Couldn't figure out how to update my last two reviews so here goes... I really want to support local businesses, but unfortunately they do not have many of my cats favorite foods. But they have one or two so I go in there when I can to support them. Today I went in and there was a woman with two large dogs, getting one of them measured for a sweater. They were blocking the aisle right in front of the cash register and so I waited a few minutes and debated whether to just leave a few cans of cat food there. The cashier saw me and said oh would you like to check out and I said sure, but the dogs and the woman didn't move. These dogs were really rambunctious and I didn't want them jumping on me as I was recovering from eye surgery, as they could see because I was wearing a pair of dark glasses and an N 95 mask. She finally asked "oh would you like them to move" and I said yes please. When I got to the counter, she said "you know this is a pet store pets are allowed." At that point, another woman with two dogs came in who were also rambunctious and I just gave up and left. read more

My dog adores this store because she loves Baby who is typically snoozing away, and she loves getting her treats. I really appreciate what the owner Rikke has done with the store since she took it over years ago-it is beautiful and she really cares about supporting other small companies/brands. They have a variety of treats, dog food, animal beds, toys, pet apparel, even dog donuts! Sometimes they will have adoptable kittens so that is always a way to brighten your day-who doesn't love kittens and adopting animals?! Yay for Cole valley pets! read more

Lupe is an incredible groomer! She does a wonderful job with my Maltipoo and always gives me great tips for her maintaining her coat. We always go over what I want and she gets it just right. Lupe is the only groomer I trust with my large & shy dog. Lupe also takes wonderful care of my cats skin and nails. Truly the best groomer in SF. While waiting for our brunch table to be ready (we had an hour to kill) we walked around and found CVP. I had my dog with me so I let him pick out a treat. We walked around the store so that he knew all of his options and he decided on a filled hoof. I also got him a "donut" to enjoy while we ate brunch. Truman gave both treats two paws up and he said he would definitely shop here again. A few notes: +friendly staff +clean store +water dish outside There are no cons- this place is great. read more

CVP is an excellent spot to pick up most of your dog, cat, (and other animal friends) needs. My partner and I have come here for a variety of cat stuff and always come away with just the right products. They have a quality range of food and treats, both wet and dry. Additionally, they had really cute collars and some of the most liked cat toys (think cat dancer!) Like any pet store, they tend to be heaviest on dog products but the balance doesn't seem as unfairly tipped in dogs favor as some stores. I will day they don't have much of a cat tree selection but that's to be expected in a smaller store. Definitely recommend for anyone in the area who has a friend at home who needs some goods. read more

I started taking my dog here to get groomed after finding a larger groomer was overwhelming and am so happy I did! My dog can be very anxious when getting a bath, and Lupe does such an amazing job of grooming him in an environment that is much more personal. I really wanted this to be a good review and I had high hopes for this groomer, but my experience was kind of awful. I dropped off my 8 month old doodle puppy today for her first grooming with Lupe and Lupe returned her to me with a 1.5" gash along the edge of one ear. I was told "there had been a lot of blood" and they had to use quick stop powder to stop the bleeding. Accidents happen but my doodle is a puppy and has only had one other grooming before this (not with Lupe), so when I dropped her off, I asked if Lupe could PLEASE be extra careful so it would be a good experience. I didn't expect this to happen. (In 10 years of taking dogs to groomers, this had never happened at any groomer before.) When I went to pick up my dog, I was told "I needed to speak to the groomer" which was the first time I'd heard about the accident. I was disappointed that this happened and called my vet (while still at Cole Valley Pets) to see if I could take my puppy there to get her ear looked at, and while I was on hold with the vet, the groomer asked "Why are you still here?" and honestly got kind of nasty with me, even though my dog had this big cut on her ear. CVP didn't ask me to pay for the grooming but now I'm heading to the vet to make sure they didn't permanently damage my dog's ear, since it kind of looks like there's a chunk missing from the edge. read more

My husband and I just moved to San Francisco and we needed to find a groomer for our doodle. The groomer did such a fantastic job! One of the best cuts we have seen our dog get in the past 3 years. I also requested his ears get plucked and most of the time it's subpar work but when we picked him up his ears were completely cleaned! We would 100% recommend Cole valley pets! read more

I do not give out negative reviews carelessly, especially since the pandemic. Like many people, I try to support small local businesses when I can. Sadly cole valley pet store won't be one of them anymore, because of the horrible experience I had with the dog groomer. She was extremely rude and unprofessional, which caused a great deal of anxiety to my dog. I also cried once I got home. We shopped there many times - from my puppy's tag, treats, food to numerous beautifully designed toys; and had positive experience there with other staff members. But in the end, I'm glad that my puppy won't have to spend one more minute with that dog groomer. read more

Lupe is a phenomenal groomer!! I loved the store before she arrived and, if it's possible, love it even more now! Her services are a li bit more expensive than other places but... you get so much more for your money!! She grooms one dog at a time in a private room at the back of the store, so it's a peaceful, quiet spot. She does an excellent job every time and works with you to figure out the best schedule in tune with your dog's needs. Best of all, my dog loves her and loves the store, which is a first!!! Strangers are always complimenting my dog's haircuts so I tell them about Lupe and Cole Valley Pets. read more

Woohoo!!! Under new ownership (thank goodness) and completely updated! We have lived in the neighborhood for quite some time and always wanted to like the old store, but it was cramped, selection wasn't great and staff wasn't the most friendly. Fast forward to today! Wow, what a change and I cannot say how excited we are to shop here! The interior is beautiful and spacious, the toys are super fun and not your average bright color squeaky toy, much more high quality and super cute. We picked up some treats and toys and are looking forward to more visits in the future. Baby, the Great Dane employee, is so so sweet and beautiful. She was sweet with my energetic puppy and l am looking forward to them being friends. The owner is helpful with finding new food options and truly has done a great job creating a pleasant shopping experience. Check them out and prepare to be impressed. read more

Lupe is the absolute best. She does an amazing job with our mini labradoodle, Bowie. The bath is an absolute life saver and her grooming is fantastic. The price is really reasonable compared to some other shops in the city that we have tried and the grooming is WAY better, especially for doodles. Pretty disappointed in this small local pet store's inhumane decision to keep two adult cats in a small cage in their window all day. Apparently they are let out at night for pest control. Seems like a sad life for a pet. I've gone here for several years now and they've been convenient (if not exactly consistent when it comes to ordering food), but I'll have to take my business elsewhere until this situation is rectified. read more

$6.50 for cat litter that is $3.50 at the big grocery store and $4.00 everywhere else. Sure it's a neighborhood store but that percentage of markup is so flagrant it's disgusting. If money flows like water from your wallet and you like to needlessly overpay, this place is great! read more

I keep trying to give this place a chance. I loved CVP under the previous owner. The staff were amazing and always so generous with information. The new owner let all the old staff go with no notice before the new opening and now I have come by multiple times when they are supposed to be open for business and they are closed. No note, no info about special circumstances. As a neighborhood pet store, I expect neighborly consideration. I don't get that here. I want to like this place again, especially because I care about local owners and businesses, but something isn't adding up for me with this place. I'm so disappointed. read more
