I called yesterday to make an appointment to repair an electrical problem on a new recently installed cooktop by Lowe's for a rental condo in Palm Springs. Today, they showed up and within 10 minutes diagnosed the breaker problem after checking out the cooktop and panel box. Apparently, the Lowe's installer used the wrong sized breaker. Fortunately, Jeremy, the owner of the company, had a 40 amp on his truck and within 30 minutes of his arrival, he was done and everything is operating properly. I appreciated that when I originally called the office, someone answered the phone. I enjoy doing business with a locally, owned family business. We woke Sunday morning with no power to two rooms in the house. I went outside and saw that one of the breakers tripped. I tried to reset, but it wouldn't reset. I gave it a rest and tried again later in the day with success! I thought I solved the problem.... Unfortunately no, about 5 hours later it tripped again and this time it wouldn't reset. We needed to have a 220/240 plug installed for our electric car charger and scheduled an appointment with them for the installation. Our electric panel was full but they were able to combine circuits and get us the amps we needed for the charger. We recently had occasion to contact and use Collins Electric to repair a bathroom ceiling light in an exhaust fan that stopped working. The entire experience, from making the appointment (handled by his wife) to job completion was flawless. Jeremy contacted us an hour or so before our scheduled appointment to tell us he had finished his preceding appointment earlier and was available to come by if we were home. We were, and he arrived shortly thereafter. There are trades people who immediately inspire confidence and those who don't. Jeremy is one who inspires confidence. He arrived at our front door with a ladder, his tools, and even "booties" covering his shoes, and was ready to go. The cable & internet went out at the house. Spectrum came and saw the cable wire was melted. They did some testing and said there was a grounding issue and an electrician needed to fix the grounding issue (Spectrum did replace the melted cable) so it didn't happen again. I called my Home Warranty Co who sent out a totally useless Electrican. He didn't do any investigation. At first he said the sun probably melted the wire. Then he said it was a Spectrum problem and they needed to fix it and he left. That was a waste of $85 (service fee). I called Collins Electrical. Jeremy (owner) quickly diagnosed the problem (the TV grounding wire was not connected - and he found another grounding issue while he was there) and he fixed both. I had literally scores of small jobs from replacing outlets and light switches to moving and adding outlets throughout my home. Jeremy listened carefully as I described the work to be done. He purchased parts (and apparently had a very reasonable source for them, judging by my final parts cost). He did an amazing amount of work in a day, and I was pleasantly surprised by the creative solutions he applied to problems I was having. During the day, I opened up the house and a hummingbird flew up into my 18-foot-high skylight. Jeremy Collins just installed a 6-pair speaker with amplifier system in my house and he finished the job in 75% of the time originally estimated....3 days rather than 4! The hourly rate is always relative to what actually gets done in that time and I consider Jeremy to be very high value in that respect. He always wore a mask (versus me who kept forgetting I needed it), he was considerate of me and my house and always cleaned up at the end of each day. He didn't hesitate to communicate with the equipment provider when it turned out they had failed to include a key cable in the shipment. I called the office and spoke with a nice, knowledgable gal to set up an appointment to have an estimate & work scope determined for a ceiling fan installation (there was no wiring where I wanted it) - so far so good. I waited 4 days for an available time slot which was okey with my schedule. The day of the appt. I made a special trip home from work to meet the tech ( I work 25 min away). I then get a call from the electrician at the time he was supposed to be there telling me he had a flat tire and couldn't make it and assured me the office would call to reschedule for the following day. Well - here it is 10 days later and no call back. I sure would have appreciated a call letting me know he wasn't going to show before the scheduled appt. time - saving me an unnecessary trip and wasting my time. I would have also appreciated a call back to reschedule -like I was promised. Oh well, I found another electrician off of yelp that did a great job on the ceiling fan and we additionally booked him for a bunch of landscape lighting.
