Super clean cabins well insulated, great A/C and heat.Free firewood. Filtered tap water, and water pressure is fantastic. Brand new sheets, tons of pillows, each cabin is decorated in country style. 3 miles from Main Street and 1 mile tucked into the back woods sits 250 acres of quiet, starlight and scenic tranquility. Dave Somers has refurbished all cabins and cabin 4 was our place for 7 delightful days. (4 over looks a beautiful pond and faces the sunrise). Doesn't look like much as you drive down a gravel road. But the cabins are nice, clean, and well maintained. The owners are very welcoming! Each cabin has 2 twin beds, kitchenette, shower and a rustic country feel. They have a few "community" dogs that you can't help but love. You are close to everything for canoeing, food, and fun. A place to come back and relax by a fire or sit on the front porch. read more

Coldwater Ranch is right at the trail heads to get into the Pioneer Forest, Angeline CA and the Missouri Scenic Riverways National Park. Over 164,000 acres to ride. Coldwater Ranch has large well built stalls for your horse and campsites or cabins for your comfort. Kathy is a fantastic cook if you want meals and will cater to your dietary needs. Very family oriented and friendly. Along the trails you can see caves, canyons, great views, three wild horse herds and two rivers to cross as many times as you wish. I have been going here for over 10 years and it is my favorite place to ride in Missouri and very high on my list of trails across America. read more

I was so disappointed when we pulled up. The landscaping was all grown up in weeds. The office looked like it was about to fall down. All the reviews on line were good so that's why we picked it. We were told that we were in cabin 3 and the key was in the door. We got out of the car and we were completely engulfed with gnats. I understand this is a ranch but you can spray or spread around that would control this.The cabin on the inside was nice and clean. I had to knock down cobwebs to get in the door. The picnic tables were covered green moss . The porch looked like it had not been swept or cleaned. The advertisement said cabins had a lake access all we could see were weeds. We decided not to stay. When asked why I tried to explain why and the workers said this is ranch your gonna have bugs. They asked why we were disappointed i tried to explain and they kept cutting me off and told me I was rude. I grew up in the country I know about bugs . I also know there are ways to control them. Was there with a large group of friends. We got in late (11pm) on a Friday night after driving for 5 hrs. Kathy had called several times around 8 pm saying the debit card used for reservations had been declined. We went to an ATM and it worked just fine. We told her that we would give her cash in the am but she insisted to wait up for the money. We got there and she tried to charge 50.00 above what the amount should have been. When brought to her attention she refigured and came up with the correct amount. We rented 2 cabins and had a camper. After getting unloaded and setting camper up it wast after midnight. We had two more friends driving separate that would arrive later. We decided to sit by the camper where another camper had a fire going. We were not unruly or loud. Just chatting by the fire. Our friends arrived approximately 1am. We were flashing a flashlight at them so they knew where to turn in. They got out of the car and before we knew it Kathy was down there screaming at us to be quiet or she would kick us out. She blew a whistle like a PE teacher would use. She said we woke her up and we needed to settle down. In order to settle down we would have had to fall asleep because we were exhausted. We went to bed approximately 1:30am. We had a river trip scheduled for 8 am next day. We got up and got around at 6am. One of the cabins door was locking automatically so the key got locked in. When we went to Kathy for a spare key she once again threatened to kick us out. She said we kept her up all night and she didn't get any sleep. Huh?? We went to bed immediately after she came down. We went on our float trip and returned approximately 7pm. When arriving we were met by Kathy's husband. He was once again threatening to kick us out. We had yet to do anything even remotely deserving of being kicked out. My husband is a police officer and chief of police in our town. We are all educated professional people. We do like to have fun but trust me we don't get wild and out of control. I have never been threatened or kicked out of ANYWHERE!!!! This woman is truly an unhappy human being. Save yourself the time and money and go somewhere else. The river is worth the trip. We had a blast on our float trip but DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!!!!! The only reason I gave one star is because zero is not an option. read more

"They are Blood Hungry" Pending review Rented us a cabin, was upfront with the owner about the number of people that they would be accomodating. We got there and the jacuzzi tub was not operable, which they did not take off any of our expensive bill. She just said that it stays rented, and they haven't been able to get in there to fix it. Okay. Well, there is a flat carpet up to the kitchen stove. We had some grease spatter on it from breakfast bacon, and it burned some small spots. We left the cabin in otherwise great condition, and the owner was not available to speak when we left. Two days later, she charged us an ADDITIONAL $200 for the damage. Was extremely hateful when I returned her call. We stay at very nice resorts all over the county, and nothing like this has ever happened to us like this. She HUNG UP on me after I told her I would dispute the charge...she took no responsibility for the carpet in the kitchen (who does that?) Horrible experience!!! Stayed July 2014 read more

I had a great time! The only reason I'm not giving 5-stars is because we didn't take our horses yet. Being from Leitchfield, KY, my wife and I decided to make a "recon" trip before we loaded up the horses and hauled them 330 miles to Eminence, Missouri. We will definitely be going back when the weather gets cooler...we don't ride much in the Summer. We usually ride Mammoth Cave and Land-Between-The-Lakes in Kentucky, but we had run into so many folks that recommended Cold Water Ranch in Missouri...so we decided to check it out! It's a great place! Kathy makes you feel right at home and the cabins are much more than we are use to! They are priced similar to other places we visit, but you receive a lot more for your dollar at Cold Water Ranch....small kitchen w/microwave, stove, frig, sink; heat/air unit; toilet, sink, shower, and small 2-person Jacuzzi tub for relaxing at the end of the day. For the horses, Kathy has plenty of large stalls (12x12) and their are plenty of riding trails. Eminence is just up the road a little bit and horse feed, hay, and stall shavings are very reasonable. I can't wait for the weather to get cooler so we can return and ride the horses! As for other reviews on this site, I have NEVER rode on any horse trail that included an "on-site" Vet! Maybe you should stick to the horse shows and arenas...and leave the great outdoors to those of us who know how to take care of ourselves and our horses! Derek W. Leitchfield, KY read more

The cabins are decent at this place, but the owners make it not even worth the stay. One of the owners Kathy was rude from the get go, she made us pay the final balance in cash claiming our credit card didn't work (which it did, we checked), she tried to overcharge us $50 and threatened to kick us out claiming we were a disturbance the whole time we were there. Which, we were there to have fun but we were not overly loud at all! Also her husband Dave came down to our cabin and threatened us as well! It was just overall a bad experience, there was no hospitality at all! Save yourself the headache and stay somewhere where they appreciate your business! read more

This has been my 3rd visit to Coldwater Ranch in the past 7 years and once again I was not disappointed. Kathy and David are very accomodating. I have stayed in the cabins previously (which are wonderful and very clean) and this time I stayed in my horse trailer. Showers are clean. The stalls are a great size compared to others in the area. One could stay several weeks and not ride all the trails in the area. We chose the meal option this time and were very happy with the food and service. I would recommend having all 4 feet shod as I just did my Arab's fronts and although he did not struggle, I think it would have been easier. Take a day and go to the river. We visited Coldwater Thursday through Sunday last weekend and couldn't be happier with our accommodations! Kathy was very hospitable from the get go. Stalls are the size of 2 stalls in the barn we were at (behind Office) didn't check out the others, and were in great condition. You have the option of Kathy cooking for you, would recommend at least one night of that the food was more than we could handle and it was delicious!! A great option to not have to cook and clean up after a long day of riding. If you are unfamiliar with the trails I would highly recommend having Sandy (trail guide) accompany you she knows all the best trails and river crossings! We have 2 horses but wanted to bring our son along on the trip so we rented one of theirs for the day and the horse was great, very safe and mannerly a great option for friends or family who would like to come along but don't have a horse. We didn't stay in the cabins we stayed in our trailer but I did get a chance to see the cabins they were great as well fully equipped and VERY clean! As far as the other reviews I am not sure if possibly they were talking about the extra charges that Kathy charges if you put on your credit card, there is a sign in the office that states that there is a fee to put on your credit card, I own a small business and I do the same thing these are charges that the credit card company charges me and they can be very expensive, I seen the sign and opted to write a check instead of using my charge card wasn't a big deal to me :-) read more

I have my own reservations about Coldwater Ranch. I have been told about folks getting injuries and or their horses being injury and or died at this location. No real on site vet, no on site medical assistance. So you are on your own and you should be aware of these facts. No real security staff to watch over your horse trailers or campers and I was told things will just walk off or vanish completely. upon entry everyone must sign a wavier to relieve all liability for them. So basically you are on your own. You better come fully prepared for anything to happen. I was recently informed that a inexperienced rider rode a horse off into deep water, with a heavy saddle, back pack and a inexperienced rider on the horse's back that horse poor drown because no body cut its rigging loose and allowed it to swim out. The rider was ok and saved by other riders. What a real shame that the poor horse died because of the lack of assistance to save it. read more
