Once you add your license plate information to the website as soon as you drive up to the garage, it must scan your license plate and recognize that you've already paid. Gate opened up immediately. I found a parking spot like almost immediately and wide enough for my expedition! When I left, and when I got to the gate, it opened immediately as well and I just took off. The conference itself was wonderful, but I was not a big fan of National Harbor. I didn't have a car, so I took the metro and bus to get to National Harbor. I walked around the area that afternoon, and it took less than two hours for me to see everything. This area is very commercial and planned, with little local flair or character. I see this mentioned in reviews from 2010-2011; well, it is still the case in 2026. The monument to our armed services was inspirational, and I found a wonderful Black-owned bookstore called Mahogany Books. But, most businesses were high-end chains. There's a pharmacy for basic needs, but most restaurants are expensive and no grocery stores are within walking distance. Thankfully, Potbelly is there for us plebes to grab a sandwich, and Mahogany Books serves delicious coffee drinks. I had plenty to do with the conference over the next three days, so it wasn't a boring trip. The bus service comes every 30 minutes or you can Uber/Lyft to a metro station like Alexandria and go into the city. On the second night of our conference, I ended up going into Alexandria with some friends, and we went to a local pizza restaurant. The next night, I visited a local Greek restaurant in Alexandria with other friends. If you're attending a conference here, do stay at a nearby hotel for convenience and also visit Mahogany Books. Otherwise, I would not spend much time at National Harbor.

We have been to a few libraries for story time and Oxon Hill is hands down the best. They do a great job picking books that engage the kiddos. Plus the music/movement breaks are always on point. The staff is always friendly, engaging, and welcoming. I adore this library and highly recommend their story time for the little humans. Let me also add that they have a great Children's book section.

Once I borrowed the thermal imaging camera to try it out. The Oxon Hill library is one of my go to libraries. Good customer service. Staff is always helpful. And it's a nice facility. They often have an art exhibit on display. There was none today but I'll be sure to look for it the next time I stop by. Currently the Branch Ave Metro is undergoing some repairs and renovations. Passengers are bussed to…read moreother metro stops via a coach bus that is either express or makes stops prior to arriving at Southern Avenue Metro Station. There is a lot of congestion for people leaving and entering since there are only a few entry points. People don't have their fare card out or find out when trying to enter/exit they have no funds on their card and have to get out of the way. The people who are supposed to clean the train do so haphazardly and do enough to look busy. Sadly, people are disrespectful and smoke marijuana on the train with no regard to kids, elders or nonsmokers. Keep your head on a swivel. When school is in session, the teenagers that ride the train are rude, can be aggressive and love to put their bags or feet in the seat when there are seniors or working folks who'd like to take a load off of their tired feet. Best advice is to keep the peace unless you have to speak up. Fare evading is real. Those who do it, do so blatantly. Security on the train is minimal and you shouldn't expect them to do much. Out of necessity, people ride the train and if other options were viable, they'd probably reconsider. However, it's a benefit to have a metro system as an alternative to driving and having to search for parking that has inflated prices.

First time, the bus arrived late and that same ride there was a homeless guy on the bus yelling at everyone racist slurs. Second time, the bus stunk because some people started smoking on the bus. I guess bus drivers don't actually care about the bus laws because they could've just thrown these people off the bus. Instead I had miserable rides back to my hotel.

I want to say thank you to all that helped put out the fire in the Oxon Hill Village Apartments on January 1, 2021@ around 830 pm. It is a good thing that you are taught at an early age to devise an escape plan in case of fire, things like feeling the door before opening, or what exit to use. That night I got out alive using those helpful life-saving steps. Within minutes I had to remember to stay calm, move swiftly but carefully. I was falling asleep in my recliner when a neighbor shouted fire get out! the command sounds simple, but it is a hard one when black smoke comes into your main escape route and your two other exits are covered in smoke and what I can only assume are pieces of my neighbor's upstairs apartment. I was falling asleep when I heard get out!, when I ran away from the black smoke at the front door I ran to my bedroom and I thank God to this day I had been procrastinating about taking my sleep medication. When I ran to my bedroom when I think back on it my bedroom looked foggy because of smoke, had I taken my medicine I never would have woken up! I am thankful every morning that I wake up! thankful? that none of my family were there. I can't even tell you how long it took to get out, but when I finally got out I got in my car, and when I was pulling out of my parking space the fire department came rolling in. It is my belief that because of The Oxon Hill Fire Departments' swift action and the Oxon Hill Village Maintenance team, the row of apartments did not blow up, it is my Firm belief life would have been lost rather than the displacement of Sixty-Five people. I took hours to put the fire out. I left our complex at about 12 am ? and those brave Men and Women were still working. When I called to get information to give to my insurance company the fire department. ent was much more helpful than the complex. My younger brother is a fireman, so I know the hours are long and have always known the job is dangerous, but how you are treated after the fire also matters. So I really want them to know that the departments of fire and ems are so appreciated. If you're not from east of the river, it's just off of the highway on your way to the National Harbor. The man who designed it is also the genius who designed the National African-American History and Culture Museum. He created this library to be "a brutalist treehouse." It stands on a hill overlooking the city and does give off the treehouse vibe. Although it's one building, it looks as if it has several towers with the majority of the space outside of the bottom floor. Once you enter, walk up the stairs to the second floor for the kids section and the top floor with the rest of the books, computers, private rooms, and community space. There are many windows letting in natural light. This library's programming is on point. They have poetry days, hip hop dance classes, and photography workshops. If you're into design and photography, this is a true hidden gem in the city.
