Collective Flow MKE - A yoga class is taking place in a studio with wooden floors, decorative string lights, and fabric draped from the ceiling. Participants are seated on mats, some stretching, with a DJ setup and speakers at the front.

My first introduction to CollectiveFlow MKE was through a in-Studio class in Kind Oasis and it being my first in- person yoga class in a long time in 2020, it was truly fantastic and fulfilling. Mike and Jess through their yoga classes help you not only serve your physical health but also support your spiritual and mental well being. Their classes are available in virtual and in studio. They are easy to reach and very friendly and are always open for feedback. Yoga to them is a medium to check in with other human beings and they do it really well. They do a ton of collaborations with local MKE businesses (loved locally made Miss Mary's cocktails after yoga) which have been incredibly eye opening. Their yoga studio is inside Kind Oasis which is a local CBD business (a must visit after yoga). Consider CollectiveFlow MKE as your home for all your physical, mental, spiritual needs, I have benefitted immensely from this business, I hope you do to! ‍

Two potted plants are placed on a wooden table in front of a wall with a sign that says 'FLOW'. A hanging plant is suspended nearby, and a black object is behind the plants.

Especially as we move into the…read morecolder months, this place offers a brief almost mini tropical vacation from the brutal midwestern winters. It's a niche exercise facility obviously...you're basically coming there for hot yoga -- the regular class, slow flow, candlelight or beginner - all those are pretty self explanatory. They also do lots of workshops that are fun and generally on the weekends. Their sound system always seems on point- never too loud or too soft. Each teacher has their own style of playlist but I usually love all the music choices here. if you haven't take yoga classes (esp hot yoga classes) you may balk at prices but from going to other places, their prices are some of the most reasonable in the city. And if you're not sure and are new you can try the "10 days for $10" special where you can try out as many classes as you like in 10 daysfor 10$. It's hot in the studio (seems to go anywhere from the 80s to over 100)so bring a mat sized towel (and maybe a small one too)a long with your mat cuz you're probably gonna sweat! Don't have one? bring a beach towel - that works too! or rent or buy one from the studio. You can also rent or buy mats, and they sell other little accessories and water. Props for class are free for use. Only thing to remember is there's no showers-just changing rooms and bathrooms, and parking is pretty much street-only (with a lot of it being metered.) I'd highly recommend walking or biking. Namaste, yelpers! .

Even in the dead of winter, my best friends and I made a commitment to attending hot yoga sessions. When we arrived, we walked into the facility, and there were areas to place our belongings and shoes. The room we did yoga in was large, and had mirrors lining the walls. The classes were packed, so spacing our mats was hard, but we made room. Shows how popular it was! We began with beginner sessions and moved up to harder classes. I had a great time and loved how calm I felt after! We also took classes that were simple flow and stretch. I have not returned since COVID but I did enjoy my time at this facility! The instructors were respectful of my space and gave good tips for modifications.

My goal was to strengthen my muscles in preparation for surgery, and moderate the pain if possible. I continued with 2 sessions each week, haven't yet needed surgery, and am not in pain. This is not a cure, but being able to delay surgery is money in the bank for me. Now, it's another year later, and I'm still showing up twice a week. Dee helped me with my recovery from a broken leg and serious orthopedic surgery this last year. I have a lousy pattern going here. I'm extremely limited in the progress I've made, compared to normal folks. Dee has been able to accommodate my meager progress the entire time. My doctors were not encouraging when I started Pilates. I'd tried Yoga, repeatedly got injured and was unable to recover. Physical Therapy didn't help. So, It was purely experimental when I bought a trial package and dragged my sorry self to try Pilates. I can't imagine they want more customers like me, but I'd recommend her services without reservation.

My experience at Riverwest Yogashala was very negative. Everyone, no matter what your yoga background (unless you've studied Iyengar before) is required to take the 12 week intro class. I found myself mixed in with people with absolutely no experience, which I felt held back the progress of the group. Every single thing had to be explained in minute detail. Splitting the class to absolute beginner and people with experience in other yoga styles would have been much better. I also found the instructor and her assistant to be very self-absorbed. Before classes started I made a point of telling the instructor that I have some deformities of the foot. For a studio that says it prides itself on it's staffs knowledge of the body, I was horrified when the instructor looped a yoga strap around my big toe and MANUALLY tried to rotate it into "proper" alignment. It incident was both inappropriate and embarrassing, to say the least! The studio space itself is spacious, however in my opinion, very dirty. There always seemed to be a dust bunny hopping around the room or a hairball of someone else's hair drifting across the floor. Because it is on a main through fare and not air conditioned, in the summer the street noise from the open windows or the noise makes it impossible to hear the teacher. Students are also often required to gather around the instructor to watch her demonstrate the post, people were constantly standing on and walking across other people's mats which I found to be unsanitary to say the least. Sorry to say, I would not recommend this place.

I went deeper into my practice after just several months of Iyengar Yoga here than I did in years of practicing other styles of yoga. The instructors guide each student individually to ensure the postures are being done correctly. You'll be in good hands at Riverwest Yogashala.
