I first enrolled my daughter in January of 2022 after having a not so great experience with a previous child care so I was a bit nervous but hopeful that this would be smooth transition. I have been so happy with the level of care and attention that Teacher Alma has provided. It is apparent that she loves what she does which reassures me that my girl is in good hands. I always feel content that she is being well cared for. Alma is very knowledgeable and has helped me advocate for my daughter. She provides healthy, tasty meals/snacks and the areas children are in always look well kept and safe. When my daughter is having a hard time, Teacher Alma is very warm & nurturing. Always communicates thoroughly. I love the activities Teacher Alma provides for the children and the way she has designed her classroom. Lots of natural materials, open-ended opportunities, and all is at the child's level. She's always interacting with the children, especially during music and movement! Our daughter Camila started at Colibri a few months ago. I cannot say enough of how amazing Teachers Alma and Erika are. My daughter has a different learning style for her speech and Ms Alma and Ms Erika were interested in what they could do to support her speech at school and how to help continue her speech therapies while there. They always communicate with us about all concerns and positives and are extremely kind to the children. This is our third daycare experience because nothing else was the right fit. In this environment my shy daughter got a best friend, is learning Spanish, and thriving. I trust this school and the teachers here so much for everything they've done for my daughter. We've had our daughter enrolled in the Colibri program for almost 3 months now. This was the first time we would have someone outside our family watch our 4 your old and we were very apprehensive about the preschools we had previewed and visited around the city of Norwalk. We finally came across Alma's programs, and it has been the biggest blessing since our move. She communicates, she understands the difficulties of parenting, she is thoughtful, sweet with the kiddos, and works hard to make the days fun and interesting for my daughter and the other children. The hours she offers work with my 10hr shifts, and her fees for the day (which include 3 home-cooked snacks a day) are more than reasonable. I would highly recommend Alma's program to anyone in the area in search of a safe and beautiful daycare program. read more

My updated review is based on the three days my daughter attended. Bottom line: child day care is not for the faint hearted Parent. I am speaking for myself. First day: I informed Alma my daughter had just finished her antibiotics so her poo was still not formed. Mushy in consistency. Luckily, my daughter wasn't sent home early due to her mushy poop. They have a policy to keep or bring the child home if they had 3 loose stools in 24/hours for other children well being. Even though my daughter had visited a couple times prior to the big day, she still ended up crying when I dropped her off. I won't lie, it was very heart wrenching as I left my crying child. It was intermittently eating me up inside all day. Alma was kind enough to quickly message me an update on her wailing status. It seemed like once that moment passed, she was better. I let Alma know I wouldn't bug her too much since I am a helicopter parent. In the afternoon, when my husband picked her up. He let me know that she had a pretty bad bum rash. I was quite concerned because bums rashes are the hardest to resolve. Later that evening when we gave her a shower, I saw the rash and when applying medication, she was crying big tear drops and it further broke my heart. This made me very upset to see her in so much pain. The next day when I dropped her off, I spoke to Alma about my concern with the rash. She responded that many of the kids have had the same type of poo after being on antibiotics and it is irritating to the skin. I understood this but was still not happy it occurred after one day of day care. I asked her to change the diaper even if indicator line is only a little blue. She told me she will inform her sister in law Erica to check more frequently. Like the previous day, she still cried when I left but the bum rash was not worsened after the day. I was feeling a lot better. Since this was our families first grandbaby going to day care, everyone heard about the situation and was looking around for anyone who may be able to help watch her. Fast forward 3 days to Friday. My husband said we may have a potential family member who may be available to watch my daughter during the week but not yet confirmed. He would find out in the afternoon. I Informed Alma her bum rash was a lot better and that our care situation may be changing according to what my husband hears later in the afternoon. My daughter still cried very hard when I left that day but as always, calmed down soon after I left and enjoyed the kids company. Later that afternoon, I got the good news that my husband aunt was able to watch our daughter for free during the week. Even though I felt socialization would be beneficial to her, I was glad we were able to find someone to be at home with her. My husband informed Alma we would be using her services on a day rate basis (if available) in the case his aunt needed a day off or two. Conclusion, I am very grateful that Alma was able to give me an idea of what an in home child day care is like and being so accommodating to new parents. She provided my daughter was fun activities, nutritious meals and the kids provided the socialization and interaction for necessary growth and development. Alma was also very supportive with my coping when it came to my daughter crying every day I left her. She advised me it would take about 2 weeks for her to adjust to a more comfortable place and trust and have patience with the system in place. I really tried my best but like I said, I am so thankful we had a family member offer to watch her during the day. I did dock one star due to the bum rash ordeal after the first day because I would be lying to myself if I hadn't. It was bothersome but I am very glad Alma and Erika did everything they could after I addressed my concerns to ensure it only improved in condition and not worsen. I would recommend A&E and will utilize them in the future if the needed arises because I know Alma's heart is in the right place. She really does this because she loves it. My daughter has been going to Alma for almost a month now and she loves it. Alma communicates very well and sends lots of pictures, and let's me know what the three meals are for the day. Thankfully my daughter isn't a picky eater and enjoys her meals. Though it was hard to put my daughter in daycare, Alma reassure me that my daughter will do great in a new environment. read more

Both Alma and Esme are very attentive and compassionate and treat your children as if they are their own. The owner (Alma) is very approachable and responsive, always does her best to help you in any way she can! Love getting pictures of my daughter of the fun activities they do through out the day. When I moved to Norwalk in December 2020 I was very nervous about placing my daughter into daycare in the middle of a pandemic. I was also nervous because my daughter had only been taken care of by family. My husband and I took a tour of the in home facility and immediately felt at ease. It was also important to me that my daughter be taught in Spanish as we are bilingual family. Alma went above and beyond with our daughter. Her vocabulary improved drastically. Every day my daughter came home speaking in advanced Spanish vocabulary. The care and dedication that Alma puts into her school is evident in the arts and crafts, projects, and special momentos that were sent home. For Christmas, We received a beautiful card with my daughters picture on it. For Mother's Day she sent home a gift and a card that made me cry. My daughter loves Alma very much and it was nice to to go to work knowing my daughter was in good hands. My daughter adjusted quickly to the daycare and to Alma. I highly recommend this daycare to anyone in Norwalk or the surrounding cities. read more

My 15 month old daughter just started at this home-based daycare and I couldn't be any happier! Alma and her daughters are so sweet and caring! I was afraid that my daughter is so little and would struggle with the new schedule and environment, but I was absolutely wrong - my daughter is very happy and well stimulated at this daycare. First day after her daycare she came home and wouldn't stop talking and playing with us. Well, in her own 15 month old language :) I also get pictures of my baby from Alma and she responds very quickly to my texts and calls. She also gives daily report cards - very nice touch. Alma is wonderful. She did such a great job reassuring my daughter (and me!) during my daughter's first experience with day care. She texts photos to show how your child is doing and is always super responsive. The space is so well set up for children and the outside play opportunities are excellent as well! I really felt comfortable with my child in Alma's care. Unfortunately we couldn't continue to use A & E because my ever-changing work locations dictated that we find care near my husband's job but I highly recommend them. read more

I rate this program a 5 star because all I can say are good things about everything. Mrs.Alma is very caring and responsible teacher. My daughter (3 yrs old) has been attending this Child Care program for a year and my family and I couldn't be any happier for being so attentive to my little girl. I love how she has her home day care set up with areas for the children to explore and experience their surroundings. My daughter is always busy doing something and never bored. The home day care always seems clean, nurturing and ready for the children. She provides outdoor time, nap time and home style meals and that's something important for me. My baby loves going to Mrs.Alma and talks about her daily. Most of the days my baby never wants to leave her day care and that tells me she feels loved and cared for by Mrs. Alma and her girls. Before our son was born we looked for a child care Close to our work. We came across A&E Family Child Care we met with Alma and we fell in love with the day care and Alma's way of teaching. We loved that she also spoke Spanish and taught our son Spanish. Our son has attended A&E since he was 6 weeks old. Our experience has been amazing. Alma took care of our son like her own. It really is a family oriented daycare with lots of learning via play-based, child-lead, exploration of materials and environment. Our son is now attending kinder and has an advantage thanks to Alma and her teachings she really prepared him for the next level. I've been a stay at home mom ever since my first born came into our lives, and now as a mom of two I often found myself in need of a little more independence. I was able to find a job, yet since I never had anybody (outside of the family) watch my kids, just having anybody be their care provider was a challenge in itself, these days it's hard to find a trustworthy person to care for the most valuable beings we have as parents, our kids. Yet in the search for a daycare for my kids, I came across A & E family Child care learning center. At first I wasn't sure what about them called so much of my attention, but while beginning to talk to Alma I realized what about them I liked so much, I felt comfortable. Alma has such a soft-spoken way about her, you can tell she enjoys what she does. Even though we began our correspondence on a weekend, she took time out of her days off to schedule a tour as soon as possible, she definitely works with the parents! As soon as I met face to face I had a sense of peace, I didn't want to leave my kids in just any "daycare center" per say, but Alma opens her home to provide a safe and loving environment for the kids. I cannot stress enough how hard it hit me, the thought of leaving my kids behind to work, but Alma and her team are one of a kind. They are loving, caring and passionate about their job. Although it wasn't a smooth transition for us (kids are used to mommy staying at home) Alma & her team worked with us to ease the process. Patience is definitely their virtue! Their center is definitely children oriented, molded for learning through fun! Because after all, kids will be kids. I felt safe and comfortable with the Ladies of A & E providing the care my kids needed while I was at work.
