I struggled for almost 2 months to get anything taken care of for my knee and was sent from one place to another - a friend recommended MidAmerica when I realized my son also needed to be seen due to a sports related injury. Everything moved smooth and quick for him so when I felt I was out of options and pretty hopeless my husband said "let's just call them and try to get you in" that was Friday and they had me booked for a Monday appointment. Saw Dr Meizel - he let me know my options and we opted for surgery. Staff was great because I'm not good with surgeries - tend to get panicky and they were very kind and understanding. Surgery on Tuesday and started therapy that Friday. I'm just over 6 weeks and have started walking thanks to Jess, Hannah and the crew in the therapy dept. they're all really great, listen to concerns, talk you through things and are the hype team I needed to even mentally survive this whole situation. Haven't really dealt with anyone that I could really complain about. Maybe some people aren't as cheerful as others but not all of us absolutely love our jobs so I get it. HIGHLY recommend and will send everyone that ever is looking for orthos their way.

I fell at work and suffered an injury and was sent to MidAmerica Orthopedics in Palos Hills. I had…read moreto see two specialists, one for my hand and wrist and another for my hip. The day after the fall I was experiencing pain in my shoulder, wrist, and hip and groin area. The doctor I saw for my hand and wrist provided an order for occupational therapy, which has worked wonders for improving my wrist mobility. I later had a CT scan and was seen by Dr. Kevin Lindsay-Rivera and PA Alexandrea Bosen. During that visit we reviewed the CT scan and Dr. Lindsay-Rivera explained the different types of tears and possibilities that could be causing my pain. During that same visit I informed both Dr. Kevin Lindsay-Rivera and PA Alexandrea Bosen about all of the areas where I was experiencing pain. Dr. Lindsay-Rivera performed a physical exam and when he moved my right leg inward I felt a sharp pain. He stopped the exam and suggested getting an MRI to see if there was a tear or anything further going on. At that point PA Bosen stated that she would clear me to return to work. I explained again that I was still in pain. Her response felt very condescending, as if I was trying to stay off work rather than explaining that I was genuinely in pain. The visit ended with her saying that we would schedule a follow up appointment on March 5, 2026 and re evaluate then. I had the MRI completed at an outside imaging facility because workers compensation only covers certain locations. On March 5, 2026 at 8:00 a.m. I arrived for my appointment with the MRI disc. The staff took the disc and then realized that the imaging center had not sent over the written report. Because of that, I was not seen and I was not evaluated. I explained that my pain had actually gotten worse. Once again I felt dismissed and was told they would contact me with their findings. I called multiple times to get an update because I needed to report back to my job with the results. I eventually spoke with PA Bosen and again I felt dismissed when I explained the situation. She became defensive and said, "From an orthopedic point, you are okay to return to work. We understand that you are in pain but we cannot help you with that." I explained that saying I was clear to return to work would make my employer believe I had been fully evaluated and found to be fine. The next day, March 6, I went back to the office to get a work note because I had been dismissed the day before without an exam or even a proper conversation. I was told that Dr. Lindsay-Rivera was out of the office and that I could not get a note because his documentation had not yet been finalized. I then spoke with the workers compensation coordinator, Cris Garcia. She told me she would take care of it on Monday, March 9, when the doctor returned to the office. Monday passed with no update. On Tuesday morning around 9:30 a.m. I called again and was told that the doctor had not responded to her the day before. Later that afternoon, around 4:00 p.m., my job called and informed me that I had been released back to work and was advised to follow up with my primary care physician because the injury supposedly did not appear to be related to the fall. They even suggested it might be something internal such as ovarian pain or appendicitis. At that point I felt completely ignored and made to feel like a liar. Last week I had my annual appointment with my primary care physician and explained the fall and the pain I have been experiencing. Her response was, "That sounds like a groin strain or a hip joint injury. Did they give you a referral to a sports medicine doctor or physical therapy?" I told her no and that they were simply trying to release me back to work. She then asked, "Even though you are still experiencing pain?" My primary care physician knows my medical history and did not jump to conclusions about appendicitis or ovarian pain. In all my years of seeking medical care, this is the first time I have ever felt dismissed and possibly biased against by medical professionals. I truly hate that I still have to return there to see the hand specialist. I do not want to walk through the doors of that facility again. I ultimately had to advocate for myself with my employer and request a second opinion. That is something I should not have had to do if the providers had simply listened to me as a patient.

While doing my exercises, they're with the next patient or typing their notes in the computer. Not enough equipment for that many patients. I had to repeat therapy because they didn't have me do effective exercises. I used a pulley for exercise then sat in a chair for the rest of my session doing exercises. I could do that at home! I did my second round of PT at Fyzical on Archer. I highly recommend going there for therapy. The therapist works only with you not with four people at the same time. The therapists are watching you do your therapy and they will correct you if you do not do it properly. They are not talking to each other. They are focused only on the patient. Nice clean facility and very focused on the individual patient. RUN FROM ATI, they are there to socialize with each other not work.

I will be starting at Shirley Ryan in three weeks for real therapy to help my pain. My experience started out great with Sean & Jake and then and got worse for me after being scheduled with certain therapists and when I showed up for the appointments I was given to someone else. We discussed dry needling for my shoulder/neck issue. I received one session when I should have received four. ONE session isn't going to help, it has to be multiple but I couldn't get the sessions because I was handed off to therapists who weren't certified in dry needling. I was original scheduled with Jake or Sean when appointments were set up so they rescheduled me without my approval with other therapists. THIS PLACE IS A JOKE! No professionalism at all. They sit in a group (clique) when patients are doing their exercises instead of watching the patients. They just set a timer and wait for it to go off then go back to the patient, IF THEY HEAR IT. I had to always go tot the therapist and let them know I was done. They yell across the floor to patients. Sarcastic comments are made to each other in front of patients. There's a time to play and it's not with a room full of patients. I've had to walk around looking for the therapist after my set was done. One therapist, who thinks he's the class clown, kept telling patients an employee was leaving because she finally found a sugar daddy. I heard him tell that to at least seven people. He talked to everyone every session but not conversions, sarcastic comments thinking he was funny. I'm in a physical therapy facility and very rarely used equipment. I was using a door frame. The few items I used, I bought on Amazon and just do my therapy at home. Sean & Jake were great and the only two who can do the dry needling and real therapy including stretching people's muscles. I was very disappointed with this place. Someone had the 1# weight that the therapist wanted me to use and he tried to get me to use a soup can as a weight. I told him no, that was ridiculous. So I was standing in their pretend kitchen doing exercises of placing my fist on the counter and then raising my fist to the bottom shelf of the cabinet 30 times because they are so full with patients. I can stay home and use my own cabinet/counter for therapy. This same therapist decided to put me on a stationery bike. I told him I'm here for shoulder/neck issues, how is this helping that? He said it helps... no explanation. I think he was looking at the previous reason for my therapy 2 yrs prior. No other therapist had me on a bike. I need a double knee replacment and made that clear to him and he said it would be fine. I couldn't pedal for this reason and he told me just push the pedal back and forth but don't do the full rotation. Told him it hurts still and he said I'll be okay, I have to work those muscles. FOR MY NECK/ SHOULDER ISSUE????? The next 4 days I was in pain and the first day could barely walk. They overbook to at least four or five patients per therapist. 24 parking spaces, 5 employees, do the math...I had to wait for a parking space twice. Covid does still exist and I'm still high risk (I almost died of covid in 2020) so I wasn't happy with that. I canceled my last three appointments when I showed up and AGAIN my appointment with Jake was rescheduled with someone else. I told the front desk cancel all my remaining appointments. I haven't followed up to see if they charged my insurance company yet. Do yourself a favor and go where a therapist works with you not several patients in that hour. I learned my lesson and I'm going to a real physical therapy facility where they focus on the patient not overbooking for the money. Also, when I scheduled my appointments some guy at the call center got smart with me. I told him I want to make sure EVERYTHING is covered because last time I went to ATI, I was quoted a price per session of $5 and AFTER 10 sessions, they billed me additional charges. I don't want that to happen again. I told him I met my out of pocket deductible and I shouldn't be charged anything. He told me to call my insurance and ask them. I said I don't have to, these are the facts and I want to verify and he said my insurance will determine that. I said AGAIN I wanted to verify with ATI and he said the insurance will determine it. NO RESPONSE GIVEN. He was a jerk. Their billing lied the first time so I wouldn't trust them. Verify your insurance but they might bill you later like they did to me. ATI, I don't work for you so I'm not going to clean the equipment when I'm done. I pay my deductible and insurance pays your facility. You overbook with enough people to pay someone to clean the equipment when a PATIENT is done.
