Next time, I'll make my appointment an hour later, drive home, and walk. read more
