When I called Jack Cunningham, the owner, he said to stop by with the fixtures so he could check them out. Jack fixed the problem while I waited which turned out to be a 20 yr accumulation of dead insects that had built up inside the bulb socket. It's rare today to find not only a well made product of superior quality and workmanship like Jack's light fixtures but also the excellent customer service that Jack provides. Aside from admiring the lovely architecture I enjoyed looked at kitchen gadgets, kitchen decor, pantry items like bread mixes and such. I loved the creek of the floors too. It was a very charming experience. A lot of the furniture was definitely in the Shaker and colonial styles. The lighting section was amazing. Lots of early American inspired design lighting. I wasn't in the market for lighting so I moved on to other things. The rug section was fun to peruse. I saw they sold one of my favorite brands - Dash and Albert. They also had a lot of braided rugs. Regarding the clothing section in the refurbished barn, it wasn't really my style but it seemed like there were some regular customer in there having an absolute ball shopping for some new outfits. It kind of reminded me of the fun, comfy and colorful styles you might find at Chico's. Aside from the above, there was plenty more to look at like some linens, wall art, candles, etc. Overall, this was a fun place to explore and a great place to stop in while in Lancaster County.

A gentleman from Nolt Electric showed up to fix the front porch lights yesterday afternoon. I also had him fix one of the light fixtures in the in the meeting room that needed a new ballast and change a couple of lights that were out in the reading room. He was putting away the "good" light tubes and overheard two staff members talking about a leak in the mechanical room. The plumber had recently left for the day unable to complete the job since it required a special part. The bucket we were using to capture the drips was filling super-fast at that point. So, we were discussing the logistics of keeping it manageable while the Library was open and turning off the water when we closed. So about an hour later, around 6:30, the super electrician shows back up with a bucket/hose combo to move the water from the leak to the floor drain. The bucket was too tall....so he took it back to cut it down to size. Super Electrician to the rescue!! What a GUY!! I was so very impressed. It speaks volumes for the man and the company he works for - They exemplify "service above self"!

His name is "Bergere," after the chair, and he has become a beloved mascot in the store. Alison has been in the design business for most of her life. In fact, growing up in her parents' store in Pennsylvania, McIndoe's, is where her passion for design began. With a degree in Interior Design and lots of experience working in the design and building industry, Alison opened AK Interiors in 1996, working from her home. At the time, she was a single mom and it allowed her to be easily available. A little more than a year ago, she decided it was time to venture out and open a boutique home furnishings shoppe in Lancaster. The Shoppe at AK Interiors is staffed by owner Alison and three other employees. The 1,100-square-foot space includes offices for the design team and a room for meeting clients. AK Interiors works with all different types of customers: residential, commercial and renovations. One service that AK Interiors offers is "Room in a Day." Basically, they use clients' existing furnishings and accessories, sometimes borrowing from other rooms, and then Alison and staff design their clients' space.
