It's not easy to find. Their address is on Southbank Street, but it can be easy to miss it as it is behind Robek's. We were here on a Sunday around 5 p.m. The first thing I noticed was that they didn't have very many items left. The young man who was behind the counter was friendly and patient. I decided to order two lemon cupcakes and two birthday cupcakes. There were only two birthday cupcakes left, so I guess I timed it right. Four cupcakes ended up costing $18, which seems to be on the expensive side. As for the cupcakes, the lemon ones were for my husband. He thought the lemon flavoring could have been more prominent. We also noticed that the cupcakes were on the oily side. On the plus side, the cake part was very light in texture. This place is basically a take out set up, as it is small. We're not sure if we would return. If we did return, it would be for a meal in the area.

I emailed Chantel's two days after the in-person meeting informing them that my credit card had not been charged and asked when it would be. I NEVER RECEIVED A RESPONSE. It was not until the morning of my wedding did I receive a PayPal invoice, in which was paid within 3 hours of receipt. Maybe a planner would have been helpful in completing additional follow-ups with the business WHICH IS CLEARLY REQUIRED, so that I didn't have to be the one to realize the cake was missing. However, a business should establish some sort of organization that would allow them not to forget an order IN THE FIRST PLACE. We tried ordering drinks through the QR code and they never came out, even after waiting around 30 minutes. Thankfully, Emily saved the day and got everything sorted out for us.

They have a very varied menu and they also have a large gluten-free menu. We both had the lobster bisque as a starter and then we both ordered the fish tacos. The soup was filled with lots of lobster meat and was delicious. The fish tacos were made with cod and the waiter mentioned that the slaw had some habanero chile in it. I asked if it was spicy and he said it might have a slight kick, but was not spicy. He was absolutely correct and in fact, if he hadn't mentioned the habanero I would not have picked up on it at all. It was really good. If you order bread, (and you have choices on type), you are charged I think a dollar per order, but that is donated to help people who are food challenged. We were full from our dinner, but we could not pass up an order of key lime pie for dessert, which we shared. It was a hard choice because they had a special dessert which was chocolate peanut-butter pie. I wish we could have had both. Their other desserts also sounded great. By the way, a portion of their revenues from desserts are also donated to help those who need food assistance. I was very impressed that they do that. I want to mention that the wait staff was also great. Friendly, attentive, but not over-bearing. I can't say enough about Sweetwster Tavern. If I find myself in this area again, I will definitely be back.

As a result of that review, I spoke with Christina, who manages the shop. She was genuinely sincere, apologized for the issues, and assured me that things were going to change. Unfortunately, that has not been my experience. On Friday, July 10, at approximately 9:30 a.m., I visited the shop again. I was the fifth person in line, looking at my phone, when I heard the first customer being told they had no coffee. He immediately walked out. The next two customers ordered iced tea. The fourth customer, who was directly in front of me, ordered two cups of coffee. I clearly heard the employee tell him there was no coffee available and that he would have to wait 5 to 10 minutes. Although he was obviously frustrated, he agreed to wait and took a seat. When it was my turn, I asked the cashier if I had heard correctly that there was currently no coffee. She confirmed they were about to brew a fresh pot. I pointed out that five customers had already been in line and that this was a coffee shop with no coffee available. After already turning away one customer and asking another to wait, only then were they starting a new pot? The cashier responded with an attitude, saying, "You'll just have to wait 5 to 10 minutes." This is exactly what I discussed with Christina months ago. I simply do not understand how a coffee shop can repeatedly run out of coffee. At a minimum, there should always be another pot brewing or ready so customers are not left waiting 5 to 10 minutes after placing an order. That is poor planning and poor customer service. It is clear that nothing has changed since my conversation with Christina. I asked if either Christina or Dan, the other manager, was available, and I was told there were no managers on duty. At that point, I walked out. I cannot recommend spending your time or money at a coffee shop that repeatedly fails to have coffee available. It would be like going to a grocery store with no groceries. If a business specializes in coffee, customers should reasonably expect coffee to be available.

I sincerely hope that what I can only assume is a $100 cake was worth the lifetime value of the business they are losing from our family of four, our friends and family. I also hope they consider that reviews matter, and people pay attention to how businesses treat people. Great food should be matched with great hospitality. Place is badly managed and there is hardly ever a clean table. Staff is also usually a mix of badly trained individuals that commit more food safety violations than I care to count. Since when are long fake and painted fingernails allowed in food service? How about tying that long hair back so it does not end up in my ice cream?
